GAME CENTER CX YES.

It's a wonderful and amazing game, and it's hard to put into words why.

I'm glad you're enjoying it, Dess... It seems kind of made for you, actually.

The main thing about Game Center CX is that it presents retro games in a retro context, which I think is positive and significant. (Replace 'retro' with 'historical' and it'll sound more valid.) You can't separate (by elevating it, all too often) an artwork from its context; from the experience of that artwork, and Game Center CX embraces that fact in a really enjoyable and interesting and worthwhile way.

Play it you guys!

Nope!

But if there's a decent translation FAQ out there, I'd love to hear about it.

My wife and I played co-op Mario Kart Wii online last night. THESE WHEELS ARE THE RINGS ON OUR FINGERS AND THEY BIND US

It was tear-inducing joy, it was.

i finished the rpg. or rather, i finished the first dungeon, which was enough to unlock the last game: ninja hagureman 3! i love how it's so utterly different than the original two (which i am utterly in love with). and it captures the sensibility of nes action platformers so well. i love that the most dangerous enemies are birds. i just cleared episode two. i'm still working on hagureman 2.

work time fun is some brilliant shit. i will write in more detail later.

You mean this game:

I've heard nothing but terrible things about it. Explain more.

Hey, so like, SH:O wasn't anywhere near as bad as I initially though. In fact, despite what should have been a failure, it wasn't all that bad!

Work Time Fun is amazing. It includes a game where all you do is cap pens. Over and over again. And sometimes the pens are upside down so you have to flip them over.

here's my analysis of work time fun and game center cx.

i finished ninja hagureman 3 this morning and great fuck is it getting knocked off platforms: the game. it's really amazing the sense of 8-bit action platformer design they manage to capture and it's also pretty amazing that i was able to get through it at all.

work time fun and gccx are both interesting insights into games

it's rather a shame that they actually charge money for the former, though.

Shaper, in his infinite pessimism, always doubts me. To anyone else who's thinking of playing this game though, I'd recommend the PSP version over the PS2 port.

I don't know. I think either version is probably acceptable. I'm attempting to replay the game on the PSP and I now find that version a bit too bright. The PS2 version has quite a few bugs but nothing game breaking.

Also... I think the game is much more immersing on a television than on the PSP.

I've been getting up to a little mischief in EVE.

This is the provocation for the above image

This was made by someone named Scramp while I was busy getting myself banned for giving away free shuttles. "Free Shuttles! Getchyer freee shuttles!" I left them right outside the docking perimeter of a very busy mission-running hub. 20 of them. It was funny seeing the conga line of battleships bumping the shuttles, sending them caroming off of other ships.

My creation and Scramp's, like sides of a cube framing the only jumpgate out of the Umokka system. Umokka is a very busy cul de sac. ( Jita is even busier - jumpgates in many directions and stations loaded with goods, services, and all sorts of mission agents.. The recent placing of a high level mission agent in Umokka led to the new name.

In EVE you're supposed to make your own fun.

So I did.

Big Plans.

You know, you actually make EVE sound interesting. At least from a social infrastructure standpoint.

I just played a flash game which allows you to torture a human ragdoll. If you've ever wanted to rip a guy's limbs off, chop them in half and mutilate them until they are just red meaty bones, tie them with ropes to his head and then hang him from the ceiling by his neck, and finally cut his head from his torso so upon death he becomes a human spider, then this is the game for you!

http://666games.net/violent/flash/play/601/the_torture_game_2.html

In a sense, it's the essence of videogaming.

Remember in Erik the Viking where they had the woman tied to a wall and they were throwing axes at her?

That would be a cool minigame for a fantasy game or mmorpg.

Viking Raider, I would pay $10/mo to play you.

sigh

(You have pillaged and raped!)

Mount & Blade has a similar message, though it just involves destroying villages. The Rhodians are based off of Vikings, so you might pretend for that extra inch of infant tossing and farmer killing.

That torture game really needs a female option. Also the dude needs to react more, otherwise it may as well just be a rag doll. Besides that, though, you can't fault it from a conceptual standpoint!

While we're at it, let it dial gender AND age; teens, preteens, toddlers and infants!
Maybe cats and dogs, and then for that mid-90s flava, Barney.
Also, genitals; how funny would it be to nail the guys wang down and have him sproing off that?
I think besides shallow reaction, we need to designate some AI coders and philosophers and see if we can get this thing to *really* feel pain;
Today's loresjoberg twitter said
Quote:
Before spontaneous AI gains the ability to think, it will gain the ability to suffer.
and I think this is as promising a first draft as any; better than most. (Actually maybe not; you'd probably want to foster something in a SIms-like environment, let it percolate and THEN be imported to the torture program; it somehow seems that a program that was 'born to suffer', and only to suffer, is less likely to be able to REALLY feel it, relative to something that had a richer virtual life and something to lose.)

Well, it finally happened.
The xbox I bought in August 06 is now dead. GTA destroyed it's fragile infrastructure after Assassin's Creed did a pretty good job of maiming it by causing the system to overheat unnaturally quick. Oh, and I guess GTA was fun while I was playing it.

So there are a number of interesting challenges in that game. It's possible to remove his feet simply by plucking them off, but if you chainsaw off both feet he dies. Likewise, you can completely remove his pelvis without killing him, but chainsawing his middle kills him instantaneously. So, can you cut him clean in half without killing him? It has to be a single break, you're not allowed to damage the body in any other way.

Irony in EVE:

I am at the end of this account period

I was going to suspend account right after setting a 20-day training block for a skill

Then come back and continue
(skill set to train at end of time period continues training while account sleeps)

I refreshed the "New Jita mega-sign" (from above post) right before doing this
(the cargo containers I made this ASCII creation from expire every 30 days unless accessed)

Took 45 minutes to fly around and do it

Then:

GM Spiral > Good morning
Kakabuni > hello
GM Spiral > We see that you have a large number of secuire containers around the gate to Ruvas in Umokka.
Kakabuni > oh, yes
GM Spiral > Please remove them within 24 hours.
Kakabuni > there is no lag [edit: due to the containers]
Kakabuni > can you destroy them?
GM Spiral > If they are not gone in 24 hours we will pursue further actions against your account.
GM Spiral > Thank you for your cooperation.
Kakabuni > sorry
GM Spiral > No permanent note of this will be on your account if you can comply with this. Please submit a petition to us if you have any questions.
Kakabuni > is there a way for you to just make them all dissapear at once?

Damn...

I got amazing help from strangers in removing the sign
(after unanchoring them so others could act upon them)

Still took 2 hours

Sad

eh

fuck it

Did anyone get the SNK PS2 collection? I've noted that most of my PS2 library has dwindled down to compilation discs - Genesis, Street Fighter, Midway, etc. - and wouldn't mind adding this one to the stack. The last few emulation-type releases have been pretty good, so I have high hopes for this one.

Nearly every game on the collection has absolutely horrible slowdown. We're talking 75% normal speed Shock Troopers and Last Resort, here.

so now that i've got my computer back, along with my steam account, i've finally played trackmania. shaper's been trying to get me to play it for a long time.

it's great. what hooked me was the fact that the controls screen was just the word "drive" pointing to the arrow keys. i love that some tracks are full race courses, some are obstacle courses, and some are just simple little setpieces. i guess i'm going to be making levels for this.

shadowgrounds: survivor, on the other hand, is just another boring game about shooting aliens. the protagonist's nickname is "marine". his nickname is marine? really?

shaper, tell me what you see in this game.

For me, it's the narrow ledges and the bottomless drops. My favorite level is the island lagoon with the ship and the underwater sections, mainly because if I fuck up (and you always fuck up*), you just have to try what you were doing again.

Nearly every game on the collection has absolutely horrible slowdown. We're talking 75% normal speed Shock Troopers and Last Resort, here.

Guh! Man, I really wasn't expecting it to be that bad. The Midway collections had some hiccups here and there, and even Digital Eclipse did a decent job with the Genesis collection, so I expected this to go off without any problems. Do you know if the PSP version has the same problems?

There's that, but I think it has more to do with the challenge based structure, lack of guidance and stark abstractness of the whole thing.

shaper, tell me what you see in this game.

It's fun. I'm going to do a write up soon, but basically it's an arcade game.

Did you get the _flamethrower_ yet?

I quite enjoyed the original Shadowgrounds. It was like an overhead DooM 3. And more fun than said game!
