i like the 4chan touch here, and not just cause they prove the whole liking anything but anime appears particularly bad = soul cancer thing.

this whole thing is easily a chapter in a book about online communities.

Hey, gang. I don't know if I'm banned or what, but the IC forum isn't working for me anymore.

Edit: Oh, the airstrike found its target.

I would say about the point where I was put on the ban list, things were at the point where icy had basically fucked himself over, and then as soon as he added internisus that pretty much sent the forum into a whirl of madness and chaos

I did not notice any relation between my list addedness and the Great Whirl. But, I am wondering, what did I do? Why was I added to the Bad List? It is true that I did not welcome the New Regime with open arms, but I have toiled for hours and hours to be a voice for reason and calm. =(

He put you on the list for that poll you made. Why exactly he did that is kind of beyond me.

Uuh... yeah, well me and TinTin were the first ones on the Ban List, and as soon as he made that, there was a pretty strong, "oh fuck this!" response. Then you being added is what spawned that "I'm glad I'm not on the ban list" post (I think), which is pretty much what prompted the complete and open rebellion... which prompted the sudden bannings... which prompted the /b/ invasion (one way or another).

You guys should use the search function for these forums. Look for icyclam as the author.

Guys...... we should take this party to icyclam's forums. I mean, we should just register there and hang out in off-topic. Not do anything crazy. Be nonchalant. It could be humorous!

I would write about my real actual life, I mean, there are totally things I could say, but after my insane angstsplosion over the summer I have grown simultaneously embarassed and wary.

Yeah, guardian, I don't know why the hell you were put on the banned list. there was nothing really insulting about the poll you posted. At worst it was redundant, but still nothing to get all U 1 CLICK AWAY FROM BE BAN about.

Well you should write an exclusive expose about this dramatic event perhaps.

I was serious with that poll thread! It was a question posed to benefit Brandon, actually! I made it in the same spirit with which you wondered aloud how many people thought it was really fucked up to forcibly attempt to cull the collective personality of a discussion forum.

This whole situation is really one of the few times where a story can be both a tragedy, and a comedy at the same time. Methinks IC as we knew it will be no more. A shame, really.

Nah, my guess is the last backup will be restored, the old admins/mods will be begged back, an apology will be issued, and ummm... things will be awkward for a couple weeks... and maybe some new changes will slowly happen in a much better way, but IC will return to a sense of normalcy within a month or so.

Man, if only that did happen.

Uuh... wait, is this a guess, or do you know that he's seriously going to stick to his current plan to any extent?

Nice going guys! The IC staff thanks you from the bottom of their hearts.

I have now locked everything, and will proceed to clean up the spam threads, as well as ban everyone who contributed to this madness. In a day or two I will re-open the Games forum, and if all goes well more forums will eventually be re-opened. If not, we are batting down the hatches until the shit storm passes.

This is the official IC party line, by the way.

hello! I hope klikbeep registers here.

he probably won't : (

my "thing" was pretty lame. I've been going on dates with this one girl for a while and I don't know how I feel about her and I'm sure she's sick of waiting for me to figure it out. I was gone for all of a few hours and kiddy porn apocolypse. hell.

Okay, we're now getting a 404 error on the forums, so it looks like someone has decided to physically delete the forums from the server!

Whoop-de-whoop!

Man, icyclam told me not to worry and that the forums would still be here tomorrow!

I will miss

Tollmaster's threads about his life.
Wilkes vague threads about his.
Avoiding Internius's threads like the plague.
Telling TDS, James, and others to stop it.
Having Winker telling tim hi.
chaz, swimmy (hi swimmy), and all the other great posters of times past.
Having the cycle of Zelda, Killer7, MGS, Other Game, Killer7, MGS, Zelda
Discovering new games that I had never even heard of before.

I joined insert credit on Nov. 3rd 2003 as l33t Rud13 and a guy infatuated with Tim's writings. 3 years later I'm living in Tokyo, talking with Tim regularly, have a girlfriend, speak Japanese, and talk regularly with many people I've never met would consider great friends.

Oh god I'm crying over here. insert credit truly had an incredible, profound effect on my life and I thank it for that. The day I crawled from a link on Penny Arcade was a changing point my life. I owe almost everything about the person I am today to insert credit, the writers, and all the people I've met because of it. Everyone of you that I've met in real life has been an amazing person. And there's many more of you that I would love the chance to meet.

I loved insert credit and will miss it greatly. May we all one day find each other.

Love,

John "Rud13" Overton

Sklathill was called back from a night of debauchery, took a couple looks at the forum, had a long drag on the cigarette he doesn't smoke, and killed the boards for the night.

Don't worry.

so everything about insertcredit may really be gone and dead.

