Ok, so I started thinking about this the other day and there is just way too much coming out between now and the end of the year.

Basically, what are you interested in between now and the end of the year? What's on your radar?

Here's what I got:

DS
Raid on the River
Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime
MegaMan ZX
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon: Blue Rescue Team
Contact
Yoshi's Island 2
Mario vs Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
Cooking Mama
Rainbow Islands Revolution
Bubble Bobble Revolution
SNK vs Capcom Cardfighters Clash
Scurge: Hive
Harvest Moon DS*

PS2
Rule of Rose
Okami
Devil Summoner
KOF: Maximum Impact 2

GBA
Super Robot Taisen 2
Yggdra Union
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon (;_;)
Capcom Mini Collection

PSP
Every Extend Extra

360
Phantasy Star Universe
F.E.A.R.
Sonic the Hedgehog (;_;)
Gears of War (?)

* for the wife

This isn't even mentioning the Wii...

OK, seriously, I don't remember the last time that I was looking forward to about 25 games (I know I am missing some) over a 3 month peroid. The only one that I really feel obligated to buy on release is PSU luckily. But I am going to have to get a few of those ATLUS games at release if I even want to see them at all.

So, what games am I missing, or what is on your radar? Am I the only person who feels like this is going to be a crazy fall?

Barring World War III (I mean, not like it hasn't started), this fall is going to be joyous.

My personal to-hit list:

Final Fantasy III (DS)
Mortal Kombat: Armageddon (fuck you)
Everything Wii-related (Pangya, Wii Sports, Red Steel, fucking Zelda, Mario Galaxy, etc.)
Hotel Dusk

Oh crap! I forgot about that. You just reminded me about Alan Wake though.

FAKE EDIT: Alan Wake isn't coming out until next year luckily.

everything i want drops in 2007, leaving me with little to put on birthday/mithras lists, thus aggravating the womenfolk in my life to no end.

Yeah, it got pushed back and moved to the Wii.

Time travel shooter. It looks like you defend/destroy the same river over the ages:

Raid Over the River looks fantastic. That one gameplay video (as early as it is, lacking things like enemy AI and such) is technically very, very impressive.

And hold on—there's going to be a Wii version? How much money do you want from me, Nintendo? All of it? Take it! Take it all!

Okay, that Raid Over the River just looks downright awesome; I'll be waiting with baited breath for that one.

So let's see here:

Contact DS (Just about a week to go!)
Final Fantasy III DS
Final Fantasy XII (yeah, I said it! How uncool am I?)
Yggdra Union
Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin (not sure if this is actually going to be out this year, but the trailers all mention Fall 2006, so here's hoping.)
Children of Mana (please, PLEASE let it make up for everything after Secret of Mana!)

And... uh... that's about it. At this point in time, I'm much more interested in getting my hands on things already released than what's coming up.

ALSO! The most unfortunately titled game I have ever seen: http://www.play-asia.com/paOS-13-71-fe-49-en-70-1jl7.html
If that don't raise a whole slew of questions re:gameplay...

I don't know what I'm going to do. The DS stuff I want alone should break my bank, especially since I want to trade up to a Lite at this point. Let's see:

Yoshi's Island 2
Super Paper Mario
Contact (which I have already bought from Amazon)
Okami
Lumines Plus
Sega Genesis Collection (I have probably only ever played about two of these games)
Elite Beat Agents
Mario v. Donkey Kong 2: March of the Minis
Raid on the River (thanks for the heads-up on that one, Shaper)
And definitely Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess if they keep their word and release it for the Gamecube.

I guess that doesn't leave me any room for buying a Wii, but it will still be there next year when I get around to it.

Does anybody know when Phoenix Wright 2 is coming out? I just nabbed a copy of the first one this weekend (thank you, re-issue!) and am enjoying thoroughly.

Its sad because it's true. Importing games from the US (or more usually canada) is actually a lot cheaper than buying them here as well.

How do you wait for a price drop on Criterion?

Also... fuck you man. WHY YOU GOT TO SHOW ME THAT?!?!?! I don't have enough money for that set ;_; Fuck seriously shit damnit.

Wait... they don't come with all the bonus materials do they?! Ha! I have found my reason for not getting it! (also I have 10 of them)

EDIT: There seems to be some games I have missed ... damn. this sucks for me :(

What? What! WHAT?!! Oh, that's some serious excitement right there. That, Contact and Okami are the things I'm most excited for. And the Wii, of course.

My dates are all from gamerankings (and DVDs from imdb). It doesn't have a lot of this stuff listed though; I think they list less speculatively than most. As opposed to gamestop just trying to get me to preorder any and everything.

So the Wii launch.

I was looking on Amazon and apparently

Super Mario Galaxy
Legend of Zelda
Wario Ware
Wii Sports
and Smash Bros.

will all be available on the UK launch day, November 24th.

This can't be right, can it?

Yeah, that's a lot. In fact that's like $100 per game (for you americans out there). Still not as much as N64 games used to be in this country. Remember when they were £60 each?

Anyway, if that list is correct, it's still the best launch line up ever, ever. I aspire to own these games somehow at launch, by hook or by crook.

