Yeah, that was a super annoying part of Stalker.

Nicer guns should be a bit lighter and more accurate. Maybe degrade more slowly.

The ability to move objects realistically would be very helpful.

Those are some amazing screens, dhex. This whole thread makes me want to really play the game, but I doubt it'd run that great on my computer. I'll check it out in a couple years though, when my computer can handle it and it's been patched enough times.

It's been a couple years, I now have a computer that should run this pretty well, and it's been patched up like a mofo so I'm downloading it from Steam right now OH MY GOD. It's at 84%, I'm excited.

I'm so glad I didn't follow this game religiously back in the day. I'm going in almost totally pure. I remember reading a preview of it in GamesTM in like 2004 I think and was like whoa that sounds pretty cool I'm gonna have to check that out at some point. And now in 2010 that point has arrived. 'bout to take an excursion into the Zone y'all. Wish me luck.

Good luck! It's still a fantastic game.

Brutal, but fantastic!

You may want to check into mods, but personally I like the game mostly modfree... though some fix little niggling problems I had with the game.

Thanks Cycle!

You're right, this game is fucking brutal! I'm playing on Veteran difficulty and was dying a lot in the first quest, but then I turned the mouse sensitivity down and did a lot better. I had it turned all the way up but I guess that's too twitch for me, and this doesn't really seem like a twitch game anyway.

But yeah, did that quest and picked up a bunch of others. I could really get into this! I like how you can bleed after getting shot, and how it slowly drains health until you either patch yourself up or stop bleeding. This feels like the kind of game Fallout 3 should have been. Fallout 3 should have given you a pair of binoculars.

Also, I'm able to run it in the highest resolution with everything turned on and all the way up and it looks pretty evocative and bleak. Framerate is rock solid with no stuttering at all, though there is some horizontal tearing but not too much to be distracting. It also crashed to desktop after an hour or so of starting it but that's not that big a deal because I'm pretty anal about quicksaving a lot.

I like how you can hear your dude breathing. He sounded pretty nervous while creeping around that bandit hideout trying not to get shot!

Probably won't mod it just yet as I'm still getting to know the game, but so far there isn't anything I'd want to change about it. I'll check them out at some point maybe, there are probably tons by now that do neat things.

I can tell I'm going to play this a lot this weekend.

Pretty sure I did! No luck. It wasn't a bad frame rate either, the game just ran slow. It was odd.

AMD Turion 64 mobile?

Don't know for sure, but it's on a laptop and I don't feel the need to buy a faster computer.

Windows 7 and Steam.

I tried everything, even changing some shit in a config file and downloading a performance mod, but nothing helped. It's just my combination of components. Also my video card is a shitty stock HP one.

Just bad luck it seems, I ran it fine with a GeForce 7300 GT on a desktop with 2 GB and AMD Athlon 64 dual and Windows XP SP2.

But then Laptops are more finicky.
