there are only 2 or 3 games on that list that are really "must-haves" and maybe another 2 which are interesting.

and we don't even know what's coming to the VC in February!

Some of those sound pretty interesting, especially Catan, but the two services still don't seem very comparable as far as I'm concerned.

You must be referring to Alien Hominid HD, Castlevania: Symphony of the Night, Catan, Eets: Chowdown, and the online enabled Worms here, right?

I guess I just find it hard to get excited for games I can buy online right now on their original consoles for under $5.

depends on whether alien hominid includes the bonus game that's better than the actual game.

uhhhhh

you can buy alien hominid, SOTN, and Eets on their original consoles for comparable prices to what you're paying for them on XBLA!

And Alien Hominid isn't even that good!

And Eets looks interesting but isn't an instant sell for me!

and SOTN is just a guilty pleasure!

and I don't like worms!

so for me february is actually kind of barren!!

Technically only the TG16 does, and if you don't have a HDTV you won't even notice.

A certain level in Bonks Adventure blurs the hell up on my regular TV. Is this part of the emulation or is it an error? It gives me a bit of a headache.

seriously, what's the deal with gain ground? the only robotron-alike i really enjoy nowadays is shock troopers, and that game's like ninety percent metal slug.

think of gain ground as a realtime strategy game where you only control one unit at a time.

I've always thought of Gain Ground as a more strategy inclined Gauntlet with single screen stages that have a fixed amount of enemies in them.

i guess it's not in the pce version, but vigilante has this amazing sound clip of someone goind "hey c'mon" that plays when you fight the bosses. it is probably the best sound clip ever (besides "fight it out").

Kirby's Adventure, Kid Icarus, and Ice Climber today. AWESOME.

I'm gettin' me some Kid Icarus for sure. I never had it, but I did beat it on a temporary trade back in the day.

I have spent more time playing Super Mario Bros. on my Wii than any other game.

I have spent more time playing XBLA games on my Xbox 360 than any other commercial game.

I have copies of Dead Rising and Excite Truck still wrapped that I haven't gotten around to playing because I get distracted by R-Type and Assault Heroes.

Oh god...

Kid Icarus.

Shit. I think that's two backlogged games to get when I find the time to even turn on my Wii (it's been glowing blue at me for like 5 days).

Well, it does have vs. co-op. I like it a lot, but I can't really say it's better than Kid Icarus or Kirby's Adventure or anything. It's unique in a good way, and to me that's worth it.

Today:

• Legend of Kage (NES)
• Donkey Kong Country (SNES)
• Streets of Rage (Genesis)
• New Adventure Island (TG-16)

Hmmm... nothing for me here, unfortunately.

Hell no! I've always hated those games, for some reason.

So, Ocarina of Time is coming out on Monday! I would like to get it, though I don't know if I'll really play it that much. After Wiimoting around Twilight Princess, playing Zelda with a traditional gamepad will seem backward.

Also you can buy that Gamecube zelda collecton with it and Masters Quest for about as much as you'd be paying for the VC game.

It's very possible that we'll get Neo Geo and MSX stuff too, despite the latter seeming significantly less likely.

The Gamecube version is also usually more than $10 from what I've seen on ebay.

True! But I heard that version has some loading issues that are annoying enough to make the experience considerably less enjoyable. But it is higher-res, isn't it?

The N64 games are generally cleaner looking on the GC. They are able to be played in progressive scan, too

Really? I usually see it going for like $30-40 whenever it's for sale. I thought it was pretty rare?

Yeah, it usually goes for far more than $10. The disc that had the NES games and Majora's Mask also goes for a pretty hefty sum, too.

I have both discs in question, and when ever I try to play majora's mask it locks up. I can't say why and the disc is in pretty good condition, but it locks up opening this one door everytime so I can't get out of the first town after turning into the deku kid.

Anyways, so what people are saying is that these games emulated on the GC output in progressive scan these games look as good as their VC counterpart? I ask because I've held off on futzing with the disc to play majora's mask to just get it when it eventually comes out for the VC.

That seems odd. I've been emulating the n64 Zelda titles on my PC, and Majora's Mask works beautifully while Ocarina hangs up enterring and exiting menus.

Don't the N64 Zelda games look like shit when played on anything but the original hardware? From what I played of the ZOoT Master Quest it seemed like the pre-rendered 2D planes in the background are blurred in order to look similar to the blurry 3D polygons on top and when you throw the hi-resolution polygons of the emulated versions on top you've got something that looks terrible.

Get it for the N64.

Speaking as somebody who has the originals and the discs for the Gamecube, I don't see much of a difference between them. I'm not much of a hi-fidelity freak though. (Plus, the originals don't look so hot to begin with, since the N64 wasn't really set up for textures.)
