So I tried the Gravy chip! I'm sure most of you have tried BBQ flavoured chips at one point. Well! The gravy chip tastes like a less sweet, more savoury version of that, with a hint of that zing Burger Rings have. Does it taste like gravy? Not at all, sadly. None that I've tried, anyway (apparently it's based on a strong beef flavour). But, I do enjoy the taste, much more so than BBQ flavour... i.e, I can actually stand to eat these chips, which is not the case with BBQ.

So yes, hardly the revelation I was hoping for, but a satisfying taste. I give it 2.5 stars out of 4, on the Ebert scale.

I was going to post some reaction shots but I'm worried Dess might accidently read this thread.

EDIT: All Monsters had this to say about the Gravy chip:

Quote:
spot on about the gravy chips too. I bought a pack on the weekend, and my girl described the flavor as a mixture between barbecue and chicken, then a slight gravy-ish aftertaste which I think was pretty damn accurate. Hamish's facial expression on the front of the packet is pretty good though.

This is also a pretty accurate description of the flavour, though I wouldn't describe the aftertaste as gravy-ish... again, not like any I've tried.

EDIT 2: All Monsters and I later agreed to label the aftertaste as a "vague beefyness".

Nope, we call them chips! My did insists on calling them crisps, as does his dad. YOU AIN'T IN SCOTLAND ANYMORE, OLD MEN.

Also, because I don't want to break the illusion that I look exactly like my SB avatar. I'm sure other people would be dissapointed with the truth, too! I guess I could post those pictures of me dressed up in drag, that might make up for it.

But what would make up for that?

Questions:

1.) Why did your parents get sent from Scotland to Australia, did they commit a crime

2.) As a second generation immigrant, how do you defend your views that 'immigrants are why [your] country is going to the dogs'

Each question is worth a maximum of 50 points.

1). Only one parent came from Scotland, and it's England who did the whole prison colony thing, which went out of style quite sometime ago (I find it interesting that your tiny country was SO full of criminals that you required an entire continent to dump them on). Furthermore, the state I live in is the only one that wasn't colonised as a prison colony, so stick that up yer ass and smoke it.

2). Oh, that's only talking about immigrant immigrants. You know, like indian people and stuff! Duh!

Ha ha, high five Cycle! What a country of jerks, am I right?

I wouldn't be disappointed with a photo of you. Right now, I imagine you look like a lump of coal (but with a lovely personality Very Happy) so it's all up from here!

My parents always said "chips", my grandparents were the ones who still used 'crisps'. Makes me think of my nanna.

Yes but seriously, I don't recall those statements about immigrants being my views! Immigrants are what make this country great! We're multi-cutural! Woo!

I do wish they'd stop hiring indians for call centres though, I can't understand them and it's quite frustrating!

Immigrants fucking rock. Any country that hates immigrants is retarded, hypocritcal and in denial of its own heritage*. THERE I SAID IT

I live in Western Australia. 27% of our population were born overseas. 27%! How awesome is that. That's higher than the national average (22%). AWESOME

FACTS

*Unless you live in the cradle of life or some shit and have never made contact with the outside world, that's cool too

ok peoples of the non-american earth, explain this to me:

now, you guys call french fries either chips or crisps. crisps sort of make sense (properly made they're crispy) but chips always confused me. what do you call potato chips?

I don't think people call french fries crisps anywhere? We call them chips, too. We also call potato chips chips. Do you guys have Fish & Chips shops over there, or are they called Fish & French Fries shops?

Cycle is correct.

(Relatively) thick fried cut chucks of potato = fries in America, chips in Britain, chips in Australia.

Thin, roughly spherical fried slices of potato = chips in America, crisps in Britain, chips in Australia to the younger generations, crisps in Australia to the older generation.

Fish and Chip shops are still Fish and Chip shops, since it's a non-American food, so it retains the original name even though it doesn't make sense in context and I'm sure a lot of people go into these places for the first time and say "oh, fries". Most bar/pub-type places that serve food have them on the menu as well, as the upscale boozer scene is heavily Anglocentric.

