[everyone, please feel free to roll your own!]

dude the clitoris is erectile tissue encased/ensheathed in a larger casing of tissue.

but what genuinely comes to mind? parasitic wasps.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parasitic_wasp

poetic flights can be a great thing, but sometimes a steady diet of puff-puff-give leads to, well, the reason the liberal arts on the university level are seen as worthless clownshoe operations.*

and when it comes down to it, the parasite model - ignoring deeper instinctive fears of raptors and other simian predators - can be used to describe any invasive force. it could be seen as a parable about fears of japan taking over america** - an alien force whose very existence requires american deaths. it also fits in well with the totalizing narratives of anti-capitalist writers - the corporate force in this case is willing to destroy human lives to capture the ultimate marketer; one whose product is not only completely parasitic but completely fatal and transformative.

no doubt there's a whole slew of potential slottings from the mid-1980s you can roll with. even aids, perhaps, but gay rape? that strikes me as a bit too der sturmer for my tastes.

*connecting to my totally worthless narrative and keeping with the egyptian/crowley theme, i forgot who does our lovely isis reborn take off with? a cat - bast. another female goddess. generative fertility, repressed ferocity, defender of the ultimate generator of life - the sun. of course, this paints me into a corner seeing as the sun was not only male but ultra-male, and solar mythologies are almost always male and generative, just as chthonic forces were almost always female and receptive/birthing in nature. of course, the bonus in literary circles is that peoples' knowledge of the mythology you're latching onto are generally surface-level at best, so you have several options going forward depending on the prejudices of your audience - my appeal is really entirely emotional as it lacks intellectual content to a staggering degree. which is a tremendous problem, and will no doubt become a larger portion of the non-technical ludology programs that will only continue to grow in popularity, just as cinema studies is now very light on technical knowledge and, well, let us not speak of literature.***

**yet another wildly popular scare narrative that went absolutely nowhere. keep this in mind when you read stories about how the chinese are buying up america, just like the japanese were; of course it also ignores huge foreign holders like UK and canadian firms, but they're not the scary other.

***to borrow a british-ism, the reason this gets on my tits is because the liberal arts are very fucking important.

It should be made clear that dhex is talking about the theory propositioned by film critic Mark Kermode that the film 'Alien' plays on the male fear of homosexual rape.

I don't have any reason to suppory in the gay rape angle on Alien beyond the fact that

1.) someone on TV said it so it must be true

2.)

Also the title of the thread refers to the fact that dhex is high from the drug 'marijuana', an activity I do not condone

I could see it.

I always thought it was more of a fear-of-pregnancy thing anyway.

I saw it as essentially genderless, though rape nonetheless. In any case it's invasive, and certainly the fear of what lays beyond made material in one of the most primal ways possible: Mindless, aggressive, violating and relentless.

You simply can't reason with the hostile void of space.

That's that settled. Next topic: It's 7pm. My 67-year old father is right now battling GlaDOS for the first time. At what time will he have defeated her? Closest guess wins the prize.

/you know, John Carpenter's The Thing really is more based on overt homophobia than Alien, which as Dracko said doesn't make gender such an important part of the horror experience.

Yeah, gender is much more of a deal in The Thing, especially considering the only female in the movie gets killed off within the first 5 minutes or so.

It's a word that describes a sensation not unlike love, but for men who have resigned themselves to the fact that they will never ever lay with a woman. Achieved through RealDolls and frequenting Maid Cafes and hella, hella Lolicon. Guess which country that concept comes from.

Tip: one of the few countries in the world whose population is actually in decline because so few people are actually getting laid.

No! A country who used to be a fearsome, rapacious land of violent jerks but are now through their post-war emasculation a nation of repressed manchildren!

Alright, one last time. You must know what country I'm talking about here. Little group of islands. All their live-action films are terrible, their pop music is awful and their television programs incomprehensible! There's only one it could be!

the most sadistic of the three stooges, for starters.

that's pretty sadistic too.

Quote:
moe. Cruise

From March 7, 2004 until March 14, 2004, moe. embarked on their first musical cruise aboard the Norwegian Sun through Les and Lynn Berger of Rhythms at Sea Cruises (formerly Rock the Boat Cruises). Setting out from Miami, FL, the Norwegian Sun visited Jamaica, The Cayman Islands, Costa Maya, and Cozumel before returning back to Florida. The band performed each day except for the 12th on the pool deck, Stardust Lounge, and the Observation Lounge. The shows on the 10th in the Observation were acoustic sets and featured questions and answers with the band.

In January 2007, the band returned for its second cruise, again through Les and Lynn Berger of Rhythms at Sea Cruises. The cruise took place January 7, 2007 through January 14, 2007 on the Norwegian Jewel. Fans were treated to a different itinerary this time: the ship headed east out of Miami and hit the ports of San Juan (Puerto Rico), St. John's (Antigua), and St. Thomas (US Virgin Islands). Unfortunately due to rough seas, the ship did not port at Great Stirrup Cay (Bahamas).
