I have not played many of these!

Certain of them seem very interesting, though... very interesting indeed!

Manhole is there!

There may be a sequel post in the (distant) future.

That first one is STUNTCOPTER, by the by.

Holy shit this makes me want to go fire up the ol' Macintosh Plus in the shed and play through the Scarab of Ra again. And then Spectre. Damn, but polygons were fun back then.

Anyone else remember the awesome Spacestation Pheta?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spacestation_Pheta

EDIT: Scarab of Ra, not Tomb of Ra

I sure do! That would feature in the sequel post!

Also, it was the Scarab of Ra! One of my favourite games.

Totally! I realised after I wrote it that I got the name wrong. Man that game used to freak me the fuck out as a kid. The mummies were just so fucking relentless but I wanted that scarab, I wanted it so bad. It was all worth it!

Did you know you could actually use the Scarab against the Guardians?

Also, I've only managed to beat the game twice!

I didn't know for a long time too, and just ran. You have to be careful though, use it too much and it will dissapear rendering you helpless and unable to win the game. They can also still sneak up on you and kill you with one shot if you're low on health!

Also, I should get a custom title!

God I love the use of black and white in Mac games.

Minotaur was Bungies first commercial game, which they self-published and sold at trade shows. It's main draw was that it was a networkable dungeon crawler, became quite a hit in offices. Not much of a single-player game going on. There is a sword called "Durandal".

Elevators is "Social Climber", it's a simple arcade game that I think might be based on another game, but you start at the bottom and have to traverse each floor in order to get to the top of the building while avoiding elevators. Addictive, plus I so loved the artwork.

Warren is uhh... Operation Firestorm or the other game in the same series, roguelikes I played the hell out of when I was younger that are still fun today.

I remember this game!! My dad used to look after me on weekends, and one day he had to work on a Sunday, so he took us in with him. The doors to his work area (he was a computer technician at the County Council offices) were computer controlled, which impressed me no end as a 6-year-old. Anyway so I had a look what games they had on their supercomputers, and this was one of them. It's a space-launch simulator, so each of those four rooms leading off the plaza give you a bunch of options that will affect the launch, like amount of fuel, crew, etc. So I did all this and had my dad show me how to blast off, and then I was just treated to a picture of space.

Me: When are we going to get to the planet??

Dad: In three months, it's real-time.

:(

I'd like to know what the game was called so I can check it out and see if he was joking.

That's Starflight!

It's more like Star Control 2 than a space launch simulator.

edit: rather Star Control 2 is more like it than it is like a space launch simulator.

Armor Alley was so rad. I was sad when crack dot com went under, because Golgotha was supposed to be a modern successor. On the same note, I really wanted Sanctity to come out, it sounded super-awesome.

I also played (and owned!) Jump Raven, but never really played any of the other Cyberflix games such as Dust, and the Piratey one that Cycle posted a screenshot of, and (luckily) Bonecracker or whatever their fighting game was called. And Lunicus.Though I played demos of all of them.

Jump Raven was sweet though! Too bad I lost my copy.

I had Starflight II (with its starmap copy protection) also...fun times (though not as fun as Star Control 2 which I would play later on the 3DO of all things).

I was always kind of bummed that I never got to play Spectre over a network. I owned Spectre VR for the PC, which came in a seriously kick-ass box that sadly is lost to the mists of time. Also sadly lost to the mists of time is the terrible cyberpunk novella that passed for its manual. God, I wish I could find a copy of that.

Spectre over a network was good times. I never played with more than one other person, that was still great fun though.

Another game that's missing: Bolo.

Makings of a Computer Game Box thread? I nominate Spectre and its derivatives, Marathon and its sequels, and pretty much all the sweet-ass Novalogic boxes (in the old days).

MF'in Bolo! Stuart Cheshire is the man. A few people I know idolize him enough to have prompted some probably totally unexpected celebrity-worship moments when they finally ran into him in person. Quite amusing...

Also, all these new screens are from my old mac thread at IC; none of them are new.

It's Quagmire, I remember now. A totally freaking great game. I can't remember the hours I wasted listening to the delightful squeaking wheels as he jumped around.

The collision was pretty dodgy and I died a lot but I had fun!

Holy fuck is that Citadel? I spent like a million goddamn hours playing that game when I was a kid. I even had some huge strategy guide thing for it and instead of just being a strategy guide it was a story about some party that went through the dungeon. I never beat this game, I always got killed by some fucking hugeass dragon thing.

Also this:

Looks like some sort of awesome cyberpunk game. Please tell me it is some sort of awesome cyberpunk game.

Never had a Mac back in the day.

Random and not particularly pointful observations:

the high-rez nature of Macs really led to these cool little detailed graphics. A very distinct look, but it doesn't ALWAYS work in the Macs favor, I think some games like DOOM and Wing Commander did better at the lower-rezs.

I was kind of jealous of the Ambrosia Software games, they always looked gorgeous.

There was a kick-ass version of Risk back in the day, b+w. Also that one game, sometimes called "Weslyan" tetris that would offer annoying comments ("nice slide" when you did a last minute horizontal move) and cheat (with a "neener neener neener" sound) by removing blocks.

And "MOVOD" which was one of the first times I saw Dilbert I think.

And this one charming little solitare variant, I think "Wish".
