This is somewhat embarassing to ask, but I'm too intrigued not to. One of the banners on this site has a multi-colored robotic-ish character standing in the middle of what seems to be a side-scrolling stage with a really well-drawn explosion to his left. The character is saying "ROAR." Can somebody tell me what game this is and how I can play it?

It would be so awesome if each image had a mouseover* that told you what it was, because I am often left wondering.

so awesome

I've had this too many times to count. Even the image names don't help.

It's impossible. It'd be nice though!

I dunno. I think part of the charm of TGQ banners is that abstractedness of it all, the mystery of not knowing. Like the one I saw just before, the words "waxworks sinatra" appearing as somebody moves their in-game cursor over an object in what was no doubt an adventure/point-and-click game of some description.

That's magic, right there. I don't want to know.

Oh, I feel you. There are a lot that speak so well for themselves that it doesn't matter where they come from. But this thread isn't genera commentaryl. I just want to know about that one banner.

Does anyone know how to unblock this on firefox? It is blocked on my laptop... and I don't know why.

If you desperately have to know (and I know that I have had this urge before), try saving the banner and making a note of the file name. It should be something like "tgq430.jpg".

You can now view any banner you want by surfing to:
http://www.gamersquarter.com/banners/tgq[n].jpg
Where [n] is a number between 1 and the total number of banners.

You can also use this to ask people in the banner thread, "Hey, do you know what this is from?" Then you can link the banner, like this:

And someone will say, "Darkseed."

And holy crap, when I previewed this post, this exact banner came up. Is there code that does that, or is it just freaky?

i find that the banner code tends to do stuff like that. it is usually pretty astute.

I'm actually working on a Greasemonkey script for Firefox / simple website thing that would allow wiki-like annotation of the banners. Just to prove Wes wrong.

Shaper, the latest AdBlock plugin has the option of whitelisting sites. Do that.

I bet you'd have caught on quicker if I'd have decided to use the animated version:

I really need to make some Zany Golf banners, don't I?

It warms my heart that you guys have already identified over 400 banners.

SO AWESOME. For serious.

One wee question--what about banners 495-527? They are not represented in your awesomewidget.

They are not represented in the forums' banner-generating Javascript, either!

The Greasemonkey plugin parses the Javascript and sends the number of banners back to my page. So when the forums update to use the new banners Wes is apparently in the process of uploading, my site will automagically update to accomodate them.
