Hey guys,

Microsoft set up the "Gamercard" thing that's going to keep track of Xbox 360 achievements and it looks like you can link them to your website. Post your gamercard in this thread! We can also maybe arrange times to get together and play stuff on Live.

Here's mine:

If you don't have a gamercard yet, you can get one at xbox.com.

This thread never really took off, did it!

Anyways, I'm assuming it will eventually, but for now I'm gonna put up other people's gamer tags that we know:

Alon (Chatterbox Game Radio)

Ryan (Entertainment Depot)

Chris Kohler (Wired, Insert Credit)

Sub (Insert Credit Forums)

I made one, because I take an odd pleasure in being able to look at the "achievements" for the 360.

Don't expect me to get an Xbox for a long while, though.

I made one.

Then they went and made the 360 all crap and that, so I doubt I'll be getting one.

Look now! My rep is totally almost the same as Jay Allard's!

Looking at Ryan's Gamercard you see Quake 2, which I didn't know was available on Xbox 360, but apparently it comes with Quake 4. Does anyone know if it would be worth buying Quake 4 just to have Quake 2 on 360?

Worth is very subjective.

Yes Joust! With online play, leaderboards, and added goals.

They also have Smash TV! And soon they're going to have Robotron!

What I've played most on my Xbox is probably Zuma. It's a popcap game, but it totally rocks on the 360. I dig it.

quake 2 is enjoyable. it's a stupid sleigh ride, but a good enough time.

quake 4 is not really that enjoyable.

If I may indulge in an emoticon, : O

Zuma sounds very nice. I actually liked that one online as well. It seems like the indie games are the most interesting thing about the 360.

I'll be shifting large parts of my beroom around for the rest of the week, I think. Give me a time and I'll get on live. Like "Saturday at 11pm" or "Sunday at 7pm" or "monday afternoon".

I'm making it so that I can have this sweet 5.1 setup and moving my bed from a wall to the center of the room. Also, I broke down and bought the wireless adapter, mostly because the 360 (in my bedrrom now) is some 65 feet away from the internet hub. Rataher than spend $40 in 100 feet of cable, I'm just gonna get the wifi dealie and hope for the best.

You free tonight? Since this isn't insert credit, I'll assume you had plans already. As I do with my room. I'll definitely be on Sunday night 8:30-2am with my DoA4 group.

yea, yea...

Expect Toups here too.

EDIT: Don't expect to see me online until July 15th or later though. That said, I guess I can still accept friend invites without having my 360 online.

You have to play through Quake 4 to play Quake 2, so you may want to factor that in there.

I'm rather embarassed to have the highest gamerscore in the room (presuming that J isn't lurking, and no, I didn't crib my username from him, I was using J. on economics blogs well before I know who jallard was).

Well, I have only had mine for a month, but aside from that I will probably never have the highest gamerscore, it really doesn't bother me that much.

My gamer score for Galaga is higher than yours right now, but that is not what I am talking about. The actual score in game being higher does bother me, but I have been competing for scores since the arcade became available to me in the early 80's. That is nothing new for as long as the high score table has been around. Someone who played through Easy Mode of Prey and got 800 gamerpoints is always going to beat me out in that even though it doesn't really matter.

So isn't an individual game's gamer score basically the equivalent of their "hi-score" in that game?

Thanks to Error 79, I'll be 360-less for 3 weeks - and my wallet permanently $130 lighter.

Right as new demos are coming out and Dead Rising hits retail too. Son of a bitch.

I was never told about one. I just got some forms to fill out, complying with the requirements that I not take photos of the innards and manipulate press release shots. I would've if I had known!

Error 79 is listed as a hardware failure. It can also be a problem with the hard drive. Unfortunately for me, my hard drive is fine.

Lucky for me, I know that my Galaga score will never go much above 20k. Years of practice have informed me of this.

It's nice to know that my $130 is being put to good use. It's been 5 days since I've called them and I've yet to get the box in to return the system.

Dead Rising demo is out now! Aaaarrgghhhh! I need to kill zombies!

Okay, well, I got it back and it worked for a day. Well, maybe not, because Oblivion froze every few seconds. Today I tried to play Ninety-Nine Nights and the game froze and screen tore after a few minutes. I tried playing again and the same thing happened again, only sooner. I tried watching a movie and the same thing happened. I called the support line and was told to remove the hard drive and try. After a few seconds the screen went black.

Although I do enjoy the guy going "You might have to adjust the PAL." Thanks.

One thing that really got me was that I was told I got another 90-day warranty after paying the $130 repair fee. This guy tells me it's only 30 days, and that my 30 days would've been up in 2 more days. It took around 25 days for the damn thing to get back to me. In two more days I would've been charged another $130 so they fan fix whatever they broke - this is different from my previous problem. They basically fix-broke my console. I don't have hope for it for when it comes back because I'm reading people getting the third one back as the one that works, and some people have to go to four. This is very frustrating.

Ouch.

Simple game freezes I think can be avoided quite a bit by plugging into an uninterruptable power supply, versus a surge protector or *shudder* plugging into the wall.

I found that a lot of the glitchiness in Oblivion went away after the patch. If they had released this game with those fixes, everyone would have had to rate it on the Victor Ireland scale.