It looks a bit like Criterion Gaiden, I think. What I'm seeing is one disc per movie, plus the new notes for each one. I'm imagining it's pretty barebones though; it specifically lists the original language tracks with English subtitles but nothing else. Still! It's so pretty! Dammit Shaper, move your ass up here so we can share this or something.

Ok, I talked myself out of it. One of the best things for me about criterion are the bonus features (inserts, books, documentaries, dug up news reels and interviews, essays, etc...). That's what really makes it worth the money. The quality of the digital transfer and audio is amazing to start with, but really being able to explore the film fairly extensively with just one purchase really does it for me.

And I almost bought this last night. Damn!

Seeing as how I won't be getting that Jet Black DS anymore (Car problems prevent me from buying ANYTHING for the next few weeks), I won't be able to get Contact or Cardfighter's Clash (for the time being). I will be buying Lego Star Wars II, Just Cause, Rule of Rose, the Sega Genesis Collection and Capcom Collection 2, and Phantasy Star Universe. I'm also hoping to pick up a lot of games I've missed out on in the past few years and I'd like to obtain a Sega CD in the next couple of months as well.

There's your mistake right there: never trust Gamestop's release dates unless they coincide with ones you can find elsewhere. Otherwise, they're wrong 92% of the time.

Medieval 2: Total War. Well, that and Gears of War - oh, Sheffield, your interviews have enticed me so! I'm not sure if Gothic III is this year or next. The only other games I've been eager to try have been released recently (Dead Rising) or coming out in 2007 (Hellgate: London and Spore).

Bought today: Rule of Rose. Haven't played it yet, but the art and packaging is superb! All the other discs in my binder suddenly look a little wan, sitting next to those butterflies.

Passed up: Mario 3 on 3, Megaman ZX, Cooking Mama, Harvest Moon DS. I'll pick the first two up in a couple months used and save a few bucks. I ended up deciding Cooking Mama looked like a waste of time (in a bad way), and I've already got a couple Harvest Moons I don't really play anyway.

Received in the mail: Adventures of Cookie and Cream. This may be the only playstation game I ever get my girlfriend to play with me. And the Mamoru Oshii live action trilogy (Talking Head, Stray Dog [the root of Jin-Roh, which remains one of my favorite anime] and the Red Spectacles.)

For a capital G Gamer, I'd say get it without hesitation, simply due to the unique experience of trying to split your concentration (unless you're already one of those freaky Ikaruga people).

The game itself is quite simple and colorful; played two player it'd be perfect fare for younger kids or non-gamers, as the challenge (except for slightly difficult jumping) lies mostly in the split between right and left and communication between players. It's got a time attack involved too, so I could imagine two experienced gamers could still have fun with it.

Good style and fun environments also; I found myself wanting to make a TGQ banner or 3 within the first couple levels.

I have been dying to know for YEARS if this is any good. Report back!

This game is really really good. Me and my wife completed it over a couple days, it was a blast and we were actually working together instead of arguing most the time like normal.

And the Mamoru Oshii live action trilogy (Talking Head, Stray Dog [the root of Jin-Roh, which remains one of my favorite anime] and the Red Spectacles.)

How much was this and where did you pick it up?

Where else?

Seriously, if I ever find myself jobless and desperate, I'm finding deepdiscountdvd's headquarters and applying with a stack of receipts in lieu of a resume.

This is totally my new criteria for judging the worth of videogames.

Also, thank you!

Yeah, it's region 1.

I really like the look of his new one, Tachiguchi Retsuden. I thought it was out, and I'm a little surprised I can't find a fansub of it anywhere.

Threads like this one make me sad that I don't have a job.

If I DID, however, I would probably want:

Phantasy Star Universe
Mega Man ZX
Zelda: Twilight Princess
Yoshi's Island II
Final Fantasy III DS
Valkyrie Profile: Silmeria
Rocket Slime
Okami

I'd also like a Wii somewhere in there but between all this and school expenses I honestly just don't see it happening this year for me.

I've already beaten the import FFXII and loved it. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I actually got involved in an RPG. Also, this may upset some people but I sunk about 10 hours into the import Contact and then returned it. Ditto for Children of Mana DS. Eh.

Doesn't upset me until I know why you did.

PS: Rule of Rose continues its class presentation from the packaging straight on into the game. It's really something special.

That's a goddamn lie. You take that back.

Every Extend Extra and Elite Beat Agents (this name never sets well with me) are great and everyone owning their respective systems should buy them.

From what I've experienced of Every Extend Extra, I haven't found it to be as good as the original freeware title by Omega. It might have more levels and special effects, but I don't find the gameplay and art style to be as refined as those in the original Every Extend. The visuals look messy and distracting, which hardly seems like an improvement over the clean flat-shaded polygonal appearance of Every Extend. Also, for supposedly being more centered around music, the tracks and sound effects I've heard are not nearly as engaging as those found in EE. I tried out the demo released for Extra, and found the object collision and gameplay also feel messier. Perhaps the full version will be better, but I just don't think I would spend $40 on something that I find inferior to the freeware title it was based off. Of course, I don't have any current plans of getting a PSP, so I suppose this isn't really an issue for me. : )

I think I might bite the bullet and buy Rule of Rose this weekend. I didn't want to spend any money or anything, but I really, really want that game. I've also been thinking about buying Lego Star Wars II soon, and I will be getting Pokemon Mysterious Dungeon by October.
