Thanks for the warm welcome, Stotelheim.

Does anyone around have green tea? I'm out of my gyokuro. And I'll need some to work on my live visuals for next sunday.

Drink coffee, rum and cokes, tequila, and smoke cigarettes instead!

Trust me. Try it once, and you'll get over that sissy green tea stuff forever.

Sometimes I just really hope you're joking.

Sencha isn't as bad as some make it out to be, but have you tried jasmine? In terms of green teas, it's got one of the best fragrances and overall refreshing aspect to it.

I'm currently trying out a oolong and jasmine blend. It's pretty good, but oolong just feels out of place anywhere except accompanying a meal, especially where I usually take my tea (held in a thermos cup sitting lotus on a chair in the middle of class).

Rum maybe I'd do. But like tequila, I'm too far from the source to get any decent one. The stuff they sell here under that name is so bad. Cigarettes I really .. well let's just say I don't need to look sophisticated, one within my fingers, at home. It's fun because at the same time cigarettes are just gross. Especially close to a mouth.

Sencha? I do have some sort of sencha mixed with weird stuff like ginger or rose petals which I got as a gift. But it makes for a very clear tea. I like the way gyokuro has texture.. It's almost like eating tea.

I do drink Jasmine/Oolong with meals only..

Gunpowder is very tasty I think. Tasted one with mint, it had a great fragrance. But I don't have any around either :/

But really, coding under the influence of alcohol is a no-no Smile

!=, I still can't decide if I think you're japanese or not.

Anyway yeah I think some rum and cokes would do everyone in this thread some good except faithless because she has a thing going maybe.

Also I felt completely validated when it turned out that no girls ever drink rum and cokes because that's my favorite drink.

How long did the not drinking thing last anyways?

"No drinking" lasted 1.2 weeks. During which time I lost my ability to write, think, or smile. I hallucinated rats and was generally unpleasant to be around. Also, my sex drive dropped to 0.

Drinking without getting drunk (wine at dinner, a single whiskey before bed, etc) continues!

So that's 2.3 weeks of not getting hammered.

This weekend, I'm having a party, though ... so that'll be the end of that. I hope I don't end up smashed and posting to insertinsert.com or fuckingkonamiyear.com or whatever it is.

Aye, aye, aye... the little twinge of tipsiness all the time is just lovely y'know?

Aye, it's not good to get hammered too much. It's nice to do it once in a while though, when the moment is right!

I personally didn't do my cartooning homework and made lots of movies instead. That and played a lot of video games. Mostly MGS, Zelda, and various Saturn games. And pined for this one girl, which led to lots of masturbating (not to be all Chu, or Rya, or whoever that was all about jerking it all the time).

If I could do college again, I would just have been gutsier about women in general.

Yeah that just about sums up my college experience and wishes. I'd go back and finish my degree, but something tells me it won't be as much fun and mainly to be there just to get that friggin piece of paper that tells employers "I can put up with several years of bullshit with a grin".

I think it's because I'd be way older than everyone on campus.

Not to change the subject or anything, but how soon are these new forums going to be here? Would you guys appreciate a new temporary (or permenant) forumAxe forum for threads about drinking during class in college?

Bah, I've been getting the itch to return and finish my degree. But I suspect that as soon as I sit in my first class, the total and absolute apathy that I feel towards that piece of paper will drive me to quit again. I have to find something I care about, and Accounting sure as hell ain't it anymore.

Those were DTs, and you absolutely, absolutely need to attend rehab or something soon. HSB, quit encouraging alcoholism. There's a damn difference between drinking responsibly and being at the point where you go into fucking hallucinations when you stop for a few days.

Get help before you kill yourself.

Hot Stott, how many nights a week are you drunk (when I say drunk, I mean "a little bit buzzed which is delightful tee hee hee" or however you'd put it)?

I'm trying to decide if you just like to keep women drunk or you actually think this is acceptable/healthy behavior.

I'm not looking to start any kind of flame wars, I just think alcohol abuse is serious business, internet or not. I live with a flatmate who uses alcohol as a crutch, that's bad enough. If we're going to have a new forum and it it's going to run calmly, certain behavior is unacceptable, like condoning being pissed (in the UK sense) all the time. Absolutely nobody needs to be enabling Faithless' habit if it's gone so far she's seeing rats when she kicks the bottle.

I motion this be made a ground rule because it's miserable as hell to watch.

We need to have our new forums up in time for Faithless to post drunk.

Maybe I shouldn't be encouraging her and all but I think faithless is a big girl and the intertron isn't going to make her start/stop anything.

Alcoholics aren't big boys or girls, they're people with an addiction which erodes will and reason. It becomes akin to a mental illness. The body breaks down the booze in different ways,

Big girls can still pickle their livers, and statistically they can take less punishment from booze than men can. There are also other unique risks, like having unprotected sex while blind drunk, getting pregnant then giving the kid fetal alcohol syndrome before you find out you're carrying. FAS kids aren't pretty, and neither is a thirty-something alcoholic who looks late fourty-something.

There's nothing particularly funny or amusing about Faithless' drunk posts. I used to find them pitiable or annoying, now upgraded to disturbing and sad.

Quote:
Alcohol withdrawal differs significantly from withdrawal from other drugs in that it can be directly fatal. While it is possible for heroin addicts, for instance, to die from other health problems made worse by the strain of withdrawal, an otherwise healthy alcoholic can die from the direct effects of withdrawal if it is not properly managed. Heavy consumption of alcohol reduces the production of GABA, which is a neuroinhibitor. An abrupt stop of alcohol consumption can induce a condition where neither alcohol nor GABA exists in the system in adequate quantities, causing uncontrolled firing of the synapses. This manifests as hallucinations, shakes, convulsions, seizures, and possible heart failure, all of which are collectively referred to as delirium tremens.

So while Faithless shouldn't cold turkey she needs to get to a clinic. You can't moderate alcoholism, because even one drink can strengthen the addiction.

It sounds like she's drinking responsibly to me now?

I'm just generally opposed to the idea of complete and moralistic abstinance from anything. I don't like it. It bothers me a lot.

I'm less that happy about any problems she might have, and more that I'm happy that she's not taking it from the "I'll never drink again!" approach anymore.

College?! Shit, I can remember times during high school where my friends and I would get cokes or whatever at lunch, the kind that come in those big styrofoam cups, drink half the coke down, fill the rest with rum or whatever, and be on our merry way to class. This practice was quite common at my high school.

HSB, quit encouraging alcoholism. There's a damn difference between drinking responsibly and being at the point where you go into fucking hallucinations when you stop for a few days.

HSB, she's hallucinating when she doesn't drink. That's not drinking responsibly, that's managing an addiction.

Then you don't understand how this works. Alcoholics are incapable of drinking responsibly: Faithless' symptoms suggest that her mind and body have now become so fundamentally adapted to alcohol that they go batshit when it's removed from her system. That is some fucked up shit. All she's doing is prolonging sustained damage to her body and risking turning into an outright lush.

It disturbs me a lot when alcohol is somebody's "thing". Perhaps that's why I find it so hard to tolerate you a lot of the time. Booze is something you talk up a lot and it depresses me. I mean, it almost seems like you have a psychological dependency on it. This isn't moralistic abstinence, it's a health issue. Some people cannot handle certain substances. I would not offer someone with a peanut allergy peanuts, and in no way would that constitute an effort to impost "complete and moralistic abstinence". Perhaps you need to enlighten yourself on the biological and medical aspects of the subject before you respond to posts about it.
