I remember that after Working Designs' Vic Ireland closed down WD's door that a bunch of interviews and first person accounts came out about him wandering E3 looking for sponsors for games that he wanted to bring out. Well it seems like Something is brewing. I know that there are a few fans of the company here so I figured that I would point this out. It is kind of interesting. Anyways, I was pretty sure that we had this niche filled with Atlus and now Nippon Ichi, but it looks like Ireland can still get into the equasion somewhere.

Does japan really produce enough mediocre strategy and RPG games to support yet a third company that specializes in localizing them?

Also "Gaijinworks?" Are you serious?

Dear Mr. Vic Ireland.

Please localize Sakura Taisen, like you said you wanted to. I'll be your love monkey for one whole year out of sheer gratitude.

Put yourself in Vic Ireland's shoes, though: if you got an e-mail from someone offering to be your love monkey for a whole year if your new company translated a game, would you do as this person asks, or would you recoil in horror and never mention the title again?

On a more serious note, I'm not entirely sure how to approach people out of the blue with business requests or questions; "Would you do/are you planning to do X?" always just seemed really presumptuous on the part of the curious.

This is Vic Ireland. He'd probably do it!

And I hope he does. That horrible ending ought to put anyone out of liking Sakura Taisen. :/

I still like the music though.

Me and Working Designs go way back (Cadash, Parasol Stars, Exile, Exile 2, VASTEEL!, Cosmic Fantasy 2). But I want Victor Ireland to stop doing this stuff.

His problem has never been "the industry" or whether or not he's a nice guy that wants to give something to the fans. His problem is that he consistently tries to run his company with one programmer and puts way too much on his plate.

His projects are delayed indefinitely if not just cancelled outright. Licensee or not, developers don't much care for that stuff. And once you prove the financial viability of a model, that's when the big boys step in, so you have to start acting like you know what you're doing at that point, or you're out on your ear.

So my suggestion to Vic is to give it a rest unless he's going to come back in a big way with a large team. Much better that he aligns himself with Ubisoft and helps them bring over RPGs (They're releasing Enchanted Arms this month).

And, oh yeah, Rabbit Rabbit. Happy August.

But, if he does start up again, I'm still waiting for Cosmic Fantasy 3 (though I actually just bought it and will have played it by the time he even hears this "request")..

At least two different anime companies have said publically that there is an effort to bring the Sakura Taisen games to the US but it's a licensing nightmare that takes forever to sort out.

I have to say, I dislike the name he chose for his new venture, but I also like the fact that this guy cannot be destroyed. He's the Jason of the videogaming world...

I want to see them do some PS1 games. Now THAT would be interesting.

I think he meant STV, being the Saturn arcade hardware.

Unless there's a system/genre I don't know about either.

Ugh, no, we want them to do well, remember?

After hearing much ranting and frothing demand for the first Shantae title on IC and IGN, I finally found a copy at the local EB. I was completely not impressed, and had no clue what the fuss was about. It was just another generic sidescrolling platformer, with the only feature that didn't scream deja-vu being the fact that you whip enemies with your hair--which was STILL done on some old NES title I've totally forgotten the name to.

And my guess is that 'Saturn STG' refers to shooting games, i.e. Radiant Silvergun, Battle Garegga, and the like.

Wasn't most of the hype due to their technical achievements?

I would disapprove of this. Then again, I own all these games on the Saturn.

The PS and PS2 joypad is completely unsuited to Saturn games. Games in general, actually :D

Damn it, it's true.

The only controllers I felt comfortable with, as in, felt just plain right in my hand, were the Genesis' second generation one, the Saturn's, the second gen. X-Box one and the 360's.

I'd put the DreamCast's up there too, but I'd actually have to give my console another run to see if it's not just nostalgia.

There was a small window of opportunity when I was choosing between picking up a Saturn and a Playstation. I played WarHawk on the PS, and I played Panzer Dragoon Zwei on the Saturn. It was an easy choice, and History, Was Made.

The other factor was which system had Raiden Trad, actually. And it turned out they both did.

Anyways, yes I have one of these, so for me this isn't a problem.

It's official, believe it or not. Sega also made a few colors in a USB variety for PCs and Macs, but they're ridiculously tough to come by.

They are. One came with the PC version of Puyo Puyo 4, I believe. I did look into it at the time but it was going to be around £30 for the pad on its own, which is/was just too much.

Can't find much on that Saturn-PS2 pad, though (Lik-Sang seems to have had them at some point but that's about it) - is it available elsewhere?

Yes, I'm quite clearly jealous that you have a PlayStation.

Because if I wanted one, there's no way that I could get one. I understand that only a few were made, so the owner of such a rare device must be a god among men.

I worship at your golden feet.

I'm going to have to agree. I think "Leading localizer of Saturn Gal-get games" should take the Korean MMos place though.

Methinks they were talking about the Saturn pad. I'd love to have one of those things, although I have to say, the Street Fighter anniversary controller I bought for $2.50 new a few weeks ago during a night out with some friends feels almost as good as a Saturn pad. The D-pad's not as precise as it should be, though.

The Street Fighter Anniversary Controller really gets a lot less recognition it deserves. The thing makes for a mean game of Guilty Gear XX, and I actually find it invaluable for Gradius V, using the right trigger button to control the options.

EDIT: Proof that my ability to read is hindered by excessive stupidity at the cellular level, I totally missed this:

Change 'Saturn' to 'Dreamcast' and you'd be good to go. With very few exceptions, most of Saturn's get-gal-type games got some manner of updated port on the Dreamcast, not to mention that the DC got ports of the PC versions of the more popular titles at the time.

Because if I wanted one, there's no way that I could get one. I understand that only a few were made, so the owner of such a rare device must be a god among men.
Ah. I have a Saturn pad though. It's attached to my Saturn. ;D

Aren't you aware that you should have a Saturn pad for everything?

I just want one of the "snow white" USB pads. It doesn't seem that I'll ever find one at this point.
