I think I'm going to go and teach english in Korea, then maybe Japan when I've got enough money. I've written a cover letter but it's kind of gaytarded. How do you think I could improve this?

Really though, I was thinking about going in for this sort of thing for a while, myself.

I believe an indication toward the time you'd like to work for would be good - though, honestly, I've never secured a job by admitting I didn't expect to work it for very long.

Also in Asia what time do you take tea? Do you go by GMT or local?

Really though:
A) I believe a statement of the sum of time you intend to hold the position would be appropriate, and at least declaring yourself fairly long-term may help secure a position because nobody likes a high turnover of employment.
B) if you're not the sort to take tea, then damn, at least I didn't outright assume you had awful teeth, a candy addiction, or no knives in your house

I have a friend who started teaching English in Korea, hated it and transitioned incredibly easily into the field of voiceover work, which is apparently a totally decent and livable career, if you don't stagnate and get sick of it in a couple years (which she did).

Also I realised that I've somehow made it this far in life without knowing why we have paragraphs besides to make the page look nice. Edwardian style guides on grammar! Fully recommended!

I got about three phone calls from Korean people this morning! I wish there were this many jobs for animators!

It's hard to know which ones are legit, though. I think some of them might be planning behead me when I get over there and make bread from my bones! I might be confusing Koreans with giants here.

and then push them over another kid crouched behind them. Only works if they're standing on a pavement.

I am not really looking forward to it and am in fact pooing my pants, it's really scary

Just be sure to keep in touch with them. I spent a year physically away from everyone I knew and can recommend some things to help stave off loneliness, and relatively few of them actually involve going out and meeting new people!

Also a Korean restaurant just opened in Iowa City, I think they made a vacancy for you in the country dur hur hurr

Spend no part of the day with nothing to do. Loneliness typically comes through boredom or ennui. Combine tasks, like drawing and movies, or reading and cooking, do everything you can to keep yourself occupied. Go out for jogs frequently, establish an exercise routine that you can easily repeat. Also, lots of video games. I might recommend long-term sorts of games, like RPGs, strategy games, or Age of Conan. Wink

Chances are you'll get a lot of reading done.

That's if you don't want to meet people local to your area. I'm pretty sure there's one or more American military base(s) in Korea so, chances are you'll come upon one or more English-speakers by varying the places you shop for food or clothing, or generally exploring the region.

But more importantly, be sure to call! You'll be half a day or so away so the best times for you to phone will be in the morning or evening, when it's easiest to synch active times so you don't wake anyone you don't want to make cranky. Email's too impersonal, phone really helps.

I don't know how useful or relevant this'll be, since I actively sought to be away from everyone for that time and have a long and detailed history of moving from place to place.

Actually I only ever feel lonely when I feel like there are tons of other people out there having a good time without me, which I hear is not the case in Korea. Also I find it pretty difficult to get bored since I draw a lot. And it looks like quite a fun place, where I'm going. There is a theme park on the island called Love Land, which looks pretty great.

As far as games are concerned, I think Mother 3 will be coming out in english at some point while I'm over there! Score!

I'm covered in mozzie bites from camping at the beach, and also when I try to phone the bank I have about 7 8-year-old girls buzzing around me saying 'TEACHER! I HELP! I FIND PHONE NUMBER! I PRESS BUTTON! WHAT IS MY NAME??' and sticking their fingers in my ears to get the sand out but besides that, everything is all good!
