i finished unlocking all the stages and got the random stage switch (and immediately turned off the melee stages and final destination). playing random, i noticed that it has a sorting algorithm that makes sure i go through all of the stages once before repeating. that's nice!

i finished the solo events, too. i like that ganondorf's event is the inverse of his event in melee. and that it's just as ludicrously hard.

if there's something that disappoints me about brawl, it's that most of the secret characters are characters from melee. which means their reappearance isn't nearly as interesting as their first appearance in melee. there's maybe one totally original secret fighter in brawl, and one ganondorf (a fighter whose moveset resembles an existing character's but who plays substantially different).

That sounds fun! I will keep it in mind.

Dess: I've been having the same mild disappointment with the secret characters.

grab a couple of controllers and head into versus mode, but specifically snake's stage. Select Snake as player 1 and whoever you want to hear the conversation about as player 2. then simply use a down taunt until it he kneels down to call. it might not happen the first few times.

i will try that. do you know which of the three taunts you get when you're playing with the remote? i guess i'll plug in a classic controller.

there's some button you can hold to start a fight as zero suit samus, isn't there.

also, today's custom stage is tetris. it is great. the | shape has five blocks, but i forgive it.

you know who should have been in this game? midna. she'd be a ganondorf of zelda, except her down B would turn her into a flying imp with a giant magic hand.

All Snake has to say about Sonic is that he doesn't like him. This is ace.

yeah, i made a couple of these appear in the game but they're super rare so i watched a video of them instead. they are great! especially luigi's. and captain falcon's. and falco's. actually, all of them.

lucas's does in fact spoil mother 3, but only the first chapter.

The trick to Snake's taunts is that you have to hold the down button for only a fraction of a second. This is very difficult if you aren't in some sort of slow-motion brawl. You can also only do it once per match and if you get attacked and knocked out of the animation, well, your one chance is now gone. Interestingly enough, he has unique comments on Zero Suit Samus and Sheik, but all three pokemon for the Pokemon Trainer get the same conversation.

What's everyone's SSBB number? I'd like to play some multiplayer with folks who I know, and I hate the Wii's rigid multiplayer buddy registration setup.

Mine's 1977-0117-3519.

Peach is my new favourite character though!

It says march 29th.

I'm not nuts about how they keep adding new channels rather than just expanding the functionality of existing channels, which would be a more elegant solution.

Maybe I'm the only one that likes this game enough to still be playing it and talking about it, but I've written a little bit about Brawl and why I think it's the best yet in a great series.

I really like this game, but have been playing it on a borrowed wii. Learning that I couldn't copy my save over once I bought my own console sort took the wind from my sails.

You can! It's kind of tricky but if you have Twilight Princess you can use an exploit in that game to run a program that allows you to copy saves to and from the Wii internal memory that you are nomrally not allowed to.

TP exploit
Savegame extractor and installer
Brawl 100% save file (in case you just want to use that)

You'll just need an SD card and this won't cause any permanent changes to your system.

Finally managed to play Brawl again. Good lord this is a fantastic game.

Easily, Snake, Pit, and Diddy Kong are my favorites. I know I said this before, but playing with Snake forces an approach to the game that works very differently from the typical Smash experience--an experience that has become far less "typical" with this iteration. Snake, though, doesn't only animate in a way that suggests Metal Gear. His move-set isn't just a skin designed as homage to the series' legacy. It really forces you to play in a way appropriate to Metal Gear: sneaky and comical.

Pit's melee moves are my favorite in the game, and his arrow is a versatile basic attack. Diddy is nimble, and a force to reckon with as long as you keep him in motion.

Items are great--but only on low frequency.

Best stages in the game? The new Pokemon Stadium has really captured my heart, even though I dislike Melee's version of it. And, perhaps out of my great love for the series, the Pikmin stage seems expertly designed--and features the best music.

Incredible. Take one character model with another character's moveset.

All those Luigi's movesets...
was it ever determined where his odd "lie down like a boat" victory pose / move comes from?

That giant man-Pikachu looks really bizarre and awesome.

EDIT: However, Spider-Toon Link is terrifying.

So folks I sort of love the Subspace Emissary. If for no other reason--though there are many--than for the phenomenal enemy design.

Right, well that was reason #2. Peach is hilarious. My favorite part may be when she and Sheik were sneaking around the ship, and she looked positively tickled to be part of something so novel.

The cutscenes are great. The enemies LOOK nice but some of them are outrageously overpowered. The whole subspace thing is a fucking chore from beginning to end, interspersed with delightful cutscenes and impossible boss fights. Honestly, whoever designed Tabu needs to be taken out and shot!

Still, man am I ever enjoying this. I'm surprised at how much I enjoy Diddy and Toon Link. They're both so fast and floaty, particularly Toon Link. I really want to play Dedede but he's so impossibly slow. He doesn't even have any redeemingly fast attacks like Bowser with his up+B. I just can't land a hit on anyone Sad

I can, but probably because i only play folks who aren't very good. I think dedede's range and duration make up for his (lack of) speed, but maybe not. Snake, Olimar, Diddy, and Wario are still my characters.

Fascinating new discovery!

Anything look a little out of place? Familiar, but you don't know why?

The brawlers you fight in Endless Brawl matches all have the heads of various denizens of Meteos planets! I love Sakurai.

Firim, Geolyte, and Oleana seem to be the most common.

All of me would love to turn this into a Kirby Superstar Ultra thread as soon as my copy ships from Amazon.

Is anyone still playing this? The one friend of mine that can actually hold his own against me is back in town so I've been playing again. I think I've unlocked all the music because the CDs seem to have stopped appearing.

In case you haven't done it yet, set the items to freezies only and set it to high. Play some 1 vs 1 with a friend. Lots of fun.
