I think it was more to do with the fact that it can make your teeth grow crooked.

Our school also banned 'Spliffy Jackets', which were black denim jackets with white stitching and a big cartoon picture of a rastafarian on the back smoking a massive joint, usually with 'Spliffy' written underneath. They became really popular for a while before the school banned them, can't think why.

getting in fights at good behavior award assemblies in which you punch a math teacher in the face so hard that she gets a black eye rather quickly but she thinks you are a cool kid so she tells the principal that you didn't hit her because she knows that it would get you a ten-day suspension or expulsion so you only get a three-day.

yep, totally banned.

also, headphones.

Red Bull was banned in our school because the head thought it was a drug and would lead people to SMOKE POT!

Also, minor bullshit riot happened in primary school happened when a supervisor didn't like a massive game we'd gotten into were we formed two massive lines and rammed into each other. She said that "we weren't allowed to have fun" and then the kids started screaming and causing trouble, all save three of the entire school.

no, actually it was on accident. I was fighting this other kid, and the teacher, who was kinda a badass but also like a foot shorter than either of us, jumped in on that shit to break it up.

How did that happen?

Was it because Pokémon encourages slavery and animal cruelty?

Pokémon is only for people who haven't found real life cock fighting yet.

I totally dodged that franchise, I was already on my way out of high school by the time it really picked up in popularity.

Yeah, my younger brother started playing it on his GBC. I thought it was stupid at first, due to all the milking, but when I played it I realised it was one of the most ingenius games of all time.

I skipped the rest of the games since none seemed to really add anything, though I started the DS game since I had a hankering.

I'm kind of glad I missed the whole Pokémon boat, I don't think that I could be obsessive enough to abduct all of them. I could easily get some of them but I probably wouldn't need the rest.

I was into Tazos instead. You got a packet of Burger Rings or chicken Twisties with those, Pokémon is sorely lacking in that department.

No, it's because Pokemon Cards became such a damn huge phenomenon in my high school that they were eventually banned from the school premises. Some dumbass brought in a Charizard to show it off, and he got busted.

It wasn't even a Team Rocket Charizard, what a fool.

Sooo, getting back on Aussie Cuisine, I was talking to my good friend COSSIX (or Cussix, as the Americans call him), and apparently you folks don't have REEF N' BEEFS/SURF N' TURFS in America? Because it's one of the greatest meals you can ever eat. I am so serious, it's the most delicious thing. First, you get a fat piece of steak cooked just the way you like it. Then, they place several juicy prawns on top of the steak. Finally, they cover the stake and prawns with a delicious garlic sauce. It comes with a side of salad and chips, some of the chips under the stick so the sauce passes onto them as well as the steak juices. It's like an ORGY in my mouth!

PICTURE:

It looks EXACTLY like that. It's so delicious.

Just make sure you have a stick of gum because golly gee, does it ever give you bad breathe.

There's been Surf and Turf specials in America for pretty much ever. They don't take that particular form usually though.

I guess it's just the Reef N Beef then! I called them Surf N Turfs too, because there is one place that calls it that.

That American Surf N Turf doesn't look too nice!

I mean, apart from the lobster.

And steak.

Point is, a Reef and Beef is one of the most delicious things you'll ever eat.

I like everything about Reef and Beef except the prawns. Steak and chips in garlic sauce is delicious enough for me.

Fuck, I'm hungry.

FUCK I'm so glad this thread is back because if you look a couple pages ago we were talking about Rueben sandwiches, and I finally had one! It wasn't as great as America led me to believe, but it was pretty nice. I think it was just shitty quality of the ingredients that let it down, I could probably make a much nicer one at home (and probably will). Food, yeah!

Hello! I purchased one at Fast Eddy's. I'm not sure if they have them over east? They're like a sort of burger-bar thing, and they try quite hard to be American so I guess the Rueben was a natural choice for them.

I tried to find a Fast Eddy's website but they don't appear to have one, so:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fast_Eddy's

FAKE EDIT: Upon reading this article apparently they are confined to WA. There you go! Or not, as the case may be.

FAKE EDIT2: Their Executive Burger is fucking delicious, patty the size of my head swear to god.

Oh my, no. You can get a much better steak at any given restaurant than you can at Fast Eddy's. I don't know if there's a real, actual "steakhouse" around here, perhaps one of my eastern compatriots knows more.

you know, i've never actually had the steak at outback steakhouse. (a real steakhouse being a smith and wollensky or peter luger's, i.e. 40USD steaks aged for like six months and melting like butter in your mouth)

i have, however, gone there for saturday afternoon happy hour and gotten sorority girl shitfaced on the blended drinks (this watermellon thing they call a wallaby darned iirc) and eating some cheese fries. the buffalo wings (they call them kookaburra wings, again iirc) are ok. i had salad there a few times as well, but no steak.

Gravy sandwiches!

Or roll up a pita with refried beans, cheese, salsa, and spam.

Don't let teefs get in the way!

Aren't all Americans?

Australia is catching up and soon we will surpass our exploded waistline Yankee overlords. Then they'll never be as fat as us and they'll just have to give up, go off and find something else they can be good at instead, we won't stop them.

We'd never be able to outrun them anyway at that stage.

Yeah man, I think you gotta find a good place to get some really tasty corned beef. That is the key I think, though the quality of all the ingredients needs to meet a certain level for the good sandwich. But if you can find a really good one in Australia, let the people know, for sure.

I have never had the steak at outback either. Does anyone?

We posted about some of the crazy flavoured potato chips/crisps earlier in this thread (Ham & Musterd and Meat Pie & Tomato Sauce)... well another one just hit the stands!

GRAVY.

The guys on the packet are two boring but popular Australian comedians. The flavour was actually chosen via a vote... the other candidates were:

* Pork Dumpling
* Gravy
* Kebab (or Souvlaki)
* Beer
* Chocolate
* Fruit Salad

I think some of the other flavours would have been much more interesting, but on the other hand, gravy could actually work as a chip flavour (unlike the more interesting ones) so it's for the best that it ended up being the winner. I suppose.

I haven't actually tried the packet I bought yet, I'll post impressions when I do! Perhaps even some REACTION SHOTS.

Oh, and they're only available for TWO WEEKS. I better stock up. I wish they would bring the Meat Pie ones back Sad

And why no dim sim flavour?

Fuck me I didn't know this was out. Gravy? Gravy over kebabs? I'm confused too. Also who the fuck thought fruit salad chips would be a good idea.

New contest: think of an Australian comedian and the chip flavour they would make.

Mick Molloy: Farts and beer.

Hey, I just saw these things today! I tell you what too, I might have bought them out of curiosity if it weren't for those two arseholes on the packet.

I'm gonna say...

Daryl Sommers (does he count?): TV Dinner-quality meals of mashed potato, peas and carrots sliced with one of those wobbly carrot slicers.

Judith Lucy: Alcohol and tears

Tony Martin: Champagne

Harveyjams those aren't comedians, they're characters in the Australian soap opera Neighbours, just FYI.

While I was at the shops today, I saw another new flavour called BBQ RIBS! Anyone tried these? I'll get around to it.

Well, that just goes to show that you should have been paying more attention in class and snorting less crack!

Smokey Bacon was also a pretty great flavour! Man, they should get rid of some of the STAPLES that no one eats and bring some of these back.
