I watched every episode of Let's Play La-Mulana. I thought DC was hilarious the entire time. All I can say about the Hell Temple is that the only thing more painful than watching it, right down to the horrible end, would have been playing it, and I'm glad I didn't. Sucks for that guy, though.

I showed a friend of mine the video where DC starts going insane in the hell temple, and he couldn't stand listening to him. So yes. Divided opinion!

tool-assisted video in which a single input file is used to play megaman 3, 4, 5 and 6 simultaneously, similiar to that x and x2 video i'm pretty sure i posted earlier in the thread. basically unwatchable! i watched for about three minutes before quitting in confusion.

this person is posting walkthrough videos of kirby super star (which is a better game than that other kirby snes game because that other kirby snes game is bludgeoningly slow-paced. wes).

this curiously-named youtube member has posted full videos of road avenger, the most playable fmv game ever, also apparently known as "road blaster" (which is also the name of an atari arcade title).

this is old but it has to be new to someone:

the "special movie" included with super smash bros. melee is probably the best example of developer-created machinima, but to avoid spoilers, it doesn't include any of the game's very many unlockable characters or arenas. a ragtag group of pixelantes took it upon themselves to create a supplementary video which includes the leftover features, and which is very much in the spirit of the original.

and speaking of machinima and stuff that is overdue for this thread, dimension of the gibbed and quake done quicker are probably the best examples of protean machinima to come out of the quake speedrunning community. both feature thoughtful camerawork.

I bloody love the Quake Done Quick replays. I loved how no matter how they got, in every speedrun the did they were always held up for about 1 whole minute by that gigantic Capcom beat 'em up-style elevator of death in episode 3. The whole thing is rendered ridiculous by the fact that you can rocket jump up on top of a wall fixture at the start and not even have to stand on the elevator where the monsters are, so you just have to think of ways of amusing yourself on a light fitting for a minute and a half. They made a running joke of it.

Also I remember the camera work in some of those things (including the recammed exhibition and clan matches) being like nothing else at the time. The editors had complete omnipresent, time travelling camera control, and could do whatever they like beyond the realms of possibility. This was before the Matrix! And of actual sporting events that happened! I was astounded by it.

Half-Life in half an hour. Full of speedrunny-type things like skipping various sections of the game and using Snarks and tripmines as ladders.

This is probably my favorite speedrun of all time. Watching him launch across vast portions of the game and skipping multiple chapters is just glorious for any fan. In some cases he doesn't even exploit any fancy weapon tricks, he just makes perfectly legitimate but unlikely jumps. Awesome.

My second favorite is Super Mario 64 100% in 2 hours, though it's more of a powerplay than a speedrun. (The actual speedrun, in 20 minutes, is of course also impressive.) It's made even better by the knowledge that he's not cheating. For a real kick, fastforward to about 41 minutes and watch 8 coins on Bowser's sub without using the moving grates. You'll never see more accurate wall-jumping.

this is a pretty hot video of contra: hard corps played with fang. there are a bunch of nice videos of hard corps on youtube, mostly of boss battles, but i think the game is better appreciated as a whole: you can see how all those amazing setpieces are strung together.

where are these ding dang videos of yours, jason moses?

here is a kind of neat video created for the penny arcade expo to promote speeddemosarchive.com. the video has basically nothing to do with the website, which is fine because most of the content of the website is pretty unnecessary.

There's that Raiden III replay I linked in the appropriate selectbutton thread. I was going to record a 1-credit clear of Elevator Action Returns but I got sidetracked. Eventually!

There are a couple guys from the Speed Demo Archives who hang out in #shmups now. I visit there about once a week, and one of the guy's said last night that "1-life clearing Metal Slug 3 is easy" without any irony or sarcasm. That's some perspective!

That really shows off how much variety there is in Half-Life's level design. I'd have been happy if it all looked like the very first couple of levels, and revolved around just shooting aliens and (if you're good enough) bringing Barneys to security doors for secret supplies.

I feel sick after watching that.

I love how, when the ending says he's "maybe the best of all time," it's probably right.

I uploaded a Necronomicon video to youtube! There are no videos depicting gameplay footage on youtube, oddly enough, so I figured I'd make a video demonstrating all of the modes in the Arkham Asylum table. It took a few games to get used to the lag from my capture device, but I think it turned out pretty well.

the asshole mario videos are pretty excellently edited. (edit: though they could stand to be a lot shorter.) the hack itself is diabolical too.

Two Marathon 2 videos! They are both PACIFIST plays, meaning he doesn't kill anything and only uses weapons for jumping. They are on the hardest difficulty.

The first is for the final level in the game, ALL ROADS LEAD TO SOL. In this level you are tasked to take out the juggernaut fleet, but as this play shows, you can also ignore them! Pretty amazing rocket jumps and stuff, has the map memorized, though he cuts it close at the end and screws up by hitting both switches at the end.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDvH0dvdpYw

This one is much more impressive, it's for the infamous level IF I HAD A ROCKET LAUNCHER, I'D MAKE SOMEONE PAY (and he totally ignores the rocket launcher!), the hardest level in the game by far, also known as WHAT THE LIBRARY IN HALO WOULD BE LIKE IF IT DIDN'T SUCK. It's an awesome level BUT ANYWAY, he manages to run through the level withouse using a single weapon, not even for jumping. Just ran like hell. This is hard to pull off, and he clearly has the map memorized... knows where all the spawns and what not. Very cool.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hgC6oTG4frs

Personally, I'd have more fun slaughtering everything thrown at me, but it's still cool to watch.

http://homepage3.nifty.com/shin3/yaricom/yaricom.htm

These a superplays, not speedruns. You can watch Shin get a 10-star rank in SH4, and watch no damage runs of SH3. If babelfish is translating properly, there's even a complete no damage and no sightjack run of Siren.

Clearly he is insane.

I was just watching the (silent) video of the pacifist run of Marathon without realising the Speedrun of Umihara Kawa Se Shun was running in the background, and I was like, wow, the sound effects in Marathon are WEIRD.

Also, Marathon is UGLY. That wasn't related to Umihara Kawa Se Shun though.

At least my face isn't rendered confusing by the theme music to Umi Hara Kawa Se Shun!

BOOYAH

Also yesterday someone described me as a HUNK, I never heard anyone say that about Marathon

Unless they then followed the statement with 'OF SHIT'

Am I supposed to counter with a bunch of pictures of me? I'm not rising to it. And yeah, I call that ugly. I thought it was Blake Stone: Aliens of Gold for a minute. And the HUD looks like the HUD from Duke Nukem 2.

Dude, you can imagine what you like in that twisted brain of yours, but I can tell right now with absolute Rene-Descartes-Trust-Only-What-Your-Senses-Can-Tell-You certainty that Marathon looks like some PD game that came free with PC Gamer that was programmed by someone typing with his ass.
