I saw this topic in another forum (toastyfrog hello) and decided that it's a pretty fun thing to talk about. So here goes! What games is everyone planning on buying this month? I'm personally planning on getting:

Metal Gear Portable Ops
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin
Elebits

I'm sure I'll get some other stuff for Christmas as well, but for right now it's a very Konami December!

What's everyone else planning on picking up?

-Wes

i believe i am getting the fear expansion for my birthday from milady. beyond that, my future lies in mystery; crysis and bioshock when they drop, etc. the usual suspects.

I've all but completely fallen off the wagon. Still don't have a Wii! Or a 360. I might buy a Wii later this month, though realistically that probably won't happen 'til January. Let's see, are there any interesting PS2 releases this month...? Rogue Galaxy is next month, so I guess not.

Maybe I'll look up some things I've meant to buy for a while. Like Electroplankton.

I may have to get three more games this month.

I just got Scurge: Hive and Yggdra Union for GBA. Rea'ly looking forward to finishing off FFXII and getting started on those two. Particularly Scurge: Hive. Isometric 2d metroid style action is just the thing I need after FFXII.

Then a friend brought to my attention that I must have these new titles!

Castlevania: POR (preorder paid in full since forever)
Kirby Squeak Squad (I can never resist Kirby platforming and power sucking madness)
Zelda: TP (I look forward to comparing any differences between this and the Wii version my friend owns).

To think I thought I would make it the rest of the year without buying anything...

I can't think of a thing that's coming out in December that I want.

I want to play Portrait of Ruin, and a few other smaller releases, but I've sworn not to buy a goddamn thing until I beat Zelda. I'm also still playing Guitar Hero II and Wii Sports, as well as returning to GoW occasionally, so I want to milk my current collection as much as possible.

I really want to play Trauma Centre: Second Opinion, though...

Potentially:

Castlevania (if I can track down the pre-order bonus)
Elebits
Kirby

I put a bunch of stuff on Xmas lists so that I don't feel the urge to buy them.

I will have to wait on this. If putting is as hard to do as it is in Wii Sports I'm not getting it.

Hell. No.

Ac!d made me realize that MG is nothing without Kojima. Sorry to seem like a walking cliche on this, but I really just like what Kojima does, not Snake or Metal Gear or anything (this possibly explains why I have always enjoyed Raiden as the main character of MGS2).

I'm excited about MGS Portable Ops even though I've been told it controls like shit. Mostly it's my excitement about MGS3 spilling over into more canon story.

Yeah, well I tried back when it was an ICGC game. I didn't get very far and wasn't enjoying it at all.

They're already out, but I'm going to grab God Hand and Yoshi's Island DS, and I will be importing Rhythm Tengoku (finally) as soon as I get some money. Oh, and the Sega Genesis Collection for PS2.

Yeah, same here. Though I might end up getting it as a birthday gift, since it comes out a few days after.

Other than Twilight Princess I can't really think of anything that can't wait a while longer.

Definitely Portrait of Ruin. I preordered it way back during the Wii preorders, so I'm pretty sure that guarantees me a copy of the bonus as well, unless the EB guys are douches like the folks at the local Software Etc. and just hand out preorder bonuses to entice customers to preorder other games they may never have wanted.

I also hope to pick up Trauma Center: Second Opinion, Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, and Yggdra Union. Might also snag Final Fantasy V on the GBA just because I have the other portable releases, but I'm really going to have to reconsider my Final Fantasy collection: between some of the original carts and the PSX collections, I'm approaching the point where I have three different versions of some of the games. It'd be nice to know what the 'definitive' editions are. Maybe I'll start a thread on that sometime.

Oh, and I got a coupon from Play-Asia for $10 off an order of $50 or more, so maybe I'll look around and try to snag some fun import. This could be my chance to finally get Daigasso!

I haven't played it, but it's the version I bought since it's $10 cheaper than the DS version.

All I know about it (until later tonight) is that it was originally made for the GBA and was ported to the DS, Zelda:TP style. If there's anything graphically different you probably aren't gonna notice it unless you place the screen in your face.

I bought the GBA version mainly so I can have the option to play it on my micro, DS, and GBA Player.

I palyed it when it was "remixed" volume 1 for the PSP. Some good stuff on there, though the PSP was great for the vertical shooters.

Okami isn't out til (February) here. So probably Zelda:TP GC. I'm trying not to buy into the hype, and bet the horse riding will be dull like it was in SOTC/Zelda:TOOT. IMHO.
Maybe an old-X-Box and so I'll hopefully get the old games I've missed out on, Voodoo Vince, the Oddworld games, Galleon, Fable, Call of Cthulu, Kung Fu Chaos.

So not much in the way of new releases.

Whoa, don't be so defensive. The horse riding in the Wii version is fantastic was all I was saying.

And I just want the GC version, is all I was saying.

Also, Ketch, Okami is the worst disappointment of the entire year. I recommend a rental, but I really hate the kind of Zelda it represents. You might like it, though; most people didn't react quite as strongly as I did.

It has been my project this semester, and I am going to deliver a diatribe of frustration, as well as gobs of praise for it tomorrow in one giganti-post. So, um, brace yourselves?

Yeah, I sold my copy of Okami today. It took me some time to make this decision, but I realized that I was only being held back by my own wishful thinking. Okami could have been such a lovely game — I might even say it wanted to be, and it was almost there (the visuals and the sound were absolutely wonderful), but it was all smothered by irritating, cumbersome gameplay.

