I'm not sure about the huge bold Gamer's Quarter at the top. I was kinda hoping for something a little more subtle. Something that says, "Jack Thompson is a jackass. Oh, and by the way, this message was brought to you by The Gamer's Quarter." How it is now it kinda looks like we're calling everyone out for not being as 1337 as us.

That said, the design is top-notch. This looks like something that's moments away from being sent to the printer. By the way, the final image should be either 2.13" x 2.75" or 2.75" x 2.75" in 300 dpi and you can send it to superwesATMARKgamersquarter.com

some photographer needs to go around taking pictures of all of these people doing the "che pose." It's really not iconic enough without it. I mean, with miyamoto here you get the reference, but it feels weak because we don't have the "looking, chin up, to the FUTURE OF VIDEOGAMES" pose that it needs.

Do none of you remember when I went around saying that someone needs to make that very shirt? And now someone did!

A friend of mine had a che parody shirt with jesus on it. It was actually the most competent ripoff of the style I've seen yet, which would be cool if it wasn't for all of the retarded ripoffs christian rock bands use for their t-shirts otherwise. I've seen Relient K and Five Iron Frenzy shirts that rip off the Homestar Runner and Grand Theft Auto logo and style, respectively.

Why do I think that no one would remember Che if it wasn't for that picture?

You know, you're anti-che tirades make me sad that I didn't wear my che shirt last time we met. I'd would've been really damn funny.

I'd come into the bar, comment on how stuffy it was, remove my jacket and watch you foam at the mouth.

Don't think that I bought that shirt because I like che, though. I may not like it when people insult Him, though that doesn't imply that he means something to me. My friend Eugene and I just wanted to buy some cheap shirts when we returned to New York. I bought a che shirt while he purchased one with a gigantic hammer and sickle. We then bought red star belts, and mao caps. We changed into all this in alley somewhere in Chinatown and then went to eat Chinese food. It was seriously one of the greatest days of my life.

With all these old skool dictators getting shirts nowadays, I think it's about time someone made a Hitler shirt. Seriously, wearing THAT would be a statement. It would have enough triple crossed irony to shatter starbucks mugs.

I kind of wish I still had my Stalin shirt.

My monocle popped off!

seryogin: that's incredibly juvenile. Also hipster irony can go eat itself. It's not funny. Also, I read "triple crossed irony" as "iron-crossed tripoli." It's cool that Che doesn't mean much to you, but to me that just seems like an excellent reason to not wear a che shirt. Also, also. What's a red star belt look like?

All of my shirts are blank, collarless t-shirts that I cover up with hoodies. I have a nice mustard-colored hoodie I'm especially fond of. Oh, I have a boards of canada tee I screen-printed for a graphic communications class last year, but that's it.

Still! I saw a book of Cuban posters at Barnes and Noble last sunday. Stuff was fantastic; it just felt so tropical. And there was some great examples of modernism stuffed in there, too, which surprised me given the whole isolated state of Cuba.

Um.... what's the news on the stickers, guys?

Oh, and Derek Yu made a pixel portrait of Miyamoto that would have looked excellent blown up on a t-shirt. And more appropriate than a che parody, too.

I'm having a rough time deciding: If I would wear one shirt with a picture of another person on it, who would it be? I'm inclined to say Martin Luther or Martin Luther King, Jr., for some reason. Maybe Beck.

Malcolm McDowell. Alternatively: Matt Frewer.

An explanation: old, white, male B movie actors probably say more about my cultural circumstances than any historical political figure could. Besides which, I think a t-shirt is probably the worst possible place to make a statement. Too much room for misinterpretation and you might as well just wear a sandwhich board.

mussolini shirts are readily available down in little italy, complete with eagles and stick bundles.

now that's fucking weird. it's almost like selling cromwell shirts in boston.

martin luther shirts...hmm...maybe some sort of cute "doornailers union local 1520" underneath?

News on the stickers! They're here! And way too many of them!

I'll send them out to staff and orders along with the magazines (which should be some time next week)!

that working woman shirt is hot, even if gender relations among the bolsheviks were...problematic.

i'm going to update the store sometime soon with images of the new stickers.

Seconded.

Though, I don't know, dess, Kolontai and the Night Witches make the CCCP look pretty progressive for its time.

well, yeah, but lenin and co. did as much as they could to make sure she had as little influence as possible in government. discussing gender inequality within the party was typically discouraged.

Yeah, though that would of course depend on what your definition of communists is.

While the Bolsheviks owe more to their organization and structure to the Russian revolutionary terrorist theorists like Nechaev and Bakunin their theology is certainy Marxist.

it's not stealing an idea or concept, or even parodying it. it's ripped off entirely. I don't really have a position saying it's good or bad, though. I'm wondering exactly who would have the legal right to such a thing. (I have a dim view of copyright and ip in general, so... )

icons are, like, broad concepts.

copyright's a good idea gone wrong, like a cop in a movie about a dude who has to go above the law to get to the seedy underbelly of the big city before it swallows him alive.

you know, antihero type shit.

symbols of solidarity are typically intended to spread (no one person "owns" it). the pitfall is gentrification, of course.

it is very weak magick that withers in the light of day.

edit: but to bring things back full circle, the dude who shot the famous che photo only asserted copyright to prevent some car company (or something like that) from using it in an ad. the original photo isn't that macho, though, compared to variations on that theme later on.
