man this is fucking crazy:

http://www.laweekly.com/eat+drink/dining/the-bacon-wrapped-hot-dog-so-good-its-illegal/18276/

first off, bacon wrapped hot dog = gross

but second off, making it illegal is even more gross.

I've had one of those, outside of E3 a couple years ago. When the cops showed up, the carts totally melted away into the crowd.

It was delicious.

The article didn't get into detail about food safety regs.

It looks like pompous yuppie harassment of the unwashed, but the actual regs may make some kind of sense.

Man, there is a restaurant in downtown cleveland that takes a huge all beef hotdog, cuts it down the middle, stuffs cheese in there, and wraps bacon around it, and then puts it on a wonderful bun. Oh so tasty. Oh so godawful for you.

part of it is that he is just plain photogenic. hillary is not. hence you're going to have better photos of him, even with his mouth open.

i don't know if that's all of it, of course.

so to continue on that whole ANONYMOUS V. SCIENTOLOGY thing...

is there anything even remotely related to anime that's not totally fucking soul-destroying and ultimately destructive for our culture in general? i mean, i started the whole har har soul cancer thing as a joke but apparently i am a goddamn fucking sage. i'm off to go play lotto now because apparently i have psychic powers beyond anything previously imagined.

seriously, is it the cartoons or the japan or the combination of both or what? i want to know because then maybe we can stop this before it fully destroys america. were all their older brothers unavailable for wedgie-giving?

is it the same with all kinds of sci-fi and other marginal entertainments? i know plenty of record nerds of varying degrees of intellect but none of them seem to form pods of stupid like this. it's fucking baffling is what it is.

man, it's stuff like that which makes me think even evola had a point.

edit: ok, so let's roll with the evola thing. perhaps this is partially a result of the meeting of a hyperindividualistic, uncentered culture with the mindspace - pyschosexual poo-flings - of an eastern culture far more totalistic than anything we have in the west. combined with a social space that's largely devoid of the trappings of physical social spaces - i.e. getting arrested and/or butt raped for playing with kiddie porn, cartoon or not - and we have the end result - widespread fuckfacery.

alternate explanation: people need to get their fucking asses kicked more often to help recenter their explorations in the syncretic mindspace into the here and now. like building a damn, working in a soup kitchen or making wiccans read books of actual scholarship and depth, this could be considered a public service of the highest order.

http://westernstandard.blogs.com/shotgun/2008/02/charges-dropped.html

i don't trust people who refer to steyn as a "journalist" rather than "foamy ideologue" but maybe this is a step in the right direction for canada. maybe assholes are needed to fight assholes, legally, so as to help move things away from government repression.

especially in the guise of verbal hurt. that's a deadly inroad, because it is so unquantifiable.

the story title is lame as hell, but the content is sorta interesting.

(i think it has more to do with cultural attitudes towards work than anything else)

I thought it interesting enough to update my never-used blog. I figure there's no point arguing with any of the particular quotes, since they're cherry-picked from a whole bunch of textbooks, but needless to say if they're generally representative then, just, wow, man.

I love reading H&R responses sometimes, because it's always basically:
Everyone: "Ha ha what idiots free market free market!"
Joe: "Some irrelevant fact that would be evidence against you if you didn't know anything about statistical regression or other, related facts."
Everyone: "Wait, we don't know anything about statistical regression or other, related facts. Your fact confuses us, Joe! Quit trolling!"
Everyone including Joe: "Shitfight."

I read as far as:

Quote:
Yeah, and Great Britain isn't even a country name, it's an island.

And then stopped.

DEMAND KURVE!

yeah joe used to say interesting things. then about a year and a half ago something went weird. maybe it was too much time around his republican twin john (the meletary loier whoo kant sphell) or maybe his wife turned off the sex faucet or something. i don't know what the deal is but he's basically insufferable now.

which is fine because the DEMAND KURVE kids are pretty fucking bad too. i'm just there to be a dick in music threads, really.

man i got a counterfeit bill last night at a libertoid meetup at revival, that bar down by irving plaza.

bah.

for some reason on the train this morning, i thought back to a hit and run "conversation" from before i got married. i was castigated by a "rational atheist" whose typically irrational behavior was pushed by my mention of going through pre cana because my wife wanted to get married in a catholic church. apparently i was collaborating with the enemy.