I am wondering, my fellows, is there anything in a forum that you would like that you felt IC lacked?

Okay, as it turns out this isn't 100% accurate. The status of the insertcredit.com domain is not 100% safe but there's a good chance that it will stay.

The bad news is I talked with brandon it sounds like he just wants to move IC to a different site and wash his hands of it all. Can't blame him after all this, though.

Hey guys could you please take a look at http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting.html and tell me what you think of the most basic hosting package there? 200 GB storage and 2 TB / mo bandwidth. Is that good enough, do you think? What did insertcredit require, anyway?

It will take me a brief time to come up with the startup $$$, but hopefully not long. In the meantime, we can discuss planning and goals for the site as well as the forums.

Are you with me?

If you're going to do dreamhost, there's a promo code here which should still be valid. http://www.modder.org/dreamhost-promo-code/

For the record, though, I'm not interested in doing a new TGQ/IC-alike site at this point in time. Just tryin' to save you some monies.

sup Tim.

I am very sad it went like this. I left the filth there because I wanted people to see the kind of hatred we were going up against.

I hope IC doesn't get into any legal trouble because of this.

If that can be avoided, then things will of course work out eventually.

You may have a future in journalism after all!! Just three more stamps on your RumorMonger Mart membership card and you can get an internship at a city newspaper!!

Thanks for reading my email thoroughly from start to finish when, under normal circumstances, it would be considered most polite to just look away and honor someone's privacy!!

Double thanks for bringing it up in a public discussion!!

You're going to make a terrific father someday!!

Man, don't talk about privacy. Considering this particular email was about how a completely non-active member of the forum was telling another member of the forum that might as well be a troll were he not so damn smart about it how he was going to go about destroying something that many, many others had an emotional investment in, well, fuck. There's your "respecting privacy" right there.

As if you weren't completely aware at how I'd react, at least. I seem to recall us going over this long ago, on a different forum.

I know you all don't like being told what to do, and that's quite alright. You who overreacted: your overreactions are merely evidence of your disease.

Except that when people did actually try to do that, he statred locking everyone's threads calling them, "spam," and then banned someone for making a slightly inane post about LICENSE PLATES.

I say, it's a good thing you weren't posting last night 108. Your usual posts would have been totally bannable material. (Oh right, but he already stated that he wouldn't even consider the possibility that staff can do any harm.)

And then I posted that there were posts I wanted to make in Axe earlier about camera shy people (such a trolling topic!) a certain girl (oh no!) and even Indian food (oh my god, of all things!), but I was rather afraid that I would get banned for making those posts.

Of course, if "talking about whatever general things you talk about" was allowed, he could have just said, "no, I wouldn't ban you for posting about camera shy people and indian food!?", locked the thread, and I would have made my posts.

Rather, he told me to get a life.

Then Wilkes and Baron replied with the usual general details of their lives that they weren't talking about today becuase of the forum drama. Wilkes had some date, and Baron was smoking pot or something.

Then, you know, we started talking about Wilkes' date and whatnot. It wasn't even about the forums! We were just talking about the usual!

Then icy locked the thread and put me on his Ban List!

So...

...yeah right.

People did give him chances -- he could have easily turned things around in that thread. However, instead, he just kept pissing people off and fucking things up more and more. And at the end of the day, he was the admin! Being able to handle a pissed off mob without sending the forums into complete and utter chaos (like DJ has done, at least twice) is kind of important. And sure, there was a bias against him, but you know what? That's his problem, not everyone else's, and he failed pretty miserably at reversing his image at all.

Really dude, most of us are quite reasonable adults here, and don't need some fucking psychopathic, racist, little asshole punk kid from Greece going on a power trip with paranoid delusions that every single post was about him, banning a dozen long-time posters in one night and trying to turn the forums into some kind of fucking police state where you can't talk about... anything?... as the god damned admin of all people!

This entire thing is terrible, and I have no idea what I'm going to be doing and where I'm going to be heading.

I hope that the IC forums return, and that this new Axe appears. I genuinely felt at home and welcome when I posted there. That's not a small thing for an internet forum to make a man feel.

I know. I've heard someone or another use it on insert credit before.

that was a pretty good ending.

It was very Book of Revelations-esque!

I mean, all the archetypical characters were set up.

Things unfolded in this amazing sequence of events.

And everything and everyone was set in such a way that I don't think anyone could have done anything to stop it (I mean, except Brandon, but you know, he was gone by then).

There should definitely be a feature film! It is just like in those apocalypse movies, where everything seems okay, and then suddenly you realize everything is fucked, and before you know it, the earth's core just shattered!

Guys, this makes me scared for the world. ;_;

I'm going to go find God now...
