The imagery in the first one makes the caption all the better, what's it from?

It is from the Michigan OST.

It's not my banner, but I saw it at the top and I'm wondering what game this is from:

I mean, I know what game... just... it looks very NESy, but it also looks very SNESy. Was there a Zelda 1 remake for the SNES?

sort of!

the satellaview nintendo satellite service featured a remake of zelda was a different (much smaller) layout. then, when the zelda classic zelda construction set was designed, the sprite-set from the satella zelda was made available for developers to use. that screenshot is from the original zelda re-skinned with the satella sprites.

(note, however, that the satella spriteset that comes with zelda classic is incomplete, and missing most of the animations and some boss sprites. you'll have to download another spriteset to get the full animations.)

I was just yesterday reading those Atari comics and thinking about how I could make banners of them. Well done.

The ratio is a serious and interesting challenge...I had to throw away some promising images because I couldn't get them to make sense w/ that limitation.

So any chance these will end up in the banner pool?

here's one more....

At the risk of playing "more indy obscure than thou", does anyone know the source? they had a machine of it at my arcade in Euclid High School back in the day. In the game, it's a random advertising billboard above the sidewalk....stuck in my mind ever since, just so weird and vaguely sexual-undercurrenty (at least to a mildly perverted highschooler)

That looks like something from Crazy Climber 2. I've never seen in the game though. The art style looks kind of similar.

Oh, almost forgot...
it's from the game Vigilante.

Kind of an interesting precursor to stuff like Final Fight. The KLOV page shows some of the other odd billboards that graceed its levels..

So will any of these be added to the site rotation, or not so much?

the best thing about vigilante is that HEY COME ON voice sample.

that and rescuing madonna from terrorists.

Yeah, the whole "Madonna? THE Madonna or just A Madonna?" angle was kind of odd.

I didn't notice the magazine in the other version of it. I like it, it is discreet.

I just saw this.

My brother and I used to sit and play Area 88 for hours on end. I'm not sure if he ever finished it, but I never got past the weird scrolling conveyer belt boss at the end of the penultimate level.

It's great the way the box is completely flush with the top and bottom of the banner, and just slightly out from the right side.

It's kind of a nice box design, I think.