i tried to correct him by saying "no, no, i'm sleeping with the enemy, there's a difference." but it was for naught.

since i'm reading a rational irrationalist (evola) and at the most irrational part of the book - jumping off from how the feminizing influence of cultural decadence has taken transcendent male virility and turned it into the illusion of phallic control (i.e. you are controlled by that which you desire) and going all the way into soft-boned giants from hyperborrea type genetic memory nonsense - it's struck me that i'm even more wary of the people who live supposedly rational lives. at least i know, going in, that evola is a nutbag of sorts with flashes of tremendous insight.

a truly rational atheist would no more get angry at being a minority within a majority than a fish would get mad at the sea for being larger. this doesn't mean not resisting social pressures, if they exist, or especially legal restrictions (if there are any). but being angry that some people have a metaphysical system that's more totalizing than your own?

that's nuts.

As laughably misguided France is, I'd rather be there at this point considering the situation in the UK.

Better food, for one.

Still, it's horrifying trying to have a dialogue with a Frenchman in this day and age.

well, both left and right are generally deeply uncomfortable with demographic change, if not actively hostile, because it is an unknown quantity.

the protectionism is typical parochialism; whereas racially-motivated protectionism is a more mystical narrative.

jane fonda said cunt on tv!

oh wait that's irrelevant and silly.

edit: it's so irrelevant and a non-issue even the normally head-slappingly dumb pandragon crew is basically on the money:
http://pandagon.blogsome.com/2008/02/14/6738/

that cunt poem in there is absolutely knee-slappingly hilarious, though it does make me sad that people think social change comes via words alone, as if words have magic powers in and of themselves.

this just in: words are not magic. context is magic.

double edit: somewhat related, but good news instead of bad.

oh to hell with children. they're dumb and unable to care for themselves until about 15 years of work have been put in. and even then they're so socially obsessed that they have the self-will of a bag of donuts.

hey this is a neat story:

http://www.csmonitor.com/2008/0211/p13s02-wmgn.html

Quote:
Alone on a dark gritty street, Adam Shepard searched for a homeless shelter. He had a gym bag, $25, and little else. A former college athlete with a bachelor's degree, Mr. Shepard had left a comfortable life with supportive parents in Raleigh, N.C. Now he was an outsider on the wrong side of the tracks in Charleston, S.C.

But Shepard's descent into poverty in the summer of 2006 was no accident. Shortly after graduating from Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., he intentionally left his parents' home to test the vivacity of the American Dream. His goal: to have a furnished apartment, a car, and $2,500 in savings within a year.

rpg titles where women wear plate armor with boobs on them - odd or truly deranged?

(and no i'm not ripping on the witcher for once)

not that one should expect an actual plate armor simulator in every game, but a) you can usually tell a character's sex by the hair, face and voice so it's not like the player really needs the extra cues and b) wouldn't taking a gently curved surface and creating two highly stressed cones basically defeat the entire point of having chest armor in the first place?

this might just be due to the whole "seven habits of marginally-effective chainmail bikini fantasy artists" legacy, though.

if you have even marginally complicated taxes, you may find the tax organizer linked in this posting from twc useful.

not that one should expect an actual plate armor simulator in every game, but a) you can usually tell a character's sex by the hair, face and voice so it's not like the player really needs the extra cues and b) wouldn't taking a gently curved surface and creating two highly stressed cones basically defeat the entire point of having chest armor in the first place?

this might just be due to the whole "seven habits of marginally-effective chainmail bikini fantasy artists" legacy, though.

Real plate armor suits were usually custom made, but real women didn't wear them. (Except for Joan of Arc, but that was probably just for show or painted in later.)

It's a genre convention.

From Metropolis to Rumple Minze.

C3PO?

This is something that has been brought up for at least a couple of decades.
Many fantasy gamers find it annoying but the ones who need to be punched in the face love this shit. I imagine it's the same munchkins who want infinite leveling and lots of attention to "Epic" skills/feats/lewt. I hate them and I am convinced that the quality of CRPGs would be much higher without their demographic.

i guess the question then comes up as to how much of the audience do they comprise?

niche markets have it rough sometimes. captivity via fandom is one of those rough patches.

semi-related: i think i am looking forward to age of decadence, and no matter how it turns out, will buy a copy.

though i find myself wondering why a civilization like that would have a fixation on the concept of decadence by that very word. generally that shit gets blamed on outsiders.
