I just found my old Game.Com portable gaming thingy from back in the day.
I'm amused at how much terrible these things are even though I have very pleasant memories of playing Defender in White Space and watching Wheel of Fortune crash for no apparent reason. I also have the Quiz Whiz "game", a beat-em-up based on Batman and Robin (the shitty movie where the costumes had nipples built into them), and I probably have more games hiding somewhere.
Gah, when I reread that last paragraph it makes the system sound like a disease unfairly wrought upon mankind, which I guess it was, but not really.
I should also have a Virtual Boy somewhere now that I think about it. I may have to find that soon...
Am I the only one whose childhood is pleasantly scarred by these machines? |

Definitely not! I owned and enjoyed both of them quite a bit. They were shit, but I loved the port of Robotron the the Game.com had, and Mario Clash is high up on my list of favorite games ever, as is Tennis for the VB. |

Have you seen the other game.coms? Besides the mega-brick one, I mean.
The Game.com Pocket Pro used only 2 AAs and had only one cart slot. The shape was much smaller, and felt a lot like holding one of the old Tiger handheld games. The plastics were see-though and colored (like the iMacs used to be). It came out two years after the original Game.com.
The Game.com Pocket Pro Light was released a year later and had a side-light for darker rooms (like the GBA SP). It still used 4 AAs and had two cart slots. This came out roughly a year after the Game.com Pocket.
All three, for size comparisons. The Pocket really wasn't all that bad as far as game consoles-slash-PDAs went. Even as the cheaper alternative to the GBC and NGPC, it just never took off in America. On top of that, it was a fucking huge system. I've held construction boots that were smaller than it. I remember playing through Resident Evil 2 on it. Not much else. _________________ Collector of over 1,538 strategy guides. That's weird, right?

I wish. That would be badass.
I actually played Robotron on the Game.Com today. It's very hard to shoot diagonally. I will be busting out with the Virtual Boy this weekend... I plan to hook it up to my surround sound system... there will be pictures... |

I've got Fighter's Megamix for Game.com. It's not pretty.

I had a friend who had a Game.Com.
Thank god for stupid friends. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I've always wanted to play that. I've seen screens for Metal Gear Solid on Game.com, but that didn't get released.
I have the strange urge to find, then play through, every Game.Com game ever... |

I bought Resident Evil 2 because of this thread! It hasn't shown up yet, but the guy printed a packing slip this morning.

Metal Gear Solid isn't the only promising game never released on the Game.com... |
