The fun doesn't start until tomorrow, but I'm as giddy as ever, waiting for all the announcements, photos, podcasts and whatnot. Why not make this thread your dumping grounds for thoughts, links, exclamations and commentary over the next few days.

According to 1up's E3 page, the general schedule is as follows:

Microsoft
Tuesday 10th at 8:30 PM PST
Microsoft shows new 360 games, Halo 3's single-player, and more!

Nintendo
Wednesday 11th at 9:00 AM PST
Nintendo shows Metroid Prime 3, Super Mario Galaxy, and more!

Sony
Wednesday 11th at 11:30 AM PST
Sony reveals Killzone 2, shows Metal Gear Solid 4, and more!

Oh I hope.

I'm mostly just looking forward to GTA IV coverage this year, but everything Lestrade mentioned is relevant to my interests as well.

This is what I'm hoping against hope for, although the businessman inside me thinks that this won't happen until everyone's bought the game for PS3 first. Granted, Sony recently said that they "don't deal in exclusives," so here's hoping they're short-sighted enough to think the same way with MGS4!

GOD I can't wait. I love the E3 rush.

Can anybody link me to a good site that's gathering all the E3 business into a nice section that I can check and refresh now and then?

Quote regarding an XBLA demo:

"They're showing off a bunch of XBLA titles, like Bomberman, Undertow, Hexic 2, World War, Geon, Wing Commander Arena, Feeding Frenzy 2, Track & Field, Golden Axe, Space Giraffe, Marathon Durandal, Tetris Splash, Puzzle Quest."

Supposedly Golden Axe and Sonic just went up.

EDIT: It's Sonic 2, according to dark steve.

I was just on and played both. It's Sonic 1 and Golden Axe. The Golden Axe might be the arcade though. It seems a lot nicer looking than I remember it and it's got a few more options than Sonic. Both feature sprite smoothing, which looks kinda like shit but also kind of neat, and Golden Axe features some kind of sound improvement option. I'm not sure what it was because I couldn't play too loud with the woman asleep.

My biggest complaint is that they're both straight emulation. I'd love for Sonic or Golden Axe to take up the full screen real-estate of a widescreen HD TV and for Sonic to have the option to turn on the duck and roll move from Sonic 2, but since they're just running a rom through a nice game-specific emulator they don't really have the option to add these kinds of things.

I ALMOST bought Sonic, since it's $5 and achievement points would encourage me to play through it again, but I keep remembering that there's no good reason to when I already own Sonic Jam for the Saturn.

You know you want those Achievement Points. Be the easiest duo of scores you'll be able to max out.

Bring me Fantasy Zone and maybe Clockwork Knight or Virtua On as a personal favor :P

I'd say that sprite smoothing for Sonic is a must; the default anti-aliasing just looks terrible. I'd rather have no pixels or full-on blocks o' death. I already own Sonic for VC, but to be honest, I don't think Sonic is very good, so I'm not really sure why I even bought any version of it.

The interface for these new Sega ports is nice, though; I like how quickly one can get to and from the options, and how the attract mode plays in a window while you fiddle around.

What kind of crazy upscaling is going on here? This looks pretty damn good for a 15(?)-year-old Mac game.

Dammit, dammit, dammit, I really can't buy an xbox, dammit.

Also, it doesn't look like upscaling, maybe for the textures, but the sprites (guns especially, but also the bodies) have been redone. Crosshair, and hud are different.

Wow wow wow. Considering my ramped up exercise routine these days (no really), Wii Fit is the best game news I've seen this year. This thing is so exciting. Also, imagine using it plus the new Zapper in some kind of awesome Time Crisis game?

Actually, I'm fairly excited about new Mario Kart with the Wiiiiiiiil. I really liked the arcade Mario Kart. The whole Wii plan is really coming together for me. I'm shooting people in RE4 with the Wiimote, I'm playing tennis with it, soon I'll be beefcaking my arms with it, and even driving, too. One hundred percent what I want from my games.

The Galaxy trailer is fucking awesome; thanks, Dess. The music is like a big warm hug, and I'm strangely excited about the they-must-have-been-high bee suit. It's just too wacked-out for words.

