Well it looks like the first images of Jeff Minter's XBLA game is up here (warning, profane language ahead).
I was always held some hope for Unity, and loved the twists and turns it took in development. Ultimatly it was crushed and Minter went to work on the visualisation program that the 360 uses (which is not as shallow/bad as it appears upon first inspection).
The screens look good and I am looking forward to this one now too. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I don't want to get my hopes up, so I didn't say that it had a tempest look to it.
I still won't say it. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

It looks like Neon (Minter's audio-visualizer app that's on the Xbox 360 dashboard). Well, more like Neon: The Game. |

I love the specifics as to why he kept profanity there. XBLA is becoming a very interesting platform all on its own, really. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

I think it's just to put people off publishing the early screenshots.
I think he did the same with his last couple of titles.
Edit: Oh, wait. I thought you said "I'd..."

Well I knew that. I just meant this one looks more Neon than his previous games.
Also what systems did Tempest 3000 appear on? I'd like to check it out now. |

Unfortunatly it is on the Nuon. I have heard it is almost worth getting one just for the game though...
Although if Space Giraffe is basically Tempest 4000 there won't be a need.

AND HOW!
Though I really should invest in a proper controller; all I can use right now is the remote control, which has this interesting rocker-type joystick-thingie that looks like a scrapped prototype--without microswitches--for the Neo Geo Pocket's awesome thumbstick. It's a little awkward for playing games and a little awkward for navigating DVD menus. Tempest 3000 is TOTALLY worth the annoyance, though. |

so according to yak the hairy, the game is officially the next iteration of tempest, he just can't call it that because atarigrames owns the copyrights.
new screenshots too!
this . . . sort of makes me want to start to think about considering possibly getting a 360 - maybe. _________________

I just downloaded the Gridrunner++ demo. It is teh hot sex! Liek omg mate!
But really, yeah. It's awesome. There are only five stages in the demo, but you can warp to world six (and presumably beyond that I hope). I might have to buy the full version if it's not too much.
edit-Actually, I think the demo is just five random levels or something, not the first five. It starts you out on level 2, then the next one after that is 6, so I assume it's a smattering of the overall levels and there aren't any hidden warps in the game. And here I thought I'd found something all on my own. ;_; |

Gridrunner++ gives me a feeling of sensory overload and general bewilderment. It's like a simulator that lets me know what it's like to be my mum playing any videogame ever.

GameSetWatch wrote: | Firstly, there's the price: "Nah, this is going to be cheap as chips, 400 MS notes and it'll be all yours " So that's just 5 of your Earth dollars, then - a good deal! There's also good news on add-ons for Minter's own sound-to-light 'Neon' software that's built into the Xbox 360 itself.
Minter explains: "You'll also get new Neon effects supporting the webcam input as unlockables. That's to make up for the fact that MS stiffed me on doing a proper new version of Neon to truly support the cam, and instead have done some half-assed thing where they just superimpose some cam effect layers over existing Neon. I figure that was a bit rude, so I'll put some proper cam-Neon stuff in the new game by way of schooling }." Wow, camera-activated psychedelia? Count us in. |

Yeah I'm looking forward to this aswell, I'm just hoping that the 360 drops in price and then that there is some alternative method of playing the damned games because I don't wanna sign up with Xbox live and give money to MS. I never have and I never will! |

In the UK, the 360 just dropped to £199.
Not like that much matters to me, as I can't afford it as a student, won't have a TV, and tend to wait out for other consoles releases first.
But still, Assassin's Creed has been announced for it, so that's even less of a reason to get a PS3 as far as I'm concerned. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

Well you don't have to pay for Xbox live to get the games. You sign up for an account and get a free month of their Gold Account then when that runs out you move onto a silver account. The only difference is that the Gold account lets you play games online (like Versus Racing and FPS deathmatch), you can still download everything that is free and all their Live Arcade Games just the same.
Now if you are talking about paying $5 for the download and part of it going to MS via royalties and what not, well I don't think there is anyway around that. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

No I do want to pay for the game, just not microsoft,If I get a 360 I presume MS would be losing money on that deal so that doesn't count on buying something from MS. And I'll be needing something to rub the MS logos of (just kidding) |

Oh, Giant! news! Now I don't even have to consider a PS3 until Ueda lets out his next game.
This is also the first time I've considered a 360 at all. I'm expecting pretty massive things from that game. |

When I first played Hitman (Silent Assassin), I wasn't terribly impressed. Then I figured out that it wasn't an action game or even really a stealth game. Love that series now. Blood Money is a bit unforgiving though (you had more lattitude in previous games when you were going for SA ratings...Blood Money feels like you have to do everything exactly so or you fail, and the game is a lot more punishing than previous installments if you make a mistake, it's actually difficult to impossible to finish stages once you start shooting in a lot of cases). _________________ Gamertag - FalcomAdol -- Don't Click Here 触手

So what would you define it as, puzzle? Strategy?
I'm hoping AC turns out to be a little more PoP than Hitman, but with reduced combat and greater focus on escape. |

simplicio wrote: | So what would you define it as, puzzle? Strategy? | Yeah, puzzle game. When you're going for SA ratings, the game is about finding an optimal path. Which makes sense, the controls are pretty flaky for a shooter (IMHO).
I'm sure it will be more like PoP. However, I think you are going to find that same aspect from Blood Money where you're going to be forced by the game into using costumes, avoiding contact with hostiles, using secretive kills and NOT getting involved in heavy combat, because the number of enemies coming at you is going to be overwhelming if you attempt the combat route. _________________ Gamertag - FalcomAdol -- Don't Click Here 触手

you may want to read the strategy guide. everything that happens in the game is telegraphed. or you might want it to be a surprise. reading it might help you understand why jeff minter is so awesome, though.

Can anyone make out exactly what he is saying? Dess and I were trying to figure it out last night. The most info I got out of it is that at the begining he talks about how you can get Neon (the visualisation program in the 360) like effects out of it. Then at the end he says somehting about how he has to tweak it yet so you don't get over load like towards the end there. He also says something about things being very basic.
All and all, I hardly saw what he was shooting at 80% of the time. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

He's saying that the enemies shown won't be the end result and that shading and such are still at a rough stage. Levels will also be ajusted to avoid overload.
It's true you can't see much, but he is filming the screen itself. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |
