It seems like maybe Insert Credit went down so we be left to our devices and scattered the wind. All other various sorts of appropriate cliches apply as well.

I mean how long does it take to reboot a forum when it crashes. Should I start whoring myself out to other forums and see which forum wants to be the official forum of legal step, or just ride it out?

Okay thanks for letting me share.

Hey homie what's up? I'm a mod here so I'll let you get away with all your legal step-isms 'cause we're cool like that. This can be your secondary hangout when you get banned from NeoGAF again.

Thanks mech. I'm not spamming, I was just wondering really? It seems like fixing IC should take all of 5 minutes, but I guess not.

Maybe Sony litigated the forums to death?

Eh, you know how it is. People are busy with stuff, and the PHP has been giving them problems for a long time now. The forums were bound to die on their own sooner or later, but like the phoenix they shall always rise from the ashes.

They asked me, two weeks before before TGS to fix their site using the new code and have it done before TGS. After the spat I had with Brandon in the forums, I said no (he may not have realized who I was when he emailed me).

Since I'm guessing Insert Credit is running on some pre-internet-bubble hosting solution, they may not have direct access to the database, which would make fixing something like this kind of hard.

link please...

Nana your story makes me sad, but considering I was going to ban myself from IC anyway I should hope that this will be for the best. I think Brandon should blame Sony for it anyway. It might get insert credit a couple hundred more interweb clicks.

Funny, since last time LPN was the place to wait and see. I guess its something else... but I maybe already knew that since I never go there.

This sounds weird, but as much as the IC forums became my fave message board to hang out, I'm sorta glad to have a break from it. In fact, if Brandon had said "I was sick of it, hence why I pulled the plug" I wouldn't have really minded. Especially since things were getting a little strange there near the end.

Everything good has its end. But once the IC board comes back, so will I. Though I hope it takes its time. Though not too long... at the latest, a week before the PS3 launches.

Fort that's exactly when I was going to "retire" from IC. The week of or after PS3 arrives. I think after that it might be to much for me to handle.

LPN was hosted on Lik-Sang's servers, so they had a scare of their own this week. They've got a mirror now though, so all is well.

I was active on IC for about a month and a half two years ago, but stopped for some reason that I don't remember anymore (I think it was because it was really time-consuming keeping up with everything over my really slow TX boondocks dial-up). If the forums do come back I'll probably get involved in them again.

A mirror set up by me!

LPN is sort of this wasteland of spambots and IC people swearing at each other. I'm not surprised it hasn't picked up much since IC went down.

I stopped reading the IC forums a few months back because I realised that only maybe 1 in every 1000 posts was something interesting about videogames and the rest was Tollmaster talking about how he JO'd to lolicon on the john.

Did the forums really get especially bad towards the end? How so?

i thought it was getting pretty vicious and not very videogame-talky. i'd been taking longer and longer vacations from it.

You're talking about me, right?

Anyway, TOLLMASTER's meanderings are often a bright spot at ic.

I guess I'm just easy to please!

The IC forums are a good place but only for the people who have been there long enough to figure out how things work. Pretty much really, anything after a certain point is just too much for a newbie to comprehend. That's not really my elitist way of viewing it, but just the sad truth.

I'm with Fort in hoping that they're down for a while so everyone has ample time to get them out of their system before going back and posting again. The major problem with the IC forums was that the people that were posting there long enough (including me) had been posting there too long and so thing were getting incestous. I think extralife was right when he said most of us were still hanging around due to inertia. Maybe by the time they come back most of us will be ready to just talk about videogames again like we used to.

This is true for me, twice over now!

Just my way of saying I'm more old school than Toups, at least in the IC sense. HA!

Well the IC forums are back. It'll be interesting to see if the time off has had any affect on people.

Though I do sense that folks seem to be in better spirits, at least thus far.

It was a combination of things, which happens to pretty much every message board "near the end"...

- you have a small handful of folks who just love to argue with each other, and other folks get sucked in
- accusations that that the people in charge are abusing their power and playing favorites
- people in charge abusing their power and playing favorites
- the "horror shows" in which one person creates multiple threads about how miserable their life is, and its all real, valid problems, but it just gets to be too much and depressing
- everyone just arguing for the sake of arguing
- overuse of in-jokes

... etc.

So IC is to LPN as NeoGAF is to Opa Age/Reirom Age. Interesting.

IC has been "near the end" for about 3 years now.

Also... god Opa Ages is ... oh god, why did you bring that up.

I stopped going to IC a long time back after participating quite a bit. TGQ helped me realize how little I liked IC, and how far it had gotten from the stuff that made me appreciate it in the first place.

I like TGQ. Y'all are still the first and only board to which I've ever given any time or thought, and that's not likely to change, given the population of the net.

Actually, even with all the faults that the IC forums has, it's still probably better than its ever been. Also, when certain threads start to feel like the "old" IC, I get pretty annoyed.

What exactly do you mean by "old" ic, fort? I see people mentioning it often enough, but none of them ever explicitly state just what they're talking about, like everyone already knows or something.

Like when people say something is "emo", what the hell does that mean anyway.

Didn't K.Thor Jensen start posting on there? I thought that was weird. He's like this famous cartoonist. He's been on TV. Why does he want to post on IC?

When I see an interesting topic at ic, I click on it with the best of intentions.

Around the end of the first page I generally get annoyed, and realize I don't actually want to contriblute anything.

But I still like it. Some of the drama threads are incredible.

Sorry. When I mention old, I'm referring to back when people pontificated endlessly to the point of absurdity, where people would make long, rambling posts, trying to act all deep and philosophical, when it was rather clear that they are just trying to act all deep and philosophical. Often, a thread would begin with two or three good points, but that's it... then people would simply repeat what was said but using bigger words, or better yet, get into arguments that were total, is the glass half empty or full. Even today, you get the occasional topics like those, and they go really no where.

Some say that's what makes IC so IC. Which I guess is true, but that's not exactly a good thing.