It's a-me! A bee!

There were community projects centered around the bungie-sponsored Aleph One open-source project to produce hi-res replacement assets. So, that's not an algorithm; that's many man-hours of hand-work.

I can't believe nobody here's mentioned Wii Fit. That looks insane. Not good as a game, but insanely good for Nintendo as a moneymaker.

The new PSP looks meh, except for I really think that video out to a TV is a superb idea. It makes it so that people with a PS2 and PSP might be likely to actually buy a PSP version over the PS2 one.

sony's gdc "keynote" / press release was really obnoxious, so, uh, i can only imagine their behavior at an actual press event must be even worse.

mario galaxy really looks swell. it's just running and jumping on platforms that just happen to be genuinely 3d objects. i wonder what ghost mario does.

Fuck, I'm so excited. I played SMB2 last night and relished in the 200% overproof FUN that entire game embodies. (it was actually the first time I didn't beat the game in one go in years, though. :-( ) Galaxy gives me the same feeling. It really is impressive, and I love the visual style.

Wii fit looks like Brain Age for the body. It's a great concept that's great for a lot of people and great for video games, but most of the stuff they demonstrated looks pretty boring. I liked Brain Age because I'm also into that kind of puzzley shit. I'm not into fitness at all, and I don't see how adding an admittedly really awesome piece of technology to fitness is going to make me want to work out daily.

So yeah, when I say I'm not pumped for it I mean "I" as in personally. I think it'll sell like a mother and rightfully so.

True. The hardcore community-whatever is already issuing a collective yawn, but this is definitely going to rake in tons of cash. By the time it arrives, it will probably be surrounded by a wave of me-too titles. And the NY Times is going to cover it multiple times.

Yeah, it's useless, innit? I mean, smaller and lighter (with video output) are great features, but that doesn't fix any of the flaws, does it? Not even Chewbacca can save the PSP now.

The PS3 needs UMD support so we can all let the PSP die quietly.

I'd also like to reiterate that Wii Fit is my GAME OF SHOW™ and I am very much excited by it. But I also exercise regularly and am interested in introducing exercise into everything I do as much as possible. Having a game in which to do it gives me extra incentive!

P.S. I showed the Wii Fit video on Nintendo's site to my friend and she was visibly impressed.

Mario Galaxy does look amazing, but it also looks exactly like what they've been showing off since the system was announced. I know that's kind of the point, but at every one of these shows we froth about it and at this point I just want to finally play the game and quit frothing.

Sony's press conference was kind of boring but I think in a lot of ways it was better than either of the other two.

The Xbox one was embarrassing. They tried to make announcements out of nothing, and it felt like they're almost too in touch with their community. Everything seemed like an inside joke of sorts.

The Nintendo one showed off the Zapper (a plastic piece of junk), a tiny steering wheel (another plastic piece of junk), and an AMAZING piece of technology that will probably only ever be used for one "game." I was hoping they'd announce something that would fill in the 8 month gap between quality Wii games or that they had come up with a solution to the Wii friend code system, or something else cool. But instead they announced Mario Kart Single Dash, a fitness game, and the fact that all of their good games are coming out between August and December. At least we'll have indie Wii games next year!

The Playstation one was sort of boring, but it was also totally focused on showing off how many games they had. It reminded me a lot of Sega's E3 shows during the Dreamcast days. They're finally showing that games are a priority. I actually want to play the games they showed off! Haze looks great! Infamous will be amazing! Killzone looks superb! Little Big Planet looks incredible! The acquisition of NC Soft seems pretty small, but it means they're taking both the online market and the Korean market very seriously. And the fact that they used Home to show off their games instead of a montage of newsweek clips really reinforces the versatility of what they're trying to accomplish.

Wii Fit's pretty amazing though.

new metal gear solid 4 trailer. guess which mgs2 boss inexplicably returns for a ludicrously erotic fight with raiden.

do we ever get to see actual gameplay footage of this game? actually, knowing kojima i wouldn't be surprised if metal gear solid 4 turned out to be basically a movie. it's what he's been getting at after all.
