EA doesn't own Bond at all, they just had the rights to publish the more recent games in the series. I'm not sure if they're exclusive rights or not, but they certainly don't own any part of the franchise. And I don't know, I think it's aged quite well--I still have a blast playing it!

Note that this is just hearsay, but apparently Mario 64 just had a few minor graphical tweaks to make things a bit sharper, take away the standard N64 blur and whatnot.
Donkey Kong Country is indeed on the VC, and that's because Donkey Kong was a Nintendo trademark first. Rare walked away with ownership of the games they created like Conker, Perfect Dark, and Jet Force Gemini. I'm not entirely sure what the status of the rights to Goldeneye are--it's safe to say Nintendo doesn't have them, but I'm not sure how much Rare does either, considering it's a licensed property. Rare's Donkey Kong games are still owned by Nintendo as they feature Nintendo's own trademarked characters; that's how we were able to have the DKC re-releases on GBA after Rare was purchased by Microsoft. |

I think Banjo-Kazooie too. Not that anyone cares.
It's a good thing Dinosaur Planet had the star fox characters slapped in so Krystal would forever be locked into Nintendo's IP domain, right? right? _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

EA doesn't own Bond, the license was passed on to Activison recently. But I think it would depend more on the fact that putting the game requires a separate license at all. That's the reason I don't think we'll ever see any sports games on the Virtual Console. Since the original licensing agreements probably didn't include anything about future use of the roms, games like Madden, NBA Jam, Bond, or movie titles may never make their way to the VC.
A few years ago one of the Limited Edition Madden games came with a few "classic" Madden games from the Playstation and Genesis days. I'm sort of curious how they handled the players in these since the original licenses probably didn't extend to re-releases, but I wasn't curious enough to buy it. I remember reading somewhere that they actually re-coded them for the Playstation 2 rather than using the old roms, and that probably had something to do with removing or updating the rosters. Anyone know?
Also: Banjo Pilot came out on the GBA shortly after Microsoft bought the license. Still, I think we're more likely to see Banjo 1 come out as a Live Arcade game.

Super Mario Bros. has a couple minor issues but otherwise seems extremely well done in terms of emulation. I'm seeing rainbows on the white pipes (and this is on a normal TV with RCA cables, I can't imagine on an LCD screen) and there are some flicker issues with more than three enemies on the screen, but neither are horribly distracting.
Street Fighter II is way more fun than I remember it being! _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

World Warrior (the one available on the US Virtual Console anyway). I'd only played this one in the arcade a few times while on vacation, but spent a lot more time with Turbo. I had assumed the lack of additional moves/characters would turn me off but I'm still enjoying playing quite a bit! _________________ resetbutton.net: videogames for unattractive people |

I downloaded Soldier Blade. It's really good and appealing, in a way I can't quite describe. It just seems to have its own little presence. I think it'll be something I return to for casual play more than the R-Types or Gradius.
But I take it Star Soldier isn't as good? |

I haven't tried Solder Blade yet, but Super Star Soldier is... well, it's okay. There's nothing particularly BAD about it, there's just nothing that stands out as particularly amazing, if that makes any sense. It just feels like a fairly generic, top-down shooter. I'm interested in giving Soldier Blade a shot, though.
The strangest thing is, every time I pick it up to play it I'm gripped by the compulsion to return to my PC and play ChoRenSha68k instead. |

Nintendo has a press release out stating that it will be the Super Nintendo Zelda game, but it wasn't up on the shop site when I checked it just now.
Also--how did I miss XEVIOUS coming out last week? Oh man. If I weren't already dropping five bucks a month on the Xevious cab at the local arcade, I would be all over that...

I hate this crap when they only put one game up.
I don't think much of Link to the Past - I struggled with it for ages on the GBA and just gave up. _________________ aerisdead |

LttP was great at the time, but I have no idea how it's aged since I haven't bothered to replay it since the mid-90's. _________________ where were you when nana komatsu got a wii? |

Terribly, particuarly if you're used to the streamlined 3D Zeldas (or even just Link's Awakening!)
Link to the Past surprised me by being much closer to the original game, in that you spend quite a lot of your time wandering about with no real direction and basically just come upon your upgrades or next dungeon by chance. Some might complain that the latest Zeldas hold your hands too much but I've reached the stage where I absolutely hate "wasting time" in games, so after the second dungeon in the mirror world (or whatever it is) I gave up because I was just bored. I didn't think much of the dungeon design up to that point either. _________________ aerisdead |

Well, this sort of thing isn't necessarily a problem if the areas you wander about in are interesting and you can gain entertainment from the act of exploration. Particularly if (as in the original Zelda) the game is still relatively small so that your poking around never amounts to much more than 5 or 10 minutes. _________________ where were you when nana komatsu got a wii? |

LttP is still tied with Link's Awakening for my favorite Zelda game. And putting up only one game makes a lot of sense in this situation - pretty much anything else they put up is going to get overshadowed to a ridiculous degree for most people. |

Oh! Joystiq is reporting that Bonanza Bros, Comix Zone, and Gain Ground are also due out today. Not sure if it's true, but since all of those are pretty shitty I guess it really doesn't matter!

If it helps, the Super Nintendo version doesn't have the infuriatingly annoying yips, grunts, and squeals transplanted from Ocarina like the GBA game does.
For me, this small detail makes all the difference. |

I've always thought of LttP as an urban exploration game, whereas the original Zelda is more of a landscape exploration game. The 3D games aren't really exploration games at all. |

That was supposed to be a joke...
But yeah, I don't really like Comix Zone, and Gain Ground (which I got for free with a used genesis) just seemed kinda like a poor man's Gauntlet. And Gauntlet's pretty poor to begin with! Admittedly, I sort of like the Bonanza Bros remake that's on the Sega Ages PS2 disc, but that didn't go with my "these games suck" thesis in my previous post so I sort of dismissed it.
In conclusion: Buy Zelda and Gunstar Heroes today!

Hey guys I've been playing R-Type for TG16 and it's awesome, except I've never been one for the extremely punitive nature of most shooters. I just don't take it very well when all my weapons I've built up (and a precious continue credit) is blown up by a single stray bullet, emitting from an enemy too close to avoid, in a hail of fire where there hardly seems to be anywhere else to go. I know this is part of what gives the game tension and makes it interesting, but all the same, are there any cheats to mitigate the difficulty? I could check GameFaqs but it seemed more true to the 16-bit era to ask friends. _________________

there is somewhere else to go. if there isn't, it's because you're not planning properly. _________________

You do realize that you have infinite credits right? And when you continue, you start at the furthest checkpoint you've made it to. _________________ PSN: Twitch_City ||| Wii: 8083 5371 5767 6700

I took a pottery class during my Junior year of high school in which I was told to "try not sucking" by the teacher, in reference to a slab of clay I was beating into submission.
Seems pretty relevant right about now. |

On the virtual console?
I've been played through R-Typer 3 (? whichever one was released a couple weeks ago)... no sign of only three credits.
Are you playing on Difficult or Normal? _________________ PSN: Twitch_City ||| Wii: 8083 5371 5767 6700

But yeah, you get restarted from the last checkpoint, which is pretty nice. If I had unlimited continues I might not have a problem.
Is R-Type III as awesome/more awesome? _________________
