So Chris Harback contributed artwork for the Strider article but his name isn't listed under the contributors?
[MODERATOR] I think this is getting put in there right now, and the moderator totally blames that Ancil girl for this. _________________ Mr. Mechanical |

Dudes, you've got to tell me. On the page three artwork, there's a big nosed kid with a gun, wearing cargo pants. What game is he from? I dinstinctly remember playing something like it as a seven-year old yet I've never been able to remember it's name? _________________

That Secret of Mana piece is pretty wrenching, especially as I connect to SoM's specific form of co-op nostalgia (though my experience was a great one, with my best friend) and know how affecting that shared imaginary journey can be.
And Dess, nice work with the Rule of Rose piece. I was prepared for something far less reasonable, but you did it quite well, even if I totally disagree with you still. |

That guy's potentially from Three Wonders. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Yeah, I discovered that recently myself. I also looked up a video of it on youtube and it really doesn't seem as awe-inspiring as it was all those years ago. Age, I guess. _________________

QFT. That piece left me really depressed, and I haven't even played Secret of Mana co-op, or any other co-op games, for that matter (except for Metal Slug).
Pretty good issue overall (if a wee bit shorter than the last one)! The Strider piece succeeded in finally making me want to play that game on MAME, and the machina article gives a really interesting perspective on what I've always considered a fairly boring artform. |

Thanks for all the great feedback about the article. It was rather difficult to confront that game, and the outpouring of support I've gotten in the wake of the piece has made it worthwhile.
Really, thanks. _________________ www.call-to-adventure.com

Sorry if this is a little late, but I've been a fan of TGQ for a while, but only recently joined the forums. Anyways I skimmed through the issue and read Heather's article, and I must say, you did an amazing job. For you to be able to talk about your obviously incredibly painful memories and be able to articulate your fears about the game coherently... That takes true courage.
I also found the message of the article interesting to think about after the fact; the actual context that we play our games in and the associative memories we form can greatly influence our like and dislike of the actual games in question. It goes beyond simple nostalgia, something I've never really thought about...
Oh, and I just realized something. Heather (I'm not sure what you prefer to be called on the forums, sorry), aren't you also a writer for the magazine Play? I'm a real fan of that mag too, and I've admired your work even before I came across the aforementioned article. _________________

Yes, I write for a magazine called Play. Here, I'm Faithless or Heather or whatever. I'm glad you like TGQ, but don't skim the rest of the magazine. My fellow writers are my mentors, my inspiration. If not for this crew of people, and a few others, I wouldn't have written a single word about video games, ever. EVER. _________________ www.call-to-adventure.com

Oh, I won't ignore the rest of the articles either. I usually just skim through the issue at first and read the shorter articles first, then I go back to it and read the longer ones. Don't worry, I love TGQ too much to not read the whole issue _________________

Yeah, wait a minute. Shouldn't there be an issues* 9 and 10 by now? This is a terrifying realisation.

Well, Issue #9 is heavily underway. It will be out this month. It's been promoted to a half-dollar. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”
