I think the thing that sets them apart from everything else is that the photo itself is the main component of the design. There’s a lot less of the cut-and-paste Photoshoppery (where they take separate photos of each actor and then the designer has to try to put all those photos together into something coherent) that we usually see in US poster or DVD art.

It’s fascinating, this aesthetic their poster designers have. It’s like shooting an album cover, with all the band members in the same shot, doing something cool or wacky.

Here are some I like:

There’s also Lord of War and everything that Saul Bass does.

So are there any movie posters that you’re fond of?

Your links don't work for the most part.

The posters for Save the Green Planet were great.

I loved Lord of War. Not classic, but solid enough. Could have been better without the internal monologue, I think. I'm not that knowledgeable about Korean movies beyond Park Chan-Wook's material (And Peter Chung, though I'm not certain he strictly counts). As far as his Vengeance trilogy goes, I think the first, Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance was the best, but Oldboy holds help very well on its own. Any suggestions as far as Korean films go?

I can't think of a movie poster outright at the moment.

I would suggest things but people would start shouting and yelling at me.

Really? I just tried them all, and I didn't have any problems (in Firefox). I even checked them before submitting the thread. Hm.

Three Extremes is a trio of short-ish horror-ish films by Japanese, Chinese and Korean directors. Park's Cut is my favorite one. It stars Lee Byung-hun, whose likeness was used for Lost Planet. He also stars in A Bittersweet Life, which you might like if you liked Par Chan-Wook's films.

Memories of Murder, Shiri, My Sassy Girl and A Tale of Two Sisters are good. I'm pretty sure that Shiri and Two Sisters are out in the US. You can read some reviews at kfccinema.com.

About movie posters, it's interesting that in 60s, 70s and 80s poster design you'll see taglines that are a whole paragraph long.

Shaw Bros. movies. It's great how random the design is! And they made a hell of a lot of films.

The issue is that kimdb doesn't allow hotlinking. Tim was able to see them because they were still in his cache, so his browser did not need to contact the server (which would have resulted in him being given the same screen that nana and the rest of us are seeing).

This is making me really want to watch some Korean movies, though. I used to watch subtitled Korean TV back when I lived in SoCal.

That's weird that the images aren't working! I'm not having any problem with them...but I won't post any more of those, so I don't end up annoying anyone else. I apologize for the errors.

No problem. Though it totally is the dangling carrot.

That is a dumb and extremely not useful 403 response page.

Did my first three links work? The images I linked just came from those first three links, so maybe since I visited those first, I had no problem seeing the images. I think something like this happened in an Aderack thread once.

Nana, I'd appreciate it if you'd recommend some K-films despite potential yelling.

To bad... I really wanted to see some pictures!

I'm a big fan of Asian movie posters. I have a small collection of a few from HK. My fave being from Litter on the Breeze, which I'm sure no one knows about. Also a couple of Wong Kar Wai ones (I've got a very nice Chungking Express poster from France). I know its useless to say anything without pictures, so I'll just end right now...

I have these two NeoGAF (sorry ;_;) threads saved for reference, and have been getting through some of the mentioned films. Maybe they'll be useful to ya'll?

Edit: Tae Guk Gi sucked, though. Don't watch that one.
