Telltale making Strong Bad games next? Do people even still visit that website? Ok, I thought TRODGOR was funny five years ago, but who cares about it now. Pretty dissapointing.

SEGA Master System games are available on the wii Virtual Console in Australia. Only Wonderboy and Fantasy Zone but this should quickly expand to cover all the other games I already own.

Using Alexa - which is a pretty rough system, mind you - it looks like the site still gets a lot of traffic. An employee of Telltale is at Qt3 answering some questions about it. Basically, they would prefer to do original material but can't just yet, so for their newest project they went with licensing something they enjoy.

Pinball sentimentality. Nice piece, though I wonder why this person was sent to go talk to him.

http://www.blizzard.com/store

Blizzard revamped their online store, which now allows for owners of Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and Diablo 2, along with their expansion packs, to register their CD keys and be able to download the full versions from the site. The Diablo material isn't up yet to download, but you can still add it to your account. Once a game has been added, you can then download the full version for either Mac or Windows and then re-enter your key - the key is also available on the site so you don't have to keep digging for it - and you get a full version that doesn't need the CD in your drive. Two cool things: adding Starcraft gets you Brood War, since BW didn't have a key, and the keys are good for both Mac and Windows - if you bought a Windows version but own a Mac now, you can still download and play. The main bummers for me are that Warcraft 2 Battle.Net Edition and the original Diablo aren't supported. I still play both of those.

Adding the addition of the Warcraft 3 and Starcraft materials to what I own on Steam - id super pack and half-life 2 silver edition - I have around 60 games that are ready off-site for me to download and play, on any system I want and without the need for the disc. Handy!

Rumor is that Blizzard is working on a Steam-like program to replace the current website-based format.

Oh! Also, use either IE or the IE tab in Firefox when registering, otherwise your spam security password (whatever those are called - the jumbled up letters and numbers that are always hard to read) won't register and the screen will just keep refreshing.

That sucks. How're you supposed to get it to work on a Mac then? Maybe it works in Safari.

This isn't really news, but I implore you to visit this site and roll over the main navigation a few times (turn your sound on). Bonus points to anyone who can provide instructions on how to construct the whole song.

I met Keiron Gillen at a comic convention I went to the other day.

Quote:
Me: Are you Keiron?

KG: Yes, hello!

Me: We've spoken before online, I'm James Harvey!

KG: Oh yeah, we hate each other!

True story. Turns out he is a nice guy. Although I did have to get changed in the toilet cubicle he'd just been in, I didn't care for that much D:

I also met one of the creators of a comic called 'Fetishman' in the pub when some people were looking through my sketchbook, and he saw all the drawings from Mighty Jill Off. Not only had he played the game, but he was a huge fan! Score!

This creates a sort of cognitive dissonance; it's neat to see, yet it's the exact opposite of funny.

You're crazy if you think it's worse than the last two DSvania games.

Video of all the recent/new Silent Hill: Homecoming footage cut into one video.

It looks like the SH4 combat system is back and a little revamped.

The first video is also a shameless aping of Jacob's Ladder Sad

Overall nothing is looking all that promising.

The Iwata Asks for Link's Crossbow Training yields this fascinating nugget...

Quote:

Iwata:While there are people like you, Mr. Miyamoto, who find these FPS games to be really fun, there are, on the other hand, people who feel FPS games are too difficult. I think that quite a lot of Japanese people feel this way – why do you think this is?

Miyamoto:I really don’t know what the reason could be.

Iwata:I don’t share this opinion but some say that Japanese and Westerners would have different abilities when it comes to grasping 3D games, since people who were traditionally hunters would have a better understanding of using space, whereas people who were traditionally farmers might not.

Wow. That throws a new perspective on the difference between eastern and western use of perspective in art, too.

Intriguing!
For me the US version just reads boring and dull. Would the JP version read similarly dull to a Japanese person, or is it also "interesting", but you're allowed more leeway?

(this thing reminds me of the whole Mega Man box art fiasco, though http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mega_Man_(NES) shows that the JP cover looked a bit like the US Mario 64 one...)

the focus in the japanese cover is on this big huge space: look how small the characters are compared to it! i bet there are a lot of places to run and jump! the american cover is focused on the characters. in the case of mario and wario, it actually shows them interacting. there's a suggestion that there's some form of rivalry going on between them.

i've barely played the ds version, but i think the japanese cover probably says more about super mario 64 as a game than the american.

I guess it emphasises competitiveness over the freedom to play and explore on your own terms, or something. I've always seen it as being representative of the dichotomy between an individualist and a collectivist culture, which is pretty much what Iwata is getting at in his quote. The box art for the west's Marble Madness vs. the east's Kororinpa is another good example.

I worked on those stupid toilet paper commercials with the creeoy bears shitting in the woods and they produce completely different commercials for al over the whole world! North America's commercials have to emphasise luxury. South America's are all about you'll always have enough paper, even if the whole family come for dinner and want to take a shit. The German commercials are all about how strong the paper is and how they can hold like 5 acorns even when they're wet. The Japanese one probably shows some bears in a tree office using an inferior brand, when the boss comes in to take a shit and he doesn't like it, and then someone swaps it for Charmin and crisis averted, they don't have to all commit seppuku.

that's your best post ever. the smile on the bears' faces (North American version) as they finally release that last huge bear-turd and dab their anuses with the cushy charmin ass paper has never failed to induce a giggle on my part.

I think that the spirit of the original US cover is very similar to the jp DS cover.

Also, there's a huge difference between the US and JP Cameltry DS:
