I just read this whole thing last night and let me tell you—LET ME TELL YOU—I thought it was spot-on awesome. I read it rapt from beginning to end, oooh-ing and aaaah-ing all the way. Very well written and very compelling. It's made me look at MGS2—a personal favourite—in a different light, and appreciate it so much more. I knew what MGS2 "was," but now I have words to express that.

Great job. Please send a copy to Kojima Productions. :-)

Thanks! It means a lot to me.

After the initial surge of reader traffic (mostly coming from Kotaku and Neogaf), blogs and forums that don't like my work mostly populate the referring sites list. The reactions themselves are pretty strange, too. I had expected that Penny Arcade's forums would follow Something Awful's, at least in terms of liking/disliking the piece, but the response at PA has been overall positive. (From what I've seen, at least.)

Dang, nice work James. This was the purpose of the Japan trip then?

Well, the interview kind of happened on the wayside. I discussed why I was in Japan during the podcast, though. (I'd iterate it here, but I don't like to talk about work on message boards.)
