Yes, I'd agree.

I've got Oldboy and Gozu coming up soon in my netflix queue, too. I've heard such good things about them!

Also, watch Flash Gordon. They finally re-released it on DVD, so finding ti is a bit easier, and I still love that movie.

As for Sunshine, I really like that movie a lot, but I think big and loud are very important to it. I went to a local sci-fi movie marathon this weekend, and they showed Sunshine at 7:00 in the morning (the marathon started at 8:00 the night before and went for the whole night and well into the night after). What was odd is that during all the other movies, people were yelling and shouting things, and this happened during the first half or so of Sunshine. By the end though, the place was dead silent, and a lot more people were watching it than had been at the beginning. It really is full of just amazing things to see really huge. The sense of scale in that movie gets to me in an odd way. I do wish they would have released something with the soundtrack on it though.

Yeah, some of it was interesting.

I fast forwarded many times.

Hacking Democracy was just ok.

Not nearly enough discussion of how the whole vote counting/discarding system works.

As in legal definitions/etc.

Haven't finished Reds yet. Just too damn long. Like more than Gandhi long Sad

Enron : The Smartest Guys in the Room

Oh, yes. I watched both in last few months. Good stuff.

I have 470+ films in my netflix queue.

3+ years worth.

actually i would call that move comic book:the movie than videogame the movie. The violence was far more stylized (I guess would be the term) than I normally associate with games. In game terms, there were way too many unique death animations for it to have been an actual game. It did seem a lot like a hyperviolent comic though, which was just awesome with me.

I am breaking radio silence on The Gamer's Quarter to state that Daphaknee you are wrong on this very important and relevant issue: the writer/director of Shoot 'Em Up also WROTE DOUBLE DRAGON: THE MOVIE.

Well, no, I think it is an important distinction. Shoot 'Em Up seems more about setting up particular shots and images, as opposed to feeling like someone is playing a videogame. Crank is a videogame, SEU is a comic.

I think you guys are both wrong. Shoot 'Em Up is "Action Movie: The Movie" more than anything else.

Also I posted about this movie like 2 pages ago and nobody saw it Sad

Well yes, in the end, it really is that. And it works really well as that. I was mostly jsut saying if the influence of media outside of movies themselves could be seen in the movie, it is that of the comic more than the game, but yeah.

Also, sorry i missed it when you brought it up before. I saw it in the theaters and was wowed by it, and then watched it in Kentucky around new years with a bunch of people and yeah, it was still awesome.

Well, the movie is listed as being in post production, so I am doubting that this will affect that too much. But man, Ledger seemed like a decent enough actor, so that is unfortunate.

He was sensational in Brokeback Mountain. Cinema will miss a very major young talent.

Actually, I'll always remember him for how fucking bad his accent is in Brokeback. But yeah, he was decent. I liked him in movies that were otherwise bad, though I don't think he had a hell of a lot of range.

One of my friends called me as soon as she found out. Another cried.

They are unbelievably boring and shit. Completely uninspired camerawork too.

I just wish the Wachowskis would fuck off and die. They've never done anything of merit and the first Matrix barely counts.

That said, the Animatrix had some cool shorts.

daphaknee, you should watch Lies (Gojitmal) if you haven't already. It's Korean and also like this in the end, but before that it's all about S&M.

Also I think you'd appreciate Joon-Ho Bong's other movies, Memories of Murder and Barking Dogs Never Bite.

3-Iron wasn't bad, but I really enjoyed [from the land of Hong Kong, which I'm mixing in with Korea because my imdb verification was apparently ignored by my eyes and hands] 2046. I thought the Host fell apart as it continued. The beginning was awesome, but the end was so blah.

this movie is from Hong Kong. no biggie, though!

Man, Memories of Murder kicks ass. The Vengeance trilogy is an obvious choice too I guess.
Anybody seen A Bittersweet Life? I'd...almost say that's my favorite Korean movie.

oh btw Daph what you say is true but you must see Save The Green Planet if you have not it barely transforms this kind of ending into something else which is quite possibly hilarious

Finally finished Reds.

Fucking boring as hell.

I guess they had all these props and shit left from Chinatown and decided what the hell.

Jack Nicholsen, Warren Beatty, Diane Keaton.

Still boring.

I did like the part where Keaton's character bitches out Beatty's character:

"Your going to sneak into Russia so you can convince the COMINTERN that your 14 intellectual friends in the basement are the REAL American Socialist Party?"

Something to that effect.

The Island was ok.

Too actiony, but I did like the bait and switch with the THX 1138 becoming a spoiler.

Perhaps a bit of a Matrix reference as in "the mind is needed for the body to live."

Coulda been way better.

But still I think it was damn good.

A baroque miniseries would have been much much better.

i saw stardust a couple days ago and it might be my new favourite movie ever. for serious. watch it right away if you haven't already.

I enjoyed all the Aquafina product placement shots. 'Okay, two seconds on heerrrrr aaanndd THERE! Insert another bottle there! Perfect.'

I had to watch Coach Carter on a plane once, after a friend left me alone by jumping on the last available seat on the previous flight. That was fun.

ok, so more movies now:

Power Trip:

Wierd propaganda.

Redoing Tbilisi electricity and charging for it. Okey doke.

I'm not sure exactly wtf the meaning/message is.

Rambo: First Blood.

A drama, not in modern terms an action/adventure.

Several injuries, one death.

The death is accidental and happens to a homocidal antagonist who threatens to murder a civilian if said civilian won't help in an attempt to murder an unarmed fugitive who is fleeing from false arrest.

The "colonel" crap/green beret mythology part is not necessary..

Watership Down.

boo-hoo, poor animals.

The visionary rabbit reminded me of a 17 yr old cat my relatives had to terminate a few months ago.

Cat's mind was intact, but the body failed.

I was in the room for the lethal injection. I was NOT in the room for catheterization/sedation.

I'm still pissed about "ze sekrit catheterization", because I think it was done "off-camera" as training for the trainee, who gloated with fascination over the proceedings.

Anyway the death of "Fiver" really reminded me of Malcolm's End.
(The cat's name.)

I rewound a few times for that last bit, then put the DVD back in the envelope for remailing.

The Conversation:

Gene Hackman as paranoid surrounded by fellow surveillance experts.

ok film.

Enron: the smartest guys in the room.

Yeah, people have to have guns.

It's not like the National Guard is going to string these fuckers up.
