SO DESS CAN TALK ABOUT HOW
BEAUTIFUL WHITE SATURNS ARE

In case you missed it, here's my video gift to all of you. Sorry to sound like such a tourist at times.

To answer a question: I didn't get everything I wanted, but I came pretty close. I still sort of wish I got Dracula X for the Saturn, just because. I had to order some basic things when I came back, as I mention.

(Related: I replaced my Saturn's battery but it's still not saving anything. Any advice? Is there a way to force games to save on my Action Replay instead of to the Saturn itself?)

There is a lot of other travel footage that I may or may not upload. There certainly is a lot more footage of the karaoke room with Rud13, Tim, Brendan and I, but you don't want to see that, trust me!

Hey! That video was AWESOME!

But I'm sad that you didn't film at all inside of the stores. I would have liked to have seen you flip out.

Did your PS1 version of Symphony come with a soundtrack? Mine did, but I wasn't sure if it was a limited edition thing.

Well I know how Japanese store owners are about filming (cue Retro Core theme music) so I didn't risk it. 1up's Retronauts: Bonus Stage has some limited footage of Super Potato, which was, of course, where I spent most of my time.

My copy of SotN did in fact come with the soundtrack. It is just what the doctor ordered; my only complaint is that it doesn't include the entirety of the Castlevania IV soundtrack. (Apparently, though, I just finished downloading that! Woo!)

Glad people are enjoying the video, since I made it for you guys. I know it's a bit dry; I'm not that funny without someone around to work with. :-)

In your video you mention getting a 4-in-1 to play domestic games on your Saturn, but I would advise against that. I've always heard that the cart slot on the Saturn gets damaged over time, and using the 4-in-1 like that will break it.

Too late! I got it a week ago... I guess I'll just have to take my chances. Now if I could only get the fucking battery to work.

Word. Just get a domestic system for like $30 off eBay.

I've got an extra one - system only - in a drawer that you can have as long as you cover shipping.

I've been using a 4-in-1 to play import games almost exclusively on my domestic saturn for the past 6 years. When is it supposed to fry my cart slot?

I myself am going to Japan at the end of the month, and Akihabara. Rud13 has promised to give me a tour! I hope he also knows the location of good spots to get art books and where the best maid cafe is.

Fort, have fun there! I know Rud13 isn't crazy about Super Potato but it's so much fun to go there. Are you bringing a video camera, by any chance?

No, just a camera... abeit a brand new one, so I'll be taking PLENTY of pictures. I'm also gonna try to post them as I take them over at my site, and my new cell phone blog.

So... I had to scrap my entire travel video project because of a tiny, technical impossibility. I'm going to have to rebuild it from scratch. Before I do, however, I'm going to compile a gag reel of sorts of all the other little TGQ-related clips I didn't even remember that I filmed. Expect another small collection of gaming-in-Japan miscellany very soon!

I have a request for your next video, inspired by your holding up a note to the camera in the last video. Why not draw pictures of what you think other GQ members look like, and hold them up to the camera? That would be great! You should start with me since I still haven't got over not being mentioned in the note. It's a fun challenge, I did it a while back. I'm sure you'd be up to it since you're a great drawer.

More Movie Madness!

Just added:
The Gamer's Quarter & The Holy Pilgrimage
Watch as weary TGQ traveller Lestrade descends the depths of the Kyoto suburbs to find the holy land: Nintendo Headquarters.

The Gamer's Quarter Hits Japan and Hong Kong (In the Crotch)
TGQ Thrilla Gorilla Lestrade romps, tromps and stomps his way through Harajuku and Hong Kong. Not even the mighty Rud13, Brandon or Tim Rogers can save him from the karaoke power-hour. Danger! Excitment! Riiiidge Racer!

((sorry, Harveyjames, the drawing idea is going to have to wait until I make new videos—which will be soon!)

Man, you just walked all the way up to it and stopped? You'd think we had enough credentials between us to at least score an interview.
