This is one of my all-time favorite sites. It's been gone for years, but it's still available through archive.org.

Note the sesame cake section.

Last night I watched the possum that lives in the roof of my house scrounge through the gutters on the shed for like half an hour and I was mesmerized the entire time. Possums are night squirrels so this is relevant to this discussion.

Breaking news: We have at least one squirrel in our attic. We hear it running around and probably damaging things. I just put a trap up there (the kind that does not hurt the animal) and we'll see how that goes. I don't yet know whether there is a nest.

Could it be rats?
Or bats?
Feral cats?

Raccoons?

Leave water, it may be trapped.

edit:
Jan-march.
Probably dead by now if it was trapped.

It was definitely a squirrel. I'd seen it once in the attic and we also figured out where it was entering the house.

There was some water damage to a soffit and it had chewed a hole. Once, when I was pretty sure it was outside, I put wire mesh over the hole. The next morning, it had made another hole next to the patch.

A few days later, when I again was pretty sure it was outside, I used a bigger patch. This time, I covered all of the water-damaged area. It has tried to get back in since, but has not been able to. It still runs along the fence in that area sometimes, unless I am confusing it with other squirrels.

I was afraid that there might be a nest up there, but I searched pretty thoroughly and did not find one.

The End
