ever since the days of yore, a pure time when one could spend much of their time admiring the high quality artistic covers and, quite oft, feel inspired to purchase them for it, i have often stood in awe of the artistic qualities of video game based art. Over the many years, I've often spent much time, in the spirit of this awesome art, let my ink flow freely through daydreams born of the many hours spent playing these games. as the years went by, my skills improved, so much so that the quality of my labor of love became good enough that i would show others rather than let them stagnate with the multitude of doodles that plauge my many note books.

i dedicate this topic for all of us who went or are going through such an experience to show off our skills....or something.

to start off.. i will show some of mine...but before i do.. a few ground rules. which may be subject to change as time passes

1) 1 image per post and the rest must be linked to.
2) no posting multiple times in a row... let another person post before you post again.
3) Imageless comments are welcome.
4) absolutely no large bitmaps ('.BMP' files for the technologically illiterate).
5) adult rated materials must be labled and ONLY linked to, not shown. lets try to keep it a little clean here.

so here are some of my most recent works....

This is a WIP.. i am doing this for the hell of it.. as the term "Rolling up communism" struck me as awesome. i am considering adding arms to the king sillouet(correct me!) and maybe a giant katamari ball behind him..

On persona's personal oekaki board, Neo Kusogaki, i have drawn a few things..

Curly Brace of "Doukutsu Monogatari"
--a quick sketching and experimentation with the water color tool.
A Scene From "Doukutsu Monogatari"
--more random watercolor tool muckery.
An oddly drawn Parrapa the rapper
--just playing around some more.

thats all from me for now.

its your turn.

Mwohoho!
What a clever idea for a topic.

I recently did a MGS comic for FKW over at the insert credit forum.
Go read it!
http://insertcredit.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2695

I like the Communist Katamari image, too. It's clever and vector clean.

If (dhex willing) you want to make that more... banner-esq I could use that as the top image for the article.

I concur!

I'm curious as to what the article the image is based off of will be about.

The great USSR has been popping up in iconic imagery lately. Or maybe it's just Snake Eater reviving the popularity of the Cold War in my mind...

at least in ny it's become extremely popular - all the way down to those fur dress hats soviet sailors wore - as a clothing thing since dubya got elected. i suppose it's some sort of joke, maybe, or they just enjoy the admittedly superior graphic design sense of totalitarian governments.

or maybe they're ignorant, rich kid fuckfaces with no sense of history. i haven't figured it out yet.

In your heart, you know the answer.

THE POWER... IS YOURS.

But, yeah, what's up with totalitarian governments having such nice graphic design skills? All those propaganda posters and movies are genius, not to mention that practically all of the geniuses that made film great came from either Russia or Germany.

Maybe there's something to this oppressive environment that generates artistic creativity..?

Probably because they have a budget. We end up with old men in top hats pointing at you. Actually we had some decent scary tactic propaganda for certain wars. But ... yea.

stark contrast, very sharp lines, nonverbal displays of a unifying force?

maybe there's something to working under a literal deadline, perhaps?

or maybe that there's an actual embodiment of utopian grandeur to the utterances of the state that makes everything feel like an orchestral swell.

--lol, snake.. i was bored and i drew this... i wish i didnt draw it on the corner of the page....

What nightmares are made of
--Some "NiGHTs" related art work... its just reala under a different lens.

The World
--based on "Magical Drop"... during that time i was playing it like.. ALL THE TIME. this is the world.. and she's a bouncy one...i can safely say she is one of the best character designs ever.

enough of that...

Persona... THOSE COMICS ROCK!!

anywho.. i beleive the reason totalitarian governments get such kickin' art is because the artists 'life' is at stake. much like how arcade shooters improve your relexes and hand eye coordination by trying to kill you.

our emotions guide our souls...

WhoaHO.

It's SNAKE BELMONT.
Or Soma Snake or something.

I like how the MGS2 Snake is like a gruff old man. Then again, I also like how he's a gruff bishounen in MGS1. MGS3 is just kind of generic to me... it's like a middle space between the two. That and he looks too much like the actor from Gladiator for my tastes.

But hell, give Snake a bandana and he looks good no matter how damn old he is. Solidus, Liquid, Otacon, Ocelot.. any one of them would've been awesome-cool too if they had a bandana.

This is my truth.

sorry about the size, I should have scaled it down, but then some of the brush strokes would be lost.

No, his arms are like that because he is bracing himself against the bike tipping up.
(which means I was too lazy to draw him in a big action pose complete with heavy machine gun)

Love the work Sushi, reminds me so much of Jet Set Radio, which can only be a good thing!
Plus, bonus points for drawing accurate breasts, they can be very tough to do (even with a model to draw from). Wink

I just noticed that you can see that girl's nipple.

Sauce, as they say.

Anyway, I guess this counts as videogame fanart. If you broaden your definition of "art" to cover music. I recorded a cover of "Pollyana" from Mother for the NES.

Pollyana (I believe in you).

There. I think I've linked this enough.

Now that I look at it, the moogle also seems to have a bulge in his fur. Oho! Spicy!

When I went to Anime Expo last year, there was a giant group of people cosplaying as these moogle girls with wings and dingy-boppers. Every year the army gets a little bit bigger with more fangirl-moogle action..
I kind of preferred the army of black mages that appeared in AX after FFIX first came out though. It seemed more respectable, you know?

How do I do that without making the snare quieter? What does "shiny" mean?

shiny, as in, shimmery on the high end. another term which might be used is "glassy"describing how the highs are taking over from some of the upper mids.

i guess i assumed your snares and hats were on different mics. my bad. what you could do is roll off some of the highs (16k and up) on the drum tracks and see where the line between taming the hats and killing the snare is.

Well. I'm a one-microphone man until I can buy something better.

Yeah, I tried tweaking the EQ, to no avail. They seem to share the exact same frequency. Maybe I just need more bands, but all that tends to do is confuse me.

Well, shit. Isn't there something we can tweak so that only certain people can make new topics in that forum, but everyone can post? I mean, if Drew Cosner can do it, any asstacular fuckbag can, right?

Either that or rip out those forums entirely and replace them with proper staff blogs with comment systems.

I will volunteer to take care of either of these tasks!
