This is the thread to throw random links that you want to show off into. That sentence makes no sense!

Anyway, most of the people who write for TGQ have their own thread to do this in, so this might not work. However, I don't and I don't, so I don't care.

Today's junk link is: Superbad.

Superbad dates back to around 1997, which is pretty dinosaur-ish relative to "Web 2.0" and such. It's basically 'web art' consisting of a series of pages with hyperlinks forming some sort of maze-y structure where you bop around and look at images and animations. One of the better things to check out on the 'puter when you were drunk at 3AM at university, along with Time Cube.

You gotta sell this shit, folks.

I mean, Jerkcity, just looking at the URL, you get nothing. However, if you said "this is a comic made using an old program called Microsoft Comic Chat that revolves around dicklicking, dicksucking, restroom stalls, pissing on people, rape and pot use that is probably the funniest thing on the Internet. Features: beaknits, cavemen, tiki masks and Dr. Who references. Is somehow and mysteriously related to both LeisureTown and rotten.com."

Well!

I'd have hoped its unsurpassed brilliance would have spoken for itself. ;(

Same with the other two links.

99 Rooms is a brilliant Flash art piece. You explore 99 scenes of surreal, animated graffiti art in desolate industrial locales. A few puzzles here and there, but they're of the simplistic sort.

The second link is a photo of Rhea occulting Saturn.

Additionally, here's footage of solar flares 8,000 kilometres in length going at ungodly speeds.

Only people aren't going to follow those links unless you convince them to. Since the brilliance is never experienced until the link is followed and unexplained links are unfollowed links, said brilliance isn't going to make much of a difference.

Oh, these are good links, too! I would bet lots of money that the second one was designed by the person / group that did those two similar web games with amazing art that take place on like floating tree-planet-islands out in space. I can't remember their names though.

I really, really need to save my 28 Days Later rant and just direct people to that comic every time. But people usually respond, "It's a horror movie, people always do stupid things in horror movies." Yeah but they also don't spend half the movie talking about how important survival and not doing stupid things are and don't take themselves so seriously to begin with. Also, zombie movies ≠ horror movies.

Edit: host change

Swimmy, you might want to host that image yourself or summat. SA doesn't take kindly to people hotlinking images that they're hosting and typically have something set up to replace the original image with something awful (haha) pretty quickly.

Note: I don't think Mr. Woodring actually has anything to do with Jerkcity. He just sold the graphical rights to microsoft, or something.

And then somebody else used that to do some kind of psychedelic rant about how much he loves penises.

Huh, I'd never heard of this before. It's pretty interesting, but I feel that it's ultimately pointless. Kind of like the greatest riddle ever told. Either way, I was reading what it was on Wikipedia and it seems that no less than 4 games use this in their plot.

Wired story about a murder case that's fairly local to me, heavy on the creepy factor.

Cult of the Clitoris

In 1918, starlet and dancer Maud Allen performed the title role of Salome in a private, by-subscription-only performance of Oscar Wilde’s play.

Shortly before the opening, the rightwing paper The Vigilante, run by Independent Member of Parliament, Noel Pemberton-Billing, printed an editorial about the show’s star under the heading "The Cult Of The Clitoris", suggesting that if one could get their hands on the subscription list for Maud Allen’s Salome, they would have a list of the first few thousand of 'The 47,000.'

This oblique reference relates to the January 26, 1918 issue of the Imperialist (later to be renamed The Vigilante, in which Billing claimed that the Germans had a "Black Book" containing the names of 47,000 British men and women who were vulnerable to blackmail or had betrayed state secrets because of their "sexual peculiarities." His source for this claim was Captain Harold Spencer, who had been invalided out of the British Army and British Secret Service for "delusional insanity."

"Wives of men in supreme positions were entangled," wrote editor and publisher Billings in that first article. "In lesbian ecstasy the most sacred secrets of state were betrayed. The sexual peculiarities of members of the peerage were used as a leverage to open fruitful fields for espionage.

"All the horrors of shells and gas and pestilence introduced by the Germans in their open warfare would have but a fraction of the effect in exterminating the manhood of Britain as the plan by which they have already destroyed the 47,000."

The use of the word 'clitoris' was a calculated one by Billing and Spencer. The latter testified that, in the course of searching for a headline "that would only be understood by those whom it should be understood by," he had elicited the word from a village doctor, who had informed him that the clitoris was an "organ that, when unduly excited . . . possessed the most dreadful influence on any woman...." Allan's acknowledgment of knowing the word was presented as evidence of sexual perversion.

