Something glorious and ludicrous is going down this weekend.

You may be aware that indie games blog TIGSource is having a B-game Competition. You may also be aware that I run a website dedicated to celebrating and creating more of that sort of thing.

The Glorious Trainwrecks Dot Com entry into the competition will be called "The 100-In-1 Klik & Play Pirate Kart", and it will consist of 100 small, terrible games made in two hours using Klik & Play. (You don't actually have to use Klik and Play, but the two hour time limit is firm.) Furthermore, as time is short and it will never happen without an even more insane deadline, all 100 games will be made this weekend. As further incentive, I am even offering prizes (in the form of terrible videogames in the mail) for those who contribute most greatly to our glorious cause.

Join us! If you're not up to cranking out lots of random-ass games this weekend, then consider at least doing one or two. It's great fun.

Further details are available on our website.

You know you want to be in on this! IT IS YOUR DESTINY.

Everyone should want to do this!

Once you know your way around the tool, you can easily throw together two or three one-screen games in two hours. Have a look at this nice archive of previous two-hour Klik & Play efforts for inspiration.

Though I might end up doing a couple of games in MegaZeux or something, just to mix things up a bit.

Yeah. . . I'm in, but I'll have to spend all of tomorrow figuring out how to use Klik & Play. This sounds amazing.

Basically my plan is to whip up a separate menu app after this weekend that launches the executables and maybe shows off screenshots. So it won't really matter what you choose to write the games in; I recommend Klik & Play because it's straightforward to use, delightfully broken, and filled to the brim with ludicrous clipart. (Though the backgrounds run out of mileage pretty quickly.)

As far as tutorials go, this one doesn't look half bad. Lots of tutorials there with useful videos.

PROTIP: Question objects don't fucking work at all and can inexplicably freeze K&P solid if placed offscreen, causing you to lose all your work. Don't ever bother trying to use 'em -- it will only end in tears.

I'm hoping to use some of my own horrible art for a more trainwreck feel. And my own sound. Are these things easily imported? If so, I'll mess with it all and bang some quick "fighting" games out. Then, you know, whatever from there.

Sound is easy -- you just say "Play sound" in the event editor and point it at a WAV file (or "Play music" and point it at a MIDI file). Importing graphics is hard to figure out how to do because there's no menu item -- you have to use the disk icon in a given graphic editor. (Search for "import".)

PROTIP: If you try to import a bitmap straight from the animation editor, it seems to expect a grid or something -- import each frame individually. Also, save your work! It seems to choke on some files. And pasting from the clipboard.

Just remember that there is a two hour time limit to your ambition! Agonize over nothing. Go with your instincts and don't look back.

dessgeega, I do hope you take some time to join us. Two hours of completely reckless game design could potentially serve you well as a break from this other mystery project of yours.

Is friday night included as "this weekend"?

I may try to learn this program and create a game in 2 hours... but I would have to do it tonight!

Well, I finished my first game in 5 minutes short of 2 hours. The next game should take five minutes as it will be a mod. Where should I send this? Should I hold off making any more games until Saturday? I wanted to get the hang of it beforehand.

My game is called "Fight a Chicken."

IT BEGINS!

Having them all done within 48 hours is part of the mystique, but so is blatant cheating, so if you feel like making more games, I won't stop you. 100 is a lot.

Theoretically you can upload stuff to my website, but in practice it doesn't seem to work that well. Upload it someplace and post a link in a comment here.

Is your site dead man? Also, like, is there a link to the exe for this program anywhere else?

Yeah, my hosting appears to be down right now for some reason. Hopefully not related to me.

Klik & Play is downloadable here! Wikipedia has the download link.

Swimmy I love your game. Fighting chickens with love is the only thing that makes a lick of sense these days.

I have the greatest game ever, but this damn program won't work.

I tell it to start a certain animation after a delay. It works when I go to the Step Through Editor, but when I save it as a standalone game it doesn't start the animation.

What the hell? The game hinges on this! It would have been done in under an hour but now I'm going to wait for a response before going back into it. I've spent 1.5 hours on this, which is .5 too many!

EDIT: It's actually a movement path, not an animation

Hahahaha! It took me so long to figure out how yours worked. It almost gave me a seizure to begin with.

This final product is going to be gorgeous.

Ok, I had to do some trickery, but here it is:

MY GAME FOR THIS PROJECT

Total build time: 1.75 hours

;_;

EDIT: what's missing? I grabbed the .exe and put it on the internet, but what else did I need for a standalone game? It won't run Sad

EDIT2: Link is fixed!

I'm making one of these and it will be amazing. Just one question though. When you're playing a 2 player PC game where both players use the keyboard and the controls are movement and action, which keys do you use for each player?

I don't know how to IRC ;(

And I'm not using Klik N' Play. I'm using XNA. And I might be spending more than two hours per game Sad

I don't think I'll be done for a while, but when I get done my game will be the most glorious trainwreck imaginable.

Step 1) Download mIRC or ChatZilla.
Step 2) When it's open, type "/server irc.freenode.net" (without quotes of course)
Step 3) When that loads, type "/join #glorioustrainwrecks"
Step 4) Discuss the creation of terrible games with us!

That goes for the rest of you too.

Once this is finished it should be the cover cd for TGQ #9. I would be more than happy to pay a premium.

Cycle, unfortunately it is too late to contribute to the 48-hour Pirate Kart Meltdown. But it's never too late to join the Klik of the Month Klub!

Everyone who made games, THANK YOU. And also please post in this thread.

Sadly I worked all weekend and was too tired afters to try my hand at KnP, but I'll try and churn some Trainwrecks out later--

but I'm downloading the .7z now, and from illustrated concept alone I'd like to second the nomination for the DELUSIONS OF GRANDEUR award for Haze.

Everyone with a heart, pulse and/or soul should vote for us! Take a minute to sign up to tigsource and do it!

PS. People who made games for the kart should not vote for us. There is an honour-enforced rule that only up to 3 team members can vote for their own creation - and apm/spindleyQ, six and I have already done so

Hmm, you possibly should have mentioned this earlier.

Yeah sorry. It was mentioned in the main post of the voting thread on tigsource. But that's cool, I or others can totally change our votes.

But this is probably best discussed over here

I am bringing this back on to the first page because Klik of the Month Klub the 5 - Never Forget Me... is up this weekend! Also because I have done a new game and can't be arsed making a new thread for it. Besides, it's more traffic for the site if you go and get it there.
