Why not some sort of compromise such as hardbuttons, selectgametype or selectdifficulty?

Toups, you should come to the IRC sometime to discuss things with people. The angry mob demands discussion of plans for Whatever The Site/Forums Will Be Eventually Called.

Too fucking clunky on all points. hardtype is straight, symmetrical, and to-the-point. Too many people forget the elegance inherent in simplicity.

Easily the best one, in my book. Though it's a little too extreme and edgy and tuff.

Meh, probably the 2nd best one, but i'm not a fan.

Very weak.

Lets put save and continue as one of the choices. A little long, but not like it can't be abbreviated SAC.

becausevideogames is good. it is also a bit long (LPN).

hardtype is solid, and short.

onecoin is weak, although the reference is funny. still no good.

selectbutton, an almost useless button?

lol

also: no. We've already spent an inordinate amount of time deciding a site name. A decision will be made tonight.

Toups if you want to vote and get the least offensive response, you ought to use a Borda count. It can't be done with the forum poll but there are few enough people that self-tabulation wouldn't be too hard.

That looks complicated and isn't really necessary given the fact that I will be ignoring everyone's input and making an arbitrary decision based on my own whims.

You could always register a dreamhost account and just make the new forums yourself I suppose. Wasn't the deal that the old forums were gong to be elsewhere, so these will be entirely fresh or what?

No. These are the new IC forums and they will also host an archive of the old forums. I'd like to avoid the notion that it's an entirely new entity, because it's not.

Let's please not make a bunch of splinter forums until this one fails horribly okay?

selectbutton: this one's all right. a little bland, though.

Hardtype is where it's at. Becausevideogames is unworkable and sounds like an excuse for wetting your pants. Onecoin sounds like Hollywood makeup master Kevyn Aucoin and he's gay. Selectbutton is useless. Just name it after me an get on with your day.

Lurking n00b chiming in here.

-becausevideogames
Generic. Long. Holds no real identity on its own. Because videogames what? And hell, did your grade school teachers not teach you not to end sentences with "because"? And di your middle school teachers not teach you about sentence fragments and how to avoid them? BVG as an abbreviation sounds stupid. Does not really describe the community on its own to any degree. Most decidedly un-edgy. Just plain sounds stupid as a whole.

-selectbutton
A button that most console manufacturers have realized is absolutely useless and have omitted due to its redundancy. Just great. Do you not realize that the PS2 and PS3 are the only current-gen consoles that still sport Select buttons on their controllers? Even Nintendo, the goddamned inventors (?) of the button realized that it was totally useless and dumped it! Do you want the forums to be identified with Sony fanboys now?! Do you?! Think carefully now.

Because videogames what?

Because videogames. . . MOTHERFUCKER!

Explanation: A long, long time ago, there was talk about printing IC shirts, and people were deciding what to put on it. The thread turned into a bunch of catchphrases with insert credit before them. The thread favorite was a shirt that said:
insert credit
Because videogames. . .

And, on the back,

MOTHERFUCKER!!!!!

Aside from that, it could be turned into its own catch. Insert whatever you like after "because videogames."

Because videogames
Are better than girls.

Because videogames
IS ART!!!!

Because videogames
Make me cry.

Also my grade school teachers who told me not to begin a sentence with "because" were fucking wrong. They were also fucking wrong when they told me not to split infinitives or strand prepositions. Oh, hey!

Because videogames
Aren't for prescriptivists.

I really like that name.

Oh. Well. I guess that explains a few things.

I still think the mere fact that it needed to be explained at all makes it too much of an in-joke to use for a set of public forums where new user signups are still being encouraged. "One coin" at least stands reasonably well enough on its own without requiring such an explanation, conjuring imagery of videogames without having to refer directly to them.

Another in-joke. When we were playing the MMOGC game (see Rud's banner), the Japanese people who played gave an engrish translation of insert credit: "one coin." When you told them you were from one coin rather than 4chan they would be nice to you.

I'd have picked saveandcontinue over any of these other four as well. hardtype is about as close as we can get to decent from this list, in my opinion, but still not as good as jutla's recommendation.

Curses. Right, we're supposed to be negative instead of say what we like.

bossparade is hippie shit novelty faire. saveandcontinue is slightly long and a little bit esoteric, if perhaps apt to our current situation.

Save and continue is pretty nice. Bossparade works, because of the word parade...would it be possible to put another word in front of it?

grumblegrumble.com

Actually, bossparade works nicely if you think of it as a really good parade.

We should use something representative of the spirit of the community.

So why not something like "Orange Skies"? (If it were mercifully not taken already, I didn't actually check)

I say Orange Skies because I believe we are best suited as dreamers, and it reminds me of that one awesome stage in Gunstar Heroes.

Edit: This forum... My sig totally does not work here.

i think bossrush.com would be an improvement on bossparade.com, but i don't much like either because of the word "boss" (and in bossparade's case also because of the word "parade").