Allen responded by suing The Vigilante for libel, saying she’d been accused of lesbianism. Editor-in-chief Pemberton-Billings said he hadn’t written the second, unsigned editorial, but took full responsibility for its contents.

Billing had long used his papers to promulgate the view that Germany was a thoroughly degenerate country, particularly owing to the power of Jews and homosexuals therein, and that German agents were attempting to weaken the moral fabric of Britain by luring its citizens into vice. With a true national soapbox in the dock, he could bring his ideology to every newsmedia in the Isles.

His defence lay in the argument that Allen knew the meaning of the word clitoris. It had to be explained to the court where the clitoris is and its connection to lesbianism. Considered obscene to reprint the word in the press, the whole trial became soaked in titillating secrecy within the public imagination.

Billing further used innuendo by introducing the fact that Allan was the sister of a convicted murderer. His argument was that murder showed evidence of sadism (defined, in the testimony of Spencer, as "the lust for dead bodies"), which Billing alleged was hereditary. He discussed various perversions that he claimed to find in Wilde's Salome, implying that a performer willing to depict these might well practice them herself. He also tried to insinuate that Allan had an unusually close friendship with Margot Asquith.

Another witness, Eileen Villiers-Stuart, claimed to have seen the "Black Book," and testified that the names of both Herbert and Margot Asquith were in it (along with that of Charles Darling, the judge presiding in the case).

But before the trial ended, Pemberton-Billings retracted his allegation that Allen was a lesbian and claimed that she had misread the editorial from the beginning. Classed merely as a case of confusion, Pemberton-Billings was aquited and Allen’s career lay ruined by the scandal.

When the war ended, the 'Cult of the Clitoris' became unimportant - female homosexuality had never been a crime in the UK, and finding scapegoats for a British defeat was unnecessary with the sudden victory.

I forgot to post the film link. Too bad we don't get the whole descent video.

AAHH!! My palms were sweaty after watching that. I was fine until they showed a side shot, where you see the slight glow fade into darkness. Whew.

"These mines can be passed only by an all out suicide march, and, if an opposing army turns away instead, civilians face an ever-changing, hopping aggressor engineered by the U.S's finest minds.

Which is not nice."

Lots of people think hoaxes are real, perhaps partially because the real stuff is sometimes pretty kooky.

Iron Mountain

"...The author of this book took full credit for the first book and claimed that it was a hoax. The only problem with this "hoax" is that everything in the original book has worked out to be true. So whether the original title is a hoax or not is irrelevant. The original book is a blueprint for the present and the future. ..."

Text of the report

Quote:
BACKGROUND

Plaintiff Teri Smith Tyler, appearing pro se, filed a complaint in December 1992 alleging a bizarre conspiracy involving the defendants to enslave and oppress certain segments of our society. Plaintiff contends she is a cyborg, and that she received most of the information which forms the basis for her complaint, through “proteus”, which I read to be some silent, telepathic form of communication.

See complaint, at 1, and Affidavit accompanying November 1993 Order to Show Cause, at ¶ g. She asserts that the defendants are involved in the “Iron Mountain Plan”, which provides for the reinstitutionalization of slavery and “bloodsports” *538 (which she identifies as death-hunting FN1 and witch-hunting), and the oppression of political dissidents, herself included. Plaintiff's complaint alleges a number of personal indignities visited upon her by defendants: “strafing of my dormitory room by planes and helicopters, the electronic bugging of my student rooms and apartments, deliberate noise harassment, blasting of loud rock music with lyrics designed for witch-hunts (music about social pariahs) ... students following me around to prevent me from studying, whispering campaigns and social ostrification ...” Complaint, at 1-2. Plaintiff also makes the following allegations against the defendants. Former President Jimmy Carter was the secret head of the Ku Klux Klan; Bill Clinton is the biological son of Jimmy Carter; President Clinton and Ross Perot have made fortunes in the death-hunting industry, and are responsible for the murder of at least 10 million black women in concentration camps, their bodies sold for meat and their skin turned into leather products. The defendants are also responsible for breeding farms, which turn out 2,000 black girls a year, who are then sold for recreational murder or as human pets. Additionally, the defendants utilize weather control and earthquake technology to threaten other countries that object to the Iron Mountain plan.

FN1. Death-hunting is described by plaintiff as follows: “In death-hunting, teams of pimps and harriers (women working for pimps) follow a black woman they want to force into sexual slavery and snuff rackets, try to wreck her employment prospects, isolate her socially, break her up with friends and family, often they try to force her onto welfare because it often circumscribes her choice of places to live. Sometimes members of a woman's family or her mate will be cooperative or part of death-hunting teams because participants get paid.” Complaint, at 4.

