PSO: Blue Burst--the whole package, the servers, everything--can now be acquired for free. I guess Sega doesn't care too much, since they shut the U.S. servers down anyway.
Anyway. I and a few of the SB gang are playing. I love this game, even though it's very simple and boring and won't appeal to anyone with good sense. If you're bored and have internet (and also a gamepad because the keyboard controls are ass), you should get it and play with me. I will give you free stuff and make sure you don't die. _________________

Wow, that's kind of awesome! I may try to get in on this. How stable is it all? _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

Very stable! Turns out this server's been around for a while. I can't connect right now, though. From what I can tell it's not the server, so I've got to do some messing around with my router or something. If it is still the server, I'll, uh, revise my estimation to. . . less stable?
You can't play offline in this version, but you can play offline mode online. Yeah. _________________

Ok, back on again. The game is plenty stable. The server is mostly stable. But they do not update their website to tell you about server problems at all, so you get to be left wondering whose fault it is that you can't connect.
Anyway. I'm enjoying this! I'm a Force and I kick ass. _________________

OK, we need PS2 controller remapping information on how to play this best. _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

I think I figured it out. Unfortunatly I can't seem to make the right thumb stick be camera controls. Anyways, I have a feeling I may never get around to playing this if someone doesn't explain how the hell I'm supposed to level up from LVL one. If I create low level games there's no one that joins making my task of killing things exceptionally hard solo. If I join any "normal" game I get my ass handed to me because most people are such higher level. Also, for some reason there's no option for Episode III level (not like it really matters).
sidebar: where do I find the screenshots I took? _________________ “The average man has a secret desire to be a swaggering, drunken, fighting, raping swashbuckler.”

How to level up from lvl 1:
1) Create a game. Change game options from "Normal" to "One Player." Monsters will be weaker, and you'll have all the loot to yourself.
Or,
2) Join a game Swimmy has created right now on Terra's Luna called "TGQ" with password "dynomite" and allow him to support you as you trudge through the forest.
Can you make the right analog stick menu control? The camera controls are pretty much limited to "focus behind you," which can get very annoying when you're trying to run a straight line toward the camera.
I don't know where it saves screenshots, if it doesn't just want you to paste them into Paint or whatever. _________________

Apol and I did a quest, then went back through the caves again and fucked up that boss like nobody's business. Much easier when i'm not having to revive everybody. _________________

Is there something about this game that makes it more compelling than standard WoW-fare (especially since it predates it)?
Keep in mind I have a soft spot for mmorpgs and played WoW briefly, so I'm just testing the waters here. _________________ ich bin aber eine mensch maschine |

It's not really an MMO. You can only have 4 people playing together at the same time. It's more quick-paced than most MMOs--no waiting between actions, no taking a million years to get where you're going.
Other than that, it's far less compelling than most online games. It's small, there's not much to do but kill the same monsters over and over, and the only real draw is the particular way it requires teamwork. Also it requires jack squat PC requirements to play it.
I still love it, for some reason. I'd never pay to play it monthly, though. It's just nice that it's here for free. _________________

Just so you all know - if you're on and want a game, I have us an esper.net irc channel set up to facilitate this: #pso.
I've been playing with apol and swimmy a bit and god, this game is beautiful and compulsive. _________________
