And everyone seems to get the impression I'm "bashing" the GameCube controller. What? _________________

I wouldn't pay too much attention to that. If those guys were smart they wouldn't be posting in the comments of video game articles.
As for that Street Fighter comment, The Gamecube had SNK vs. Capcom Chaos. Also, that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. Like the standard for videogame control systems should be a game with 6 fucking attack buttons.
Oh yeah, the final Iwata Asks is out: It's an interview with Miyahon.
http://uk.wii.com/software/interviews/mario_galaxy/vol4/index.html
He says the 'essence of Mario' is to have the form serve the function entirely: where items exist purely because of their relationship to Mario, and the way they look is designed first and foremost to communicate their relationship to Mario to the player. He's previously described Mario as being a series where there is a 1:1 cause-and-effect relationship between the player's actions and what the game gives back to the player. It's funny because his games still don't do this, 100%: kind of makes you want to go out and design a videogame. |

Yeah. I've still got the recent volley open in another tab that I've not gotten around to yet. Just... so long!
The thing which perplexes me about comments like that is that it's not like any of my articles are flawless. There's a lot to pick apart if you want to. And hey, this is an industry site; it's not 1up or whatever. So you'd expect... a certain kind of criticism, you know? So getting GameFAQs responses both amuses and bewilders me. There's not a lot you can do but point and laugh -- which isn't... really how I want to be replying to the responses I get. I've done too much of that.
Woh! The kind of thing I type after rolling out of bed.
Anyway, I've a few other things like this stored up in the NextGen buffers. And a couple more I've yet to write. I've something for GamaSutra that I, uh, really need to finish sometime. I'm not sure what's going on with that. _________________

Really it is. I only use Street Fighter/KOF to test out D-pads.
Being able to straddle the 0.1 line in Super Monkey Ball in Advanced Round 11 on GameCube is all I need to know the controllers real strength.
I can't do that level on the PS2 and Xbox versions. Their analogs are terrible for such precision. |

If I'm remembering correctly, the d-pad and z-button were unfortunate last minute concessions to angry gamers. _________________ Straight up |

I know that z-button was. Still hate that button, it's so uncomfortable to press.
Though I thought it was more due to developers whining about it since they couldn't port ps2 games as lazily to a console with less buttons. |

It's pretty cool as a 'map' button, though. I like the noise it makes when you press it in Metroid Prime.
Most people hated it because the 'Z button' was the name of the trigger button on the N64 pads and it got unfairly compared to that, when actually it's more like the select button. |

Honestly, if that wasn't labeled a sex scene, I would of had no idea what just happened there. That scene doesn't even make sense, the "sex" flys out of nowhere. It's like, "Hey, today I'm gonna go to the store, you want anything." "Ummm, I dunno, what do you want?" "Oooooh baby, you know what I want..." SMOOCHAN TIMES. It'd make more sense if she was killing the blue alien. |

That clip would actually make sense if you put party sounds effects in the background and implied that they were really, really, drunk. |

it's a step up from fear effect 2, but it's an incredibly stilted seduction and i can't imagine any reason for it to be there beyond titillating players. _________________

Winged Assassins, have you ever been to the US?
I can't imagine that anything other than Halo 3, Pokemon Diamond/Pearl, and maybe Mario Galaxy or Call of Duty 4 outselling Madden. It's a beast of a sports franchise. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |

I really can't be fucked with any choose-your-own-adventure book that requires me to have pencils and paper and die.
The best one of those books I ever read was You Can Be The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison which I had as a kid. It was awesome!
The game sounds excellent, though! It sounds like they're really taking a fresh look at what need to be done to make FPS games better. That combat system sounds excellent- looking straight ahead and pressing left fire punches with the left fist. Right fire punches with the right. Looking down and pressing punch executes an uppercut! That's one of those ideas that's so good that it's amazing no-one's thought of it before. If you develop that concept further it'll allow for incredibly nuanced fighting systems in FPSes controllable with just two buttons and a mouse. |

Reposted from the Xbox live tag thread.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=moACcQEUfsE
From the above commercial, it's clear that 'Wii Fit' is meant to be a play on 'Wii Feet', a bit like how the 'rub' in Project Rub and The Rub Rabbits is a play on the similarity between the words 'love' and 'rub' to Japanese people, this being relevant to the game's dual themes of love and rubbing. Obviously these words are nothing alike to native english speakers, which is why they had to rename the game to 'Feel The Magic'.
If they wanted to preserve the pun overseas in this case they'd have to call it Wii Trainer(s).
EDIT: OR WII FEETNESS |

Every time I hear of Rub Rabbits, I think of that female masturbation tutorial for the DS that uses a euphemistic rabbit as its object. Lapis?

This Toronto mod for Half-Life 2 by local students has me really, really excited. My wife's installing Boot Camp on her iMac this weekend, so maybe I can actually play it at some point. |

While reading the Karateka Wikipedia entry, I found this:
Quote: | A hack of the Apple IIGS version of the game existed. The player simply watched the game unfold as a movie, with added, often profane, text. |
Anyone have a video of this? _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

I don't know why this was so compelling, but the news thread needed a little bit of cheer to brighten up the colder months (for the northern hemispherers, at least).
It's a really sweet little blog post. It makes me miss Harveyjames's dad playing Twilight Princess. _________________ Like you thought you'd seen copter perverts before. They were nothing compared to this one. |
