i'm really excited about it. it's going to be compatible with the ds paddle controller, which is releasing with arkanoid ds next week. (arkanoid and the paddle can be bought seperately, by the way.)

ALSO, they finally replaced the terrible cover art for beggar prince.

lawrence and co have translated the comic included with the famicom disk sytem.

NFG wrote:
When Nintendo released their Famicom Disk System they included with every unit two manuals: One with an adult-oriented description of the system, its functionality and so on. They also included a kid-friendly comic that detailed not only how the system should be used and the things you shouldn't do, but also the inner workings of the device. Included were cutaway drawings, explanations of magnetic media, troubleshooting advice, flying space aliens with tails and the obligatory hot foreign woman to ensure the reader was paying attention.

Naturally we couldn't let a gem like this languish in Japanese.

art design in team fortress 2. nothing new if you've read the pdf, but laid out with some nice concept art. found through rock, paper, shotgun.

Did I mention how ridiculous i find it that the design team keep citing Norman J. Dinkleheimer and P.J. Winklewurst and all these 100-year-old illustrators I've never heard of as the inspiration for TF2's art design when it's obvious to anybody with eyes that they just looked at Pixar's The Incredibles and decided to copy it?

By the way, I just got my Wii back! The Mii Contest channel is (o^^)b

I entered the Robinson Crusoe contest. I'M GONNA WIN, TOO

The Leyendecker referencing doesn't seem that ridiculous when you see the initial concept art, the Pixarish look seems to have appeared in the process of refining the models. It does seem like an elephant in the room though.

It's not that they referenced Dinkleheimer and Winklewurst and Wangdangdoodle in the sense of proportions for their characters (which is very Incredibles-esque) I agree, but in terms of strong shading, industrial thematics and apparently (so they claim) a strong emphasis on clothing folds. Which I have to admit I can kind of see, but I also think they're certainly far too quick to point to these old illustrators when there are other, stronger emphases.

I must say I think the character designs in TF2 are nothing short of brilliant.

Man, those other people's Robinson Crusoes are so bad. I'm gonna walk this contest.

Ok, so there was a Steam Client Update and I don't fully understand what this means:
"Added an in-game third-party CD key display for games without automatic Steam key integration"

please help me on this.

What engine are they using now? I can't remember if it's DooM 3 or Unreal 3.

I'd still buy it if it came out tomorrow Sad

That could actually be edited down to a really good trailer, but with all the overly exaggerated acting/motion combined with the length makes it seem very tedious. It's a shame because if that was trimmed into a 30-45 second trailer it'd be really good, but it's kind of killed by its own ambition.

Holy crap! After being on my list of "e-mail me when the price goes down" games at Play Asia for something like 2 years, Blokus Club: featuring Bumpy Trot is coming out in the US by Majesco. Insane.

Too bad this link makes it look horrible:

I'm still pumped!

Ok that Duke Nukem Forever teaser does not fill me with confidence. The game appears to be all one colour, a little bit like Doom 3. Also, remember when 3DRealms got lambasted by Bruce Campbell for nicking his catchphrases? Well, the trailer reveals our first glance at their own efforts at writing such iconic dialogue, namely:

3DRealms wrote:

What does that even mean?

Man, (Solid) Kirby fucking owns.

Oh shit, I want to see the Sonic version.

As to Duke: They've got an ungodly budget and can more or less afford to take asmuch time as they care to. So either it will be stunning or one of the biggest, saddest jokes in the industry.

But hey, Team Fortress 2 was vapourware once too.

If you bought the introversion pack last week it was only $20. I bought it fully expecting to get Defcon to gift out to someone else, but it turns out I just got to pay for it twice...

yay!

Also, i bought STALKER from this sale.

The Neptune is alive and kicking!

Actually, that's kind of an awesome mod, although not really worth the effort since so few interesting/good 32X games exist.

I'm not even sure what the hell is supposed to happen in that game now. It would be pretty neat if it converted your lines into landscapes though.

Honestly I remember wondering how line rider was going to make it as a console game anyways, considering that it's basically just a physics toy.

Or is this a pandering to nerds thing?

Normally I don't agree with more than like 20% of what Yatzee has to say, but with SH: Origins, I pretty much am 100% with him.

Wow! It's the true genesis of Warioware!

Speaking of 64DD, did you know Doshin the Giant was originally supposed to have a spherical world like the ones in Mario Galaxy? That would have been pimp.
