Yeah, Deuce's translations are really well-done, and the patcher itself is pretty slick.

It strikes me as unwise to turn an unlicensed fan translation into commercial software, but I guess that's his problem.

What I find silly is the way he's going about it. I know it must be frustrating when something you're still working on gets leaked, but he should have considered that possibility when he decided to give the beta to anyone willing to donate. At this point, I don't think there's anything he can really do about it - but there's nothing to indicate he's joking when he writes "I'll be offering rewards to track down certain individuals." I mean, what?

Also, banning and then insulting on his front page people who apparently just raised concerns upon hearing that future patches could contain, essentially, malware? (he calls them, more or less inexplicably, "butt pirates")

Weirder still, banning the whole of Asia from his site? What the hell?

That's a pretty good point. I guess he's just really proud of his work and doesn't want it to be messed with? That's really my thought on it.

But not that it matters. Apparently he's taking a break from the scene for awhile that might turn into permanent... Which kinda blows because I would really love to play Ys Origin in English to know what the neck is going on.

Oh well. I stand by that the patch is top notch and he deserves the donations. And if Ys Origin is going to be pay only. I'll still pay.

I'm sure someone will pick up the task of translating, even if that person isn't as talented or dedicated to the Ys series.

This whole thing's kinda weird and I hope he changes his mind after the break, but we've gotten so many free translations already I'm happy to just leave it at that.

I just found this thread, and bothered to take the time to download Dawn of Ys from romhustler.net, only to find the disc image is corrupted. :-( Did anyone actually get t to work, or are privvy to working copies? Thanks!

I found a working image via eMule. Can't say much else, you'll have to do the digging on your own.

I've been picking up Dawn of Ys every couple of months and play for a few hours, then end up at some obnoxious labyrinth/boss that requires leveling up and put the game away again. It feels a lot more soulless and churned out than the previous games, sadly. I play it mostly to pass the time, rather than to get that peculiar Ys feeling that the previous games had in spades.

Still, it's not a bad game by any means, just sort of vapid.

I also bought Ys ORIGIN and it wouldn't run on my PC because of some bad video drivers that I can't seem to get rid of :( This is why piracy is a good thing, at least to the consumer.

I am still going with all this. I'm on the last game in the serise, Ys: Ark of Napishtim. It's fun and all but I always lose momentum around that dang cave... Oh well. I'm still tryin.

hello there, I found this forum while searching about for some info on Ys (I played Ys III and its remake on PC "oath in felghana")
and I have seen those screenshots that six posted.
I would like to know what Ys version is it? is it Ys I & II complete ?
is there an enlish version? or did you use a patch? ...
any info would be greatly appreciated, those screens just made me drool...
I would like to play it in english with those beautiful artworks so if anyone can help ...

As for Book 1 & II, I've been trying and trying to get it to work on MagicEngine but I have a few problems:
When trying to run it in MagicEngine, I get the press run button screen and then a black screen.
When trying to run a System Card, I get the press run button then an eternal "Please Wait..." message.

I've been mounting Track 02.iso because when I attempt to mount the cue file, Daemon's Tools give me this message:
"Unable to Mount Image. File not accessible."

The PC Engine version of Ys I and II is now available for Wii Virtual Console. I'm playing it now, and it's my first experience with the Ys series. I think I'm just about at the end of the first game.

I like the music. Does anyone have any recommendations for arranged albums? I understand that there are quite a few of them.

I can't help but think that Crystalis must have been inspired to some degree by Ys.
