Rad. I love how out of all the things they could have made it into, they chose to make it into an officer mouse chasing and brutalising a cat.

the characters are admittedly from the license, but mappy the game contains absolutely zero cat billy-clubbing, so yeah, pretty fantastic.

I remember when WWF got big amongst schoolkids when I was about 7 or 8, and I myself became a wrestling fan! HERE IS A COMPREHENSIVE ACCOUNT OF MY WRESTLING FANDOM.

Me: What's this

Someone else: WWF Sticker Book. This is Hulk Hogan, this is Ultimate Warrior, and this is Legion of Doom

Me: Wow, Legion of Doom are wicked, look at their spiked body armour

Someone else: They take it off when they get into the ring

Me: WWF IS SHIT

I should have bought In The Hunt on PC when I bought Fatal Fury 3 and Samurai Shodown 2 because it's totally ace and probably would have been a good port. And I would have been one of the few people who knew that there was a PC release of In The Hunt.

I hadn't heard of In The Hunt.
Do you suppose the name is any kind of reference to "Hunt for Red October"?
(assuming it's not just the most obvious translation of Kaitei Daisensou)

Also now I'm trying to figure out the possible hidden meaning of "DAS 03E8" on the final boss. (assuming DAS isn't just Dark Anarchy Society as promised.)

yes. yes, i absolutely suppose this.

i really like the way in which the game plays with the water level as an everpresent natural boundary for your sub. most of the screen space of the first two levels is underwater, with a little bit of sky at the top where you can shoot at occasional enemies. then in the third stage, suddenly you're only given a tiny amount of depth that restricts you to just moving back and forth like a space invaders tank; all of the action takes place out of the water. then the next stage takes you deep underwater, removing the sky entirely.

and of course the last stage, where the first changing water level in the game forces you to take note of a strange object, whose identity is later, unexpectedly, revealed. i like to call that storytelling.

Also, you may have noticed that the pixel artists later went on to work on the Metal Slug series. The submarine section in Metal Slug 3 is a direct reference to this game!

Does anyone know of a mirror for that, it looks like the coolest Gradius tribute anyone has done. GR3 Project took their site down some time ago so you can't get it there any more.

Oh! Monster Maulers full game play part one. If you've ever played Metamoqester you should really like this because it's almost exactly the same only better and it beat it to the punch by two years.

Evil gang of space pirates led by their evil space pirate queen infect the earth with monsters and only a superhero team of spandex enthusiasts can stop them. All are steroid freaks! Being a Konami game a Moai head makes a cameo as well as the floating brain thing with arms from Salamander both which you have to fight. The game also has the second best looking dragon boss I have ever seen, just beaten out by Xexex which is also by Konami. After all the monsters are beaten you have to fight the space pirate robot army on the space pirate flying ship followed by the space pirates themselves (also with robots) to the game's sentai-tastic theme song. That's reason enough to emulate it. The other reason is to have the final boss whip at you with her lash, people here like that right?

You get to sit on its head and beat it in the eyelid because monsters are totally gross and should not be allowed to live. Say no to monsters kids or some guy with horrifying dress sense will beat you up as well. Maybe you should write about it, I thought it would be right up your alley.

There are a few links to a full game run of Iwanaga here. It's one of those games that YouTube likes to reduce the incredibly well done sprites into blobs of colour interacting with each other.

Maybe it's just because I've played Space Fantasy Zone, but those post-boss bonus segments look totally in line with the spirit of Fantasy Zone. Now I want this.

i'm absolutely getting the sega ages fantasy zone when it's out in september. that's gorgeous.

warzard playthrough with tessa. tessa's my favorite of the game's player characters, because she's a witch who pulls cats out of her boots. she's the hardest character for me to play, though. so i appreciate this video!

the super mario anime with english subtitles.

this thing is great because it's from that early era before nintendo's designers hammered out mario's corporate image and everyone was entitled their unique interpretation what mario's world looks like past those ambiguous pixels. for a long time this interpretation of mario simply did not exist outside of japan, and i'm really happy it's not only on youtube but with english subtitles.

Lots of Panic! videos. Have we had this yet? We do now.

The game should be subtitled "the Y2K challenge!". The intro is wonderful!

You know, I don't know if I'd buy the album if it's not in video form. I mean, the video makes it.

I don't know if I'd appreciate these anywhere near as much w/o video. All the one's he put out are amazing so far.

TAS of Sonic 3 that glitches the shit out of the game. It's got lots of party tricks but the most impressive one is skipping all of Icecap #2.

Complete commentary-laden playthrough of Sonic the Hedgehog (2006). This is hilarious. Watching it, I can tell it is among the worst games ever made. Like, if I were reviewing it, the best thing I could possibly say about it is, "The story is terrible but at least it's not the worst thing ever made, unlike every other part of the game." Check out the "Taking the Midnight Train Going Anywhere," the first part will do. I've been watching for 35 minutes and they still can't get past this single mach speed section.

Edit: The commentators make fun of Sonic's metacritic score (43) numerous times. It's not nearly low enough.

I'm at "Once was a science pit but now it's a water ride." The players are screaming expletives in horror of how bad Knuckles' wall-climbing is and I'm dying of laughter.

This is making me think of why Sonic Robo Blast 2 somehow actually works. I think Sonic Team should take a look at it; the block-world design seems to fit much better with the characters than a fluid 3D world. I can't count how many times these guys have fallen off a platform just because the edge isn't coded properly to be flat and extended.

Going through my collection once again (once again trying to get rid of most of it) I found a sealed copy of FUNKY HORROR BAND I bought ages ago. I decided to look on the internet to find out more information, instead of playing it myself! There is hardly anything out there, though I did find this love poem dedicated to the Sega CD (note: it's not actually a poem) but more importantly, I found a gameplay video! A Let's Fail video, even. It looks pretty bland and boring Sad THE CD CASE MADE IT LOOK MUCH MORE EXCITING

http://video.google.com/videoplay?docid=-1246315183717173241

I don't know if the player is a 12 year old boy or a female, I can't tell with your crazy American accents. I hope it's a kid because I don't like to think women can be this annoying. Guess I'll be trying to get rid of this game!