Doing that, dusting the shelves that my AV equipment is on, and ensuring that I had plenty of space around the system and that it wasn't plopped on top of my tivo (very hot) made pretty much all my load freezes go away. Those were the only errors that I had though.

My system was one of the second large batch (picked it up at Target in the February restock). I think the first batch may have actually been bad, as opposed to some bad units. I think that their stash of replacement units all come from that same bad lot. I recently got my brother a system and he's had problems even with proper install and UPS...before that, I actually was of the opinion that the people making all the noise weren't even 360 owners (PS3 fanboys).

That sucks ryan. Do they ever actually replace systems, or do they just fix them? Anyways, I highly recommend getting some proof of shipping if they are going to pull that kind of shit on you.

I had a pretty bad problem with my 360 recently to, and I am so very thankful for purchasing it at Best Buy with the extended warranty.

So the Tuesday before Dead Rising came out I was hoping (against hope) I was playing Oblivion and my wife actually showed interest in the game! I decided to make her a gamer tag so she could start a new game. I should mention that earlier in the day I had actually received a dirty disc error which was proceeded by some really nasty grinding sound. So I start her up a new account and put the disc in. The screen goes black and then a small movie starts up that says “please insert this disc into an Xbox 360” in about a dozen languages.

It is obviously a message that plays when you put it in a standard DVD player. So, the machine is a little confused. I reset the system and try to start the game again: dirty disc error before the game even got to the company splash screen. So I turn the console off and restart it: the 360 won’t even recognize that there is anything in the drive (the only option at the bottom of the dash board is “Open Tray”).

I start thinking to myself what could be the problem. I know that Oblivion gives my system hell for processing power which causes over heating. Well, I hadn’t had my Inter-Cooler connected since I got out of the hotel in New Orleans, so I connected up the intercooler and tried again: dirty disc error. So I try leaving the system off for 15min and letting it cool down (it was really hot). Turn on the console and the splash screen for Bethesda loads up!!!!!! I was excited, then it happen: Dirty Disc Error.

After a lot of cursing and it taking like 30 min up to this point I decided to just turn the power off and try to re-boot it once more. Then I got the problem with the 360 not even recognizing the disk again. SO... then I decided to just turn the thing off for the night and let it cool down so that I could play Dead Rising the next day. I got DR, got home, and put the console the game loaded, yay! Then after I got through the intro part and opened my first door I got a dirty disc error.

I am pretty sure that I said, to no one in-particular, that "there is no way this fucking disc is dirty at all!" From there I told my wife that I was going to Best Buy to return this fucking thing. I got absolutely no problems from the guy behind the counter. The guy at the front door that puts the stickers on all the items returned said: "man, I want to get one of those, but I don't because they are the most returned item in the store!" I got the new one and got it home and still occasionally have a DDRError, but I have talked with some other people who had never had a DDRError problem but do with Dead Rising.

So yeah the 360 is a buggy piece of crap, good thing that I have 3 years to exchange it when it gets a hardware revision at Best Buy, and they keep it working for as long as the current revision is available.

I really wouldn't go that far, because that's just crazy talk.

The revised hardware should be hitting stores soon actually (the die shrink, which will also come along with some other changes). I think that the second wave was also subtly different somehow, although I don't have any way to confirm that.

It is kind of weird that online, the problems seem to be very prevalent, and Microsoft's return rate figures are only about 3%. I wonder if that only counts the ones actually returned to Microsoft, versus those that are returned to a retailer? I don't understand why that would make a difference though (Microsoft should be including retailer returns in their numbers).

I take it that you're using the system in the tower position (since you had intercooler).

I wonder if that is part of the problem (might explain the variance between total returns and "online gamer" returns. In any case, there are definitely power and heat sensitivities that don't seem to have been ironed out in stress testing. And those problems seem to be appearing when a new piece of software comes out that apparently drives the hardware more. That's definintely a problem, and they certainly need to figure out what the reason for it is.

I'm pretty sure most of the problems are related to the piece of crap dvd drive they put in these things.

No, the intercooler works standing up and laying down. Mine is in "missonary" position. Here is a picture of the old one:

Don't say anything about cat hair. The console was off and I had just seen her run in there. I started to scramble to get her off of it, but decided it was too cute of a picture opertunity.

Seems like maybe yes. It could be the drive though. Different batches of the consoles use different dvd drives. Some have the Hitachi and some have the Samsung.

The Samsung has a reputation of being all nice and quiet. The Hitachi has the opposite reputation (and had it's firmware cracked). As a result, they stopped using the Hitachi's. I think they were only in the first wave.

not an edit: I just checked and it seems like the Hitachi drives were not included in units manufactured starting in December, so, yes, it was only first wave systems.

If your drive tray has a little circular hole in the upper right corner when you look at the tray open, then it's the Hitachi. That drive also has a reputation for people scratching discs using it. Then again, that may just be launch idiots moving the console to the upright position when they were playing.

I know that my 360 has a Samsung drive.

BTW: Has someone been editing my sig? Because...um, I own Halo 2, but I have never played it. I did load it up to ensure that I had the updates and stuff, and loaded in the added levels from the expansion pack. But I haven't finished the first one yet.

If not, then I was insane when I wrote that last night. Not unheard of.

I'd make it my sig, but the constant reminder of NEXT-GEN GAMING seems against the unique character of this place.
