You liked KotOR, right? So probably a yea, then.
I happen to think that Jade Empire is worse than either of the KotORs, although it's a lot prettier and I still played all the way through it.
What's important to you about it? |

Uh oh.
KotOR works as well as it does largely because the Star Wars universe is a pretty silly place to begin with, which lowers the bar drastically for anything taking place therein. It's kind of the ultimate white dude playpen.
Jade Empire is those same white dudes trying to get all wu-xia. |

billy dee will pretend he didn't see that.
I enjoyed the first KOTOR, never played the second, and Jade Empire bored me to tears. I fell asleep watching a friend play a copy, then I fell asleep playing it. I can't recall ever having fallen asleep during a game before. _________________ Come to me, Mordel. We shall depart. |

Nay, dude. XBoxification + faux-china fantasy slurry + the exquisite depth and subtly of making moral choices in a Bioware game. Take a pass. _________________

I thought the combat was fun. If you can find it for $10, I'd pick it up. _________________

I'd say this is about right. I got bored with the combat pretty quickly, mainly because it's pretty easy once you figure out a couple viable strategies.
It also has one of the worst map screens in the history of videogames. |

Horrid. I'd rather play Grandia II. Twice.

Every time I find myself experiencing a twinge of nostalgia pertaining to Dungeons & Dragons, I think of the time I tried to play through Baldur's Gate and I'm instantly cured. It is a game made by people who hate gamers, played by gamers who hate themselves. |

There are some pretty good stories about the development of the first BG over at Qt3. One involved the lead designer hosting a D&D game with the staff, with he as dungeon master. In an hour, over half of the 40 players were killed. He was the lead on BG2 and had to be convinced to tone down the difficulty since so many were irked by the first.
I never tried the first, and I really enjoyed the second one. BG2 is one of the few games where my character feels like an actual extension of myself. I ran into a weird bug though, then skipped past some story elements to try to reload but ended up screwing myself over. I'll go back to it someday. _________________ Come to me, Mordel. It wasn't the difficulty in and of itself, so much as the moronic bloody slog. Not to dwell on the bad, it looks as if Kuju have got the right idea with D&D Tactics. |

jade empire is not nearly as bad as grandia ii. they aren't even in the same league. jade empire is playable enough...for a while...it's just bland and utterly average. grandia ii is maggot infested dog feces. as unplayable as it is ugly.
jade empire only runs 8 or 10 bucks now on ebay. i wouldn't exactly recommend it, but i think it's worth trying (for that cheap) if you're really in the mood for a slightly better than average action rpg. i personally preferred it over kotor, but i thought kotor was wretchedly dull. i don't think jade empire was a very long game either, which is certainly a plus considering how monotonous it got by the end. _________________ Brauner: Damn you, humans... I bought a bootleg advance copy of it in Russia five years ago. It didn't allow me to get past the character creation screen. It seemed like Fallout mixed with steampunk, which could've been a very interesting thing indeed in the right hands. Though I hear it's buggy and unbalanced as hell.
On a side note, I saw that Dawn of Sorrow has been rereleased, which should be exciting. What do you think guys? Is it worth twenty bucks? _________________

Isn't that DoS re-release cover hilarious?
Anyways, It's probably worth $10-$20 if you haven't played an exploration based CV in a while. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”
