the new mutant empire game is indeed pretty swish, i was dissapointed when it turned out level progression is LINEAR unlike smash tv, but hey, apart from that it seems quite swell from my brief time with the demo. some of my problems from the original game looks like they might still be around, though.

dess you are the resident pinball queen, what do you think of PINBALL FX.

Mutant Storm Empire is fantastic. I noted that one of the acheivments was to complete the whole game without dieing on Black Belt so I tried to play the first level on black belt an... holy hell. I can't see myself getting that for a while and anyone who does I commend you. Pretty great XBLA game.

Well, Mario himself has confirmed that Super Mario Bros. 3 is coming out for the Wii VC tomorrow. I figured it would either be tomorrow or next Monday, but I'm grateful to be excited for something that isn't supposed to be played on my currently dead Xbox.

Gonna trade in some stuff and buy me a Wii Points card tomorrah! It's a-me! The greatest game of all time-io!

Oh, and to get you stoked: that frickin' pants-wettingly awesome Mario 3 commercial from back in the day. That thing gave me goosebumps for months.

AARRGHHH! Come back to me, Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiii! All of my trade-in credit is going towards Mario stuff now - 3 and Galaxy. I really want Super Mario RPG though - get on that, Nintendo people.

That writeup is kind of... ill-informed and boring. Mario 3 is great and all, and probably worth a download, but we've all played it to death by now, and all owned it at some point. The real news is Alien Soldier -- and I don't even like the game much! Still, another legendary Treasure game that was never released in North America. That is news. Yet another retread of one of the best-selling games in history isn't, particularly.

"OH MY FUCKING GOD! THEY JUST ISSUED A NEW PRINTING OF CATCHER IN THE RYE!!!"

I don't know anything about Power Golf, so I can't comment there. Maybe it's amazing somehow. Maybe it's just a golf game.

I take my Mario with a yellow cape however I can get it, sir. Despite enjoying the game a bunch, I don't own it in any form, so a VC release is perfect for me.

Only tanooki tails here.

I still think Nintendo missed a trick by not having Mario really glide the Tanuki way.

Anyway, my point stands. Super Mario 3 is more or less obligatory for anyone with even a passing interest in Nintendo games. Its availability in yet another form is hardly news; it's an inevitability. Yeah, they finally bothered to put it up. Great, might as well download it. Not much to really say here. Alien Soldier, though -- that's worth actually talking about.

I don't mean to dismiss anyone's personal interest in the game (hey, it's one of my favorites too); I'm just criticizing Joystiq's journalistic intuition. It... kind of says a lot, really, about a lot of things.

Ah, I didn't even follow the link up there. I put Joystiq next to Destructoid on my list of websites to never visit less I want to roll my eyes and sigh heavily.

Wow, Alien Soldier, Power Golf, and Mario 3 all in one week? Amazing!

Actually I sort of agree with Aderack on this one as well. Mario 3 isn't huge news except that people who haven't played it will now get the chance. Personally, after playing the GBA version I can never go back. I love the fact that you can get the cape and there are actually brand new levels! Nothing pisses me off more about Nintendo than watching them silently cancel almost all of the Mario 3 e-reader cards. If they released a decked out version of GBA Mario 3 on VC than I could forgive them, but for now I'm going to protest by not buying any VC games this week!

(Is Power Golf an Neo Geo golf game? Because that might change my mind...)

How much room do you have left on your Wii? I think I'm pretty much out of space now...

I don't want a hard drive, but if they would write software that would automatically archive the stuff you haven't been using to your SD card, but leave it on the screen and pull it back out when you want to play it that would be amazing.

I have a handful of games that won't copy over to my SD card. Is there any way around that? I believe it's Military Madness and the Lost Levels that refuse to; a few others brought up error messages when copying but still copied over.

Not as well as on a PS2 with a saturn controller! Or a stick!

But still pretty good.

And yeah, Power Golf is just another golf game, haha.

as in, you leave an SD card in the wii at all times, it automatically archives anything you haven't played in ~2 weeks to said SD card, yet leaves the channel on the menu, and streams it back to your console when you select it, making the whole business as seamless as possible.

What it lacks in varied gameplay it makes up for in intriguing backstory.

No wait, it doesn't. (What was it, something like miners are angry about losing their job to automation, so they use their BASE jumping skills to exact revenge on their previous employers? I think I would have preferred a pretty, outdoor, Pilotwings like setting and been informed that "in the future, people have gotten really bored, and this is one of the dumb X-treme sports they came up with.")

I didn't even make it down far enough to throw dynamite, or whatever the hell I was supposed to do.

I finished the first level to see if maybe the second level was interesting.

It wasn't.

I just had a dream that Atari Jaguar games were added to the Virtual Console, except the first lineup consisted entirely of ports of really bad Star Trek games originally made for the Amiga.

Everything I read about the game described it as a multiplayer arcade game. What did you read that made you think otherwise, and why is it bad?

yeah, i mean, I love robotron as much as the next guy (OR GIRL), but the control scheme doesn't have to be used in every damn game.

I remember when the Xbox was launched I watched a report which featured J. Allard (?) skateboarding through the corridors at his workplace and making sure he was filmed playing an original Robotron machine to show that it's 'all about the gameplay'. Obviously he meant that more literally than I thought!

Yeah, was that "Geometry Wars" that reintroduced the scheme? There was Robotron, then Smash TV, then a few Robotron remakes, and now this batch.

I guess part of the thing is... it's damn easy to write. And/Or designers are like "woohoo! 2 control sticks!"

that does look good. Don't see why they didn't just expand the play area to fill the screen, though. Wouldn't have changed that much.

Without seeing it on video, it looks like the screen will get terribly cluttered.

Color me ridiculously psyched!

Also, Omega Five looks really good and was apparently developed by the same people responsible for Wild Guns. I wonder when that's coming out.

That's actually way better than the video they released on XBLM. Way way better. The first video I saw of Omega Five made it look kind of dumb but now it looks pretty rad!

Asteroids Deluxe is awesome. There's a retro arcade in my neighborhood that has both Asteroids and Deluxe. AD is worlds better if for no other reason than you get a shield rather than hyperspace - which is a total crapshoot.

I downloaded the demo and it's way too short. One level? I guess everyone knows what Asteroids is, though. The evolved mode seemed pretty crappy to me. Overall it seems OK. I'd probably go for it if I had 400 points just sitting around and nothing else jumped out at me.

So SWOS went up for a couple of hours today. Then it got taken down because its net code is apparently totally fucked up. I guess I'm wondering why this is the case after all those months of delays and Microsoft's rigorous cert process for xbla games, at this point.

They're claiming that it's because the wrong version of SWoS got uploaded.

Emphasis on "claiming".

How's the version of Tempest?

I'm pretty stoked about that honestly.

completely unnecessary? given that tempest already has an amazing console update and xbox live arcade already has an incredible tube shooter.

I don't have the console update, and SG is not Tempest.
