Since I don't feel like creating a new thread every time I find a link to pass on, and I don't have a staff thread to post in, here's a link dump thread.

How old were you when you first heard the term, “Nintendo,” and what does the name mean to you now? (zomg viral marketing itt)

SotN 360 Gameplay video!

Leave it to Digital Eclipse to fuck things up yet again. Slowdown! Look at it!
At least the graphics seem ok.

Why do Digital Eclipse seem to have the de facto 360 porting rights anyway?
Is there no other group of people willing to port (or rather, emulate badly) a game?

I really wish that there was someone else. Digital Eclipse is so fucking terrible.

Also, yeah, Snake VS Zombie looks amazing. I don't quite know what it is outside of a press event though.

At first I thought maybe some of the slowdown in that SOTN video was from the flash video format, but no, that looks like another crappy port.

I'm guessing Digital Eclipse is in cahoots with Microsoft, and so in addition to having (relative) experience porting games for XBLA they can probably get games through the approval process faster than other teams (I believe at GDC someone from the Behemoth says it takes a full year from code-complete to the game appearing on Live). Moreover they've made a name for themselves doing ports, so these larger developers like Midway and Konami probably could care less how "good" the port is so long as it's out there making money for them.

They're not in Coohoots. DE has been doing shoddy ports for a long time (since the GBC iirc).

They put together the rather impressive Dragons Lair GBC port.

Yeah, they've also done original shitty work as well. They are a part of Foundation 9, which, regardless of their actual track record, makes them look like a good choice. They've also been doing emulation for years - Williams Collection on the Genesis - so I'm assuming they're quick and have a good plan when approached.

They have put out a few good titles actually, but most of their stuff is unremarkable. When they do a good job with porting, though, it's usually really good.

They mostly do porting or licensed crap. I'm seeing a few of the games they've done in the past and I bet alot of them were acussed of being TOSE (or whatever) games.

Whoa, the US is getting a whole bunch of RPG releases for the PSP:

Dungeon Maker and Brave Story(!)

J'anna De Arc

Also, i don't know if you guys are familiar with Brave Story or not. I know Tim Rogers has talked about it before. It was a story commissioned from Miyuki Miabe, a Japanese author who has previously written a number of novels including a novelization of Ico (yes, that Ico). The novel she wrote for Brave Story is being translated into English by Viz and coming out this summer too.

The Minus World explained.

I couldn't follow any of the assembly bits (nor a lot of the other stuff, for that matter) but it's still an interesting read.

i feel really, really stupid asking this, because maybe i'm missing something obvious. can you specify the slowdown you're talking about? is it the whole time or a specific part? maybe it's been too long since i've played SotN, or maybe i'm not as sensitive to this stuff as i'd like to think i am, but the video looks okay to me.

there is no slowdown in the game. pretty sure it's just the video.

but! they fucked the sound emulation up.

Odin Sphere trailers. This game looks gorgeous, and a mix of Princess Crown and Valkyrie Profile.

Also, one of the characters takes the miniskirt and stockings look to a new hemline.

I wish my job was to track public reception of games/game hardware/game things by reading forums.

It's such a strange (and probably very stupid) way of doing metrics on a press release or an announcement. I wonder if these people are in cahoots with the folks who do the viral marketing in forums and know to discount them or not.

$10 optical cable from Target. In stores only, and it says it's for the 360 but it's not a proprietary connector or anything. It's nine feet long, which is amazing since a six foot optical cable on the other end of their electronics department costs $17.

Shaper told me about this when he was here for GDC and I finally found one. i just hooked it up and the difference in sound quality (since I have a Dolby surround capable receiver) is like night and day.

Yeah, that's them. I meant to tell you that I also saw a different brand at Best Buy recently in the game section. It's weird. Anyways, glad you finally got the optical cable. You should play doom again. Don't forget to hook up the rear speakers.

Network monitoring is now a game ... kinda.

I instantly though "holy shit! that's just like it was in fucking Hackers (movie)." Then when I read the comments I saw I was not alone in making this association.

Dragon Quest Swords: Wii confirmed for 7/12/2007 in JP. Please, god, make this a simultanious release in the US, I can't wait much longer.

ALSO, thinking about the Wii, what happen to the US release of the SD Gundam Wii game? I really want to play that.

He's on the latest radio show. Here's the page. Here's the synopsis:

Arcade aficionados Brandon Sheffield and Matt Leone join Jeremy Parish, Scott Sharkey and Chris Kohler as they pay tribute to the one console that made PS3 look insanely cheap by comparison: Neo-Geo.

Ho-oooooly shit, that does sound good! Vicarious Visions have, to me, proved themselves as very competent developers, so I really look forward to this. Man, the sefl-recorded transforming sound would have been awesome, though!

I am also irrationally excited for the "big" version of the game too, because... well, fuck, Peter Cullin.
