I'm in!
Why would I want more/less of the same redundant drama and sexual deviancy than I could already get for much cheaper on PC? _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

Dracko I notice you like to crosspost between select button and Gamer's Quarter.
Why is that exactly? _________________ aerisdead |

Because I figure not everyone browses the TGQ forums and the same applies to Select Button.
Also, I'm lazy at heart. _________________ "This is the most fun I've ever had without being drenched in the blood of my enemies!" |

This is true!
But I'm afraid I'm not interested unless there are space chairs that pop out of your bum as in PSO:
I watched that trailer and saw none of this. I am afraid it is a deal-breaker. |

It's really Second Life but with Sony advertisements. Also, there are elements that were ripped off from Xbox Live, The Sims, Phantasy Star Online and I'm sure more than a few others. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

Actually the style of architecture in the "lobby" made me wonder if had contracted the design out to Sega--the big curved railings and circular hub-type architecture seem to belong on Pioneer 2, not in Tokyo (or wherever that bridge is supposed to be).
No, there was something from Nana's essential liveblog post that caught my eye:
Nana Komatsu wrote: | Says easy to develop, uses 3D models from Maya. Until this point, I forgot he was speaking to developers. |
If end-users can import their own models, well, that could very well make the PS3 the next big thing--but I know this won't happen because no self-respecting multinational megacorporation in their right mind would allow user-created 3D models of god knows what into their virtual world. A DAVENPORT COVERED WITH COCKS, THAT'S WHAT.
Instead, Sony will probably take the CyWorld route and try to charge for virtual possessions, which won't work because CyWorld is free to join with several million established users, while PS3 Home has a $600 entry fee and a user base of Wes Nihei. What's the point of spending five bucks on a virtual couch that no one will ever sit in? Bah. Anyway, that trailer makes me want very badly to go load up my old PSO save file. I wonder if this will be the night I finally beat Dark Falz on Hard? |

I don't think my comment should be taken to mean that Sony will be allowing end users to upload their 3D models into Home, since he was addressing a group of game developers most of which are working for major publishers and studios. Still, something like what Microsoft is doing with XNA that would allow amateur developers to import content even on a personal level, would be fantastic but I have a hard time seeing Sony being okay with that. _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

I'm inclined to agree, for two reasons, both of which are pretty strong, and have been mentioned already
#1) why would sony let people make and upload for free what sony could instead sell via micropayments, making money both on the good itself as well as on the advertising space that the developed good counts as?;
#2) because sony probably doesn't want to take to take the 'adult' step of letting people put dongs all over the ps3s. which they would, in about an hour, of being able to upload their own models.
user-created content, you are the next level of challenge. |

so this thing is pretty dumb. (i was there when it was unveiled.) it attempts to replicate the mii channel, but misses the point by marketing itself to people who already have ps3s (whereas nintendo's mii channel is directed at enticing "non-gamers" to play with their console), and it's set right in the heart of the uncanny valley (whereas miis are more iconic and expressive). it also attempt to replicate the xbox's achievements, but misses the point there too - whereas one's friends' xbox achievements are readily visible from a simple menu, on sony's machine one must view a friend's "trophies" from a fully 3d metal dungeon of frightening scale. in sony's attempts to "one-up" their competitors they have totally failed to comprehend why those ideas work in the first place.
and of course, it's full of ads. banners, trailers playing endlessly on screens. publishers are being given their own "worlds" within the gmae as advertising space, and phil harrison mentioned the possibility of space for non-game corporations (like nike and banana republic). the whole thing was constructed to be an avenue for advertisers. and one more obnoxious than the xbox's desktop ads, which make no pretense that they're anything but ads. "our ad banners are real banners", phil harrison said. in sony's virtual space, advertisements are physical objects. _________________

while i think yr right, the cynical dog in me is pretty sure that despite all of its craposity, PS3 Home will probably terribly popular and effective with anyone who actually has a PS3. because people like to be retarded. also, advertising.
