pros - weird!
cons - barely in english!

anyone have any first-hand experience? most of the descriptions are "it's weird and you should check it out cause it's unique!" which is not much of a description, unfortunately.

I own it, but haven't had much time to play it. All I've gotten out of it so far, impact-wise, is the same sort of feeling I get out of seeing a Samuel Beckett stage production. Which is already something else.

It takes a lot of getting used to, that's for sure. But the effort is like nothing else in gaming, so I found it worth my time. I'll certainly devote more time to it once I have a computer that isn't a piece of shit.

I suppose this thread was prompted by this feature?

meat and theater here sounds even better than turkey legs at the renaissance fair.

i've never seen a beckett screen production so i have no idea if that's good or bad (i only know him as joyce's secretary) but it was prompted by like, everyone on earth sending me messages or links to posts about pathologic and asking me how it was.

as i keep telling my wife, i don't like theater. they're like movies (long) but with the whole creepy making eye contact with you thing. (i always have to suppress the urge to wave and whathaveyou)

anyway, so pathologic is an adventure game? that's unintentionally not fun?

Yeah, I had no idea what that game was. This screen shot made me want to play it more than anything written:

Dhex read Molloy. It's a novel and you'll love it.

http://www.gamersgate.com/

is apparently selling it for $15 bucks.

beyond that amazon.co.uk seems to be the only joint for a retail box.

I bought this game like a year ago but haven't had the time to play more for a couple hours.

I was put off by the opening of that series of articles, I hate it when people say THIS IS THE BEST GAME YOU NEVER PLAYED because a) 98% of the time I have played it and b) there is 98% chance that there are better games I haven't played, don't fucking patronise me, alright?

I should get back into it one day. I had no idea what I was supposed to do which is the primary reason I didn't continue playing. Lack of direction.

oh, are you talkign about your experiences with the game?

i really should get back to it. it didn't seem that weird when i played it to be honest, but then again i've played some weird games and seen some weird movies and what have you. it's certainly creative! i also like the atmosphere.

What the hell? This game is hardly playable. I can't understand anything. This is like playing an adventure game made by the people who translated Castles of Shikigami 2 for the US.

Yeah, that's why I had such a problem with direction. It wasn't often I understood what the characters were saying. I wish someone made a fanpatch that improved the translation...

The fan patch sounds pretty good from what I read on their forums. The devs are kind of involved in it too, clarifying what lines mean and what terms are and such so I have some hope for it. Honestly I didn't find the dialogue to be totally impenetrable if I just really pay attention. It's not the kind of game you could stop playing for a while and hope to just pick up again.

I took some screenshots of the art found in the game, just because I liked it:

This is kind of apt though, because it doesn't come across like it could be any kind of game but Pathologic. Technically it is kind of an adventure-rpg except without any inventory juggling and no stats or character improvement. Actually it's more like an adventure game crossed with one of those desert-island type survival games. Obviously the whole game is just in service to the content of the story, though.

the house interiors are absolutely beautiful, i must say. the little decorative touches are excellent. (not so much the actual textures)

I'd say the textures are pretty decent, they just don't edge them most of the time so the polygon cut-off is pretty obvious and the lighting is pretty much flat everywhere which just makes it even more evident.

I don't know that the game is trying to be imemrsive though! I really don't know. It's the only game I've played where I felt like having 4 identical NPCs standing together was deliberate.

I also like the stark brutalism of the apiary against the decaying art nouveau architecture of the rest of the town. And the abattoir is just weird.

I really wish I could play this game. Perhaps I should give it another shot. Maybe even if I get a bit unhinged first it will help.

All I know is that the trailers look really frickin' cool and the game is full of naked people with cold dead eyes.
