It's already taken, though. The idea was just to call the place "savepoint" and have a bunch of different domains linking to it.

Still, that just adds another name into the hat. So, whatever.

That's probably me being naive though.

I think this name bickering is ridiculous. I'd rather be posting on the new forum than squatting on these fine boards, anyhow.

Someone send me a Facebook message once this is all over Sad

Brock said it. Stop dicking around. Had this been on my lap, I'd have been done within 8 hours of IC falling over and going boom. You can always change a domain name.

Viruta On is still the only game I've ever tolerated paying more than a quarter for.

Man I miss that arcade.

Okay.

I've gone backwards and forwards on this but in the end I think this is best choice. The name of the site will be SelectButton.

I know this is disappointing to a lot of you, and I have been laboring over the pros and cons of each and every of the names that people have mentioned. I could go down and make list saying why I didn't choose all of them (and if you really want me to I will), but suffice it to say there was one simple reason I had for choosing SelectButton.

That reason is I don't want a name that will get in the way of the forums. The fact is that everyone has a different idea of the sort of community IC is; though we all share many things in common this forum is a very diverse group of people who come at things from a variety of perspectives. The tone and character of the IC forums was never a unilateral thing; the name "insert credit" sure as hell didn't sum it up, and I think if this discussion has proved anything it's that it may be impossible to find a "perfect" name.

Now yes, I think it would be awesome to have a kickass name like bossparade or hardtype, or becausevideogames or any of the other great suggestions people have made. However the problem is each of these names will end up leaving some people feeling left out. They're too specific in what they suggest -- yes, even "becausevideogames" -- and they are misleading about the nature of what this community is like. I chose SelectButton because, even if it's boring and a little awkward, it's non-specific enough to include everybody while still suggesting what the site is about (yes, videogames) and the way in which the site is unique.

It is a weak name, but I don't think that will be any problem for this community. We don't need a catchy name to speak for all the things that make the forum awesome; I'm confident that the forum can speak for itself.

I hope you guys don't feel slighted, like I gave you the illusion of choice and then ripped it out from under you. To tell the truth I didn't like SelectButton very much at first; the whole reason I started soliciting alternative names was because I was sure we could've gotten something better. But after hours of deliberation and sweating over the most minute details, this is the only name I can stand behind with confidence as being appropriate for the entire forums. Think of it like a comfortably fitting loose sweater versus a tight leather jacket; it doesn't look as good but it's more comfortable. Plus you can still kind of see her tits pushing through which is arguably hotter.

I know some of you are antsy about Tim owning the domain name. Believe it or not Tim has my trust in this situation and I would like to ask all of you to do the same, for the sake of the community. I know many people don't like tim, but in all of my personal dealings with him he has been very fair and open, and he has even trusted me with similarly sensitive information, so I feel that I at least owe him that much back as a matter of honor. If he does anything to the site I will take full responsibility, and the very worst that can happen is that we have a find a new domain name. Owning the site name doesn't give him the authority to nuke the forums or anything like that, anyway. Not that I'm worried he will.

If anyone is upset about this, shoot me a PM and I will give you my cell phone number and you can yell at me until either you feel better or my cell phone batteries die. Of course you are still welcome to contact me via google talk or email.

Also: yes, the official spelling is SelectButton -- I think it looks better capitalized, don't you?

Way to grow some balls. That's all you should've typed.

But no, it looks stupid as SelectButton.

Just call it selectbutton.

Also, the abbreviation is SB. SB stands for a number of things.

SB.exe is the last thing you see when Shadowbane crashes.
SB is the initials of a notorious internet furry, SirBruce.
SB is also the shorthand for shitballs.
SB is insertcredit2:electricboogaloo.

I should've pointed that out earlier.

BUT DON'T LET THAT STOP YOU. JUST FUCKING ROLL WITH IT! GO TEAM TOUPS!

Toups: if Tim can be trusted then he'll transfer the domain name to you agreeably. If that costs money, I'm sure we can all chip in a few dollars to cover the costs.

Do not proceed until this is done. If someone has the rug in their hands, they can pull it out from under you. If Tim really has no agenda then he'll have no problem with it. We have no reason to trust him and he is prone to doing crazy shit on the internet.

Seriously get this fucking covered. Please.

Let's have a new poll/thread to discuss "select button" versus "SelectButton" versus "Select Button" versus "selectbutton".......?

Also, Tim owning the domain isn't a huge deal. He doesn't own the server or anything. Worst case scenario is we'll have to move over to selectbutton.ca if he fucked us over?

But I don't think he will.

O-kay!

In fact I was expecting this so I was the first one to make a banner, even if it was a very lame one (yeah).

So! Start making banners!

Also we can do "select butt" threads on the Forum Axe 2

I just picked up select-button.com and Toups is in the process of picking up selectbutton.org.

So there are backups, no worries, etc.

Ok, I know the name is already set, but:

gameoveryeah.com

That's pretty damn sweet, I think.

I mean, just think of the Sega Rally dude happily aplauding the player for his failure. Not only is it awesome, but if kind of fits our situation perfectly, you know?

This is Eljohnzo from Insert Credit. I didn't post very much but I do feel pretty attached to the forums.

What about the name TwoCreditsToContinue.com

It has a nice flow to it as well as the ability to abbreviate it as 2C2C. The name comes from it being both a sequel to insert credit, as in two, and also a continuation of what insert credit began, like continuing after a game over, which is what essentially happened with IC. The Two credits is also just a bit more in line with modern arcades.