This whole Freedom Fries thing comes from the beginning of the iraq war when americans were being encouraged to boycott everything french! I saved this column from that very time, which was published in a Murdoch-owned newspaper:

Quote:
February 18, 2003 --
France only leads world in arrogance. By Cindy Adams

FRIG the frogs. Screw-ay les Francais. Up the French. France, a countrylet forever famous for immortal boons to civilization like shoemaker Christian Leboutin, dressmaker Christian LaCroix, stylemaker Christian Dior, is dissing the United States? Mes enfants, vous can take votre French toast and shove it up your cafe au lait.'

I realize I'm ranting. I don't mean to knock an entire people. In any case, I'm not important. Nothing I say will change events. However, even small persons like myself know what loyalty means. It means if someone saves your life, you do for them forever.

It's similar to the Mafia. You don't stand up for them, they'll sure as hell see that you lay down.'

'You get a French manicure, we'll give you the finger. Your ex-pat countrymen here will starve because we won't invite them to dinner, go to their restaurants or eat their escargots. French onion soup, French fries, French dressing, French pastry. It'll be ta-ta to foie gras. We'll do chopped liver from the Stage Deli. When it comes to champagne, we'll play Pop Goes the Weasel. In place of French wine, we'll order California. Think we should order Evian? You Les Miserables are all wet. You might've stuck it to Marie Antoinette but not Uncle Sam. Nothing Made in France will get our attention except a couple of hookers in heat.'

Wagnalls and his pal Funk say weasels are cunning sneaking rodent imbibing things. I say they should say, au revoir to le Yankee dollar!'

It's mind-blowing that they're allowed to say this stuff. Also you should take down the Statue of Liberty while you're at it!

Quote:

why?

there's a frittes place on 2nd avenue btwn 8th and st marks that's pretty delicious. the garlic rosemary mayo is solid as all hell, but their "small" size is ridiculously large.

Yeah, that place is delicious!

I envision goth fries as being somehow blackened, so either burned or covered in marmite.

Weren't the fries in the pentagon cafes labeled freedom fries at the time?

yup; it got changed back (far more quietly) a few years later.

fuckholery abounds!

goth fries should be overcooked and too heavily salted to eat. they will stand as a testament to the pointlessness of trying to feed the body.

I thought the Goth Fries thing was because it was like a grease-vampire had drained the french fry down to a husk.

Or something tangentially related to that.

I just got a strange response from someone. I mentioned the raccoons outside my window, and how they're mostly cute yet sometimes make god-awful mating sounds.

And thus:

Quote:
Here's what you do: you gotta get a big-ass steak or other chunk of meat. Just something absolutely laden with animal tissue, the redder/gnarlier the better. Eat it, and then piss all over where they're marking their territory. Smells like a massive, terrifying predator to them. Sometimes the only thing nature respects is when you play her game and play it well. If you have neighbors, maybe use a watering can instead of direct application. If you don't eat meat, maybe hire hobo/get a friend whose aim you trust.

I read in Pranks! that some Dutch rioters would smear themselves with tiger shit from the zoo in order to scare off the police dogs.

Yeah I know it's pretty crap, but it's free! I actually recieved an e-mail about it, which made me laugh. Apparently I'm on the Nescafe mailing list! Perhaps we should talk about coffee next.

I've actually always wanted to go to Perth, I've heard it's a beautiful city. Maybe I can pay for the trip by previewing the game you're working on!

Totally! Although it's in Portugese, and being launched in Brazil. Perhaps you could cover the holy-shit-game-development-in-Perth angle? Who knows! I could put you in touch with people, if you wanted.

Take 5 is sort of the cross between a Twix and Chubby Hubby: The Candy Bar.

It's pretty good, though real chocolate would make it better.

That's not that weird. You can get beetroot on your subway sandwiches, too! It's the Australian way!

I can't stand beetroot myself, though.