Plaintiff asks the Court to grant her the following relief:

1. $5.6 billion in compensatory and punitive damages;

2. A physical accounting of all black women born since 1940, including their present whereabouts, and for those who have died, an investigation into how they died;

3. The purchase of land in Africa for the emigration of abused black women;

4. The bringing to justice of those responsible for the American holocaust;

5. An investigation into the foster care system, and a physical accounting of all black children placed into foster care;

6. An end to slavery in the United States;

7. The end of the cyborg program run by NASA, the Defense Intelligence Agency, American Cyanimid and IBM;

8. An end to the organ-donor program.

While plaintiff was trying to effect proper service of the summons and complaint on the defendants, she made a number of appeals to the Court for interim relief in the form of Orders to Show Cause. On January 20, 1993, she asked the Court to enjoin the inauguration of President Clinton. The Court denied her request as moot. In August, 1993, she moved to enjoin the installation of Louis Freeh as Director of the FBI on the ground that Clinton appointed Freeh only so Freeh could cover up evidence of Clinton's wrongdoing. That motion was denied, as it lacked a sufficient evidentiary basis.

Presently before the Court is an Order to Show Cause why the Court should not enjoin the trial in the World Trade Center bombing case, now proceeding in this Court before Judge Duffy. Plaintiff alleges that President Clinton ordered the bombing of the World Trade Center in order to justify war with Iraq. In support of her application, plaintiff describes certain “proteus” communications she had with other individuals. Plaintiff alleges that the United States invaded Panama and arrested General Noriega because Noriega objected to United States soldiers raiding Indian tribes in Central America for child sex slaves to torture in American cocaine based thrill-killing rackets. Plaintiff contends she wrote to Noriega asking him to join in her lawsuit, but that United States soldiers holding Noriega beat him when he asked for his mail.

Plaintiff asserts that in 1988, Rajiv Ghandi spoke to her through “proteus” and informed her that he was being held prisoner and sexually abused by a man whom he had caught stealing from the funds generated by the Bhopal disaster settlement. According *539 to plaintiff, Yasser Arafat tried to confirm Ghandi's tale of abuse on behalf of the plaintiff, to no avail.

Plaintiff additionally contends that Gulf War against Iraq was undertaken so that America could restock its sexual slavery camps, which had been depleted. According to plaintiff, 40,000 Iraqi soldiers captured by the United States, selected for their physical attractiveness, have been brought to this country where they were “being beaten, forced to run gauntlets and homosexually gang-raped by American soldiers.” Plaintiff claims to have confronted Secretary of Defense Cheney with evidence of this allegation. Cheney, through “proteus”, purportedly told the plaintiff, “Well, we were so sick and tired of killing black girls. We just had to put some variety back into our death-hunting industry. And they [Persians] are incredibly beautiful. The beauty of the face heightens the pleasure of the kill. I know of no higher pleasure than the gang-rape of exceedingly beautiful people.”

Additionally, plaintiff alleges that the Serbian government, the “Nazi Bund”, the Bank of Commerce and Credit International (“BCCI”) are also involved in the conspiracy.

Attached to plaintiff's papers, and apparently offered to support her claim, are a number of exhibits. Most prominent among the exhibits is a book by Robert Ellis Smith entitled Privacy: How to Protect What's Left of It (1979), and a four page illustrated pamphlet advertising pornographic movies starring young men. Plaintiff has circled a number of photos of naked men who appear to be of Mediterranean or Latin American descent, which I interpret as her evidence that Iraqi and Central American men are enslaved in pornographic “rackets”.

Plaintiff appears to have effected service on few of the named defendants. Although IBM and BCCI each made an appearance (and successfully moved to have the claims against them dismissed), plaintiff never filed proof of service against either defendant pursuant to Fed.R.Civ.P. 4(g). Service was eventually made against the Federal Defendants, but it may have been effected more than 120 days after filing. See Fed.R.Civ.P. 4(j).

IBM's motion to dismiss the complaint against it was granted by Order dated September 29, 1993. That same order dismissed the claims against BCCI, to the extent they could be asserted against the Superintendent who was supervising the dissolution of BCCI. Currently pending before the Court is a motion to dismiss by the remaining defendants, and the Order to Show Cause to enjoin the World Trade Center bombing trial.

Tyler v. Carter 151 F.R.D. 537, *537 -539 (S.D.N.Y.,1993)