IGN says the DS version actually lacks a lot of the sprite animations and visual effects like dithering — not a huge difference, maybe, but considering the GBA version is $10 less it seems like a no-brainer. I'll pick it up tomorrow if I can find it somewhere.

I bought Yoshi's Island DS today. I've only played through the first stage during a break at work, so far, but it seems nice. We'll see! I'm gonna play it some more in a moment.

I think I may finally buy Half Life 2: Episode 1.
Also probably play some of the mountains of uninstalled pc games that I bought for 75% off when the local Sam Goody decided that nobody wanted to play video games on a computer.
Psychonauts amongst them!

I think so. Allegedly. Perhaps. The date has slipped to 12/14 for the Wii and 12/19 for the PS2. I'm really not sure what it is that always causes delays with SNKP ports, but I'm sure there's a good reason. My excitement pretty much departed when the date slipped the third time.

Yeah, CoC was too frustrating... but it hinted at doing so many things so well! Quite the shame that I deleted my save just so that I wouldn't be compelled to beat my head against a wall play it more.

I'm getting Metal Slug Collection on PS2 since I don't have a Wii yet, and probably a bunch of used Genesis games. I have a lot of car-related stuff to pay off Crying or Very sad

I just "picked up" a membership to Gamefly. I'm excited about it. I think it will help with my gaming woes--not enough money to buy games and usually lose interest in them after I buy them. Now I just need a Wii and the capability to play ROMs on my DS and I will be in my own personal gaming haven.

EDIT: Forgot to mention that the first two games I'm getting are Mega Man ZX and Okami.

'Tis the season for buying last-gen games dirt cheap, I guess. I just bought nine Xbox games for less than $50 combined!

Psychonauts
Sega GT 2002
Jet Set Radio Future
Panzer Dragoon Orta
GunValkyrie
Phantom Dust
Otogi
Phantom Crash
Beyond Good and Evil

I almost bought Knights of the Old Republic, too, but it seems like I've read a lot of negative things about it around here recently — nothing specific, but stuff like "KotOR sucks". What's so bad about it? I might be curious enough to pick it up at some point, anyway. There were a few other things I was looking at, too, but decided not to buy: Stubbs the Zombie and Morrowind, for example. I don't mean to turn this into a big Xbox retrospective thread, but I would love some more recommendations on hidden gems I might be overlooking!

Yep, I just bought a used Xbox.

I did the same exact thing when I bought a used XBox in May.

I almost bought Knights of the Old Republic, too, but it seems like I've read a lot of negative things about it around here recently — nothing specific, but stuff like "KotOR sucks". What's so bad about it? I might be curious enough to pick it up at some point, anyway.

KOTOR is a liar and a skank bitch. Er, that is, you'll probably enjoy it. I mean, I enjoyed it! I also hated it.

Okay, so, the game has some really good writing if you're into Star Wars. For example, the Dark Side is depicted less as evil and more as Nitzschean, which I found really interesting. There's also a lot of mythical background into various races such as the Tuskan Raiders. The gameplay, however, is crap, and the moral ambiguity the game promises is another load. It makes me angry, and it started me on a year-long tirade against Bioware. Part of it is that you need to recall when it came out, and how it's like the first ever serious Star Wars RPG, and it was surrounded by a lot of hype, and I believed most of it. It really makes me anrgy.

It's worthwhile enough. Just be prepared to have mixed feelings.

I never owned an Xbox, but lived with a guy in college who had one. The games I got were BG&E, Ninja Gaiden, Otogi, Splinter Cell, and, shit, some other unmemorable stuff.

Ninja Gaiden really is superb; however, I'm not enjoying Godhand very much, so maybe I wouldn't think so anymore today. BG&E, well, you already bought it. Don't expect anything based on its title. It doesn't go beyond good and evil at all. Otogi, well, you also already bought it, but I have to say that I was very disappointed. Splinter Cell is like a tight MGS, except it's so tight that it becomes unbearable before too long. I never got Psychonauts for PS2 because I heard that the Xbox was better looking, but I always wanted it. I'll probably get it soon.

We played Halo all the time. It was great. I'm not ashamed. We were high.

Yeah, I mean, I've played it before, on the PS2. We were talking about this in that SotC thread not long ago. And yeah, the title doesn't really mean anything within the context of the game, but I suppose it does well enough to suggest the scope of it all. I gave my old copy to a friend a while ago, though, and I've always meant to replace it and play it again, so there it is. It feels like it was meant to be an Xbox game, anyway. Maybe it's just the green — Jade, her lipstick — you know.

I've considered picking up Halo or Halo 2, if only to see what I've been missing. Seems like there are more interesting FPS games on the console. Serious Sam or Oddworld: Stranger's Wrath, for example.

Yeah, the green. I love Jade.

So let's see. I wish Stranger's Wrath had come out while I had access to that Xbox. Always been interested. Regardless of that, though, you have to play Halo. Everyone does. It's the perfect model of a simple, rock solid console FPS, and you need to get it and play it on its hardest difficulty. That's all there is to it. The physical strategy involved in playing at that level is very impressive -- well, maybe not so much since Half-Life 2, but my computer can't handle that, so I wouldn't know.

Nah, Half-Life 2 doesn't really compare to Halo in terms of AI, which isn't really a slight on Half-Life 2, it's just that the AI is Halo's major strength and what makes it replayable, especially for the huge set-piece battles.

The fact that you feel the need to apologize for having played it is pretty weird.
