Chaz linked us in a news post, and Benjamin Franklin linked us in the forums wondering who the heck we were. |

The way we were linked in that news-post, though... I'd take offense if I were enough of a pompous twit. |

Hell, I think it's good advice. Some good cynical perspective to counter the rather plucky attitude of this site. |

Yeah, I took the advice and read all the links in that news post. Kind of prepared me, in a way, for things we may eventually encounter.
That, and it did extinguish some of the pluck, yeah. But that was kind of needed.
edit-Also, keep in mind we haven't really proven ourselves to anyone yet. So far we're just some guys from the Insert Credit forums. It's all about street cred in the fast paced world of video games publications. |

I'm interested in writing for this.
I'm not sure if you'd consider me at all though, since I am not very prolific when it comes to writing to begin with on Insert Credit's forums.
Still, the offer... or request? Stands. I do have things to write about.
Quote: | [...] we play the games we want and write about how and why they attach themselves to our hearts and minds in a way that no other form of media is capable of. It is our intent to publish honest, provocative, and entertaining writing which reflects our belief that video games can be more than mere vehicles for entertainment, but also creative, meaningful works. |
Should I write something and then show it to you? _________________ - n o t h i n g x s -

Why does it counter the plucky attitude?
Reading that is what motivated me to contact Shapermc asking if I could write for the team.
Quote: | Those entering in the business in such turbulent times might want to take a look at these links. |
I thought to myself, "Wow! People with the balls to go against such adversity, throwing caution to wind and riding this turbulance like some wild rodeo rider who has nothing to lose...." and so my thoughts went on, for a good five minutes actually, with the same kind of mounting hyperbolic waffle, reaching dizzying heights.
And then it hit me: for there to be such guts, this thing must obviously be good. Not just good, but golden, and I wanted to to get in on the ground floor! Hence my PM to Shaper with examples of my work, with the tentative hope of contributing form issue 2 onwards.
Looks like you might be stuck with me now.... hopefully.
It envoked in me quite the opposite feeling, the pluckiness now as a result is almost overpowering. I think I need to now lie down. |

Hell, man. Your MGS history was great. I'd like to see more, you know, actual "reporting" going in in games journalism. With, you know, "research".
I'm happy to have you aboard, is all I'm saying.
Are you French? Or are you just in France? |

Thanks, that makes all the hardwork and effort that went into it worthwhile.
Well, that and the paycheck and army of screaming female fans, but I'm glad people notice that it was well researched. Toughest thing was the timeline, why are there no records of release dates? I started writing retro articles for magazines because I was tired of all the crappy retro features I've read that have been totally factualy innacurate and just plain wrong.
Anyway, I'm actually South African/British, with a Polish surname, I just happen to live in France at the moment. (dont ask, its a long, fairly boring story)
Otherwise, I'm glad to be on board Mr Toups! |

Out of interest, I also wrote a popular article on the history of gaming in non-conventional non-G7 countries circa 1985-1998, such as in Brazil, Russia, South Africa and Iran, among others. Sorry, couldn't resist pimping my own work. |
Hell, I hope you have a scan of that as well. Mostly because I'm a Russian and consequently remember the gaming scene very well in the Moscow. |

The last time I checked, these links still had the scans.
The Russian one is pages 5 and 6

Ignore the crap tetris boxout, that rubbish was put their by my editor, much to my annoyance.
He also edited this section out:
Quote: | I am really amazed what a vast loanword vocabulary kids who play games in Russia actually have. Mostly D&D and RPG stuff: quest, mage, paladin, weapon names, and so on. The Russian language, of course, has words for all of those things, since we also have a wealth of heroic myths from feudal times to match the Arthurian canon of the English-speaking world. Just another example of cultural dominance. |
That was my personal favourite quote in the article.
Anyway, it was all gained from just one guy I interviewed. I am tentatively, maybe, possibly planning a follow up article to this one, if I get around to it, would you mind me interviewing you for information? I'd love to get another perspective on things. (and this time, there will be no interference from an ed) |

Yeah, sure.
Your article is mostly correct. Mostly because the gaming scene in Russia changes drastically every time a new system comes out. Plus you obviously didn't have a boatload of space to throw around.
Yeah, the Russian language is filled with Englishms acquired during the last 15 years. My favorite ones are: Rpgeshka for RPG and Nekromant for Necromancer.
Also, even though many people have consoles, they're nowhere near as big as PC games. |
