Sooooo, what did you guys get for Christmas? I ended up doing some hardcore shopping over the last few days here in the USA before heading back to Japan. Bought Jak 3, Ratchet and Clank 2, Killzone, Disgaea (didn't think I would find it for $30), and DBZ Budokai 3. I found most of those for under $15, so I was happy. Should last me a long time. I ended up buying a lot of DVDs too (the sweet, recut Sin City is the highlight . . .). Anyways, did anybody get some cool things they wanted to talk about?

i wish my blood relatives would stop giving me things. trying to argue for my self-sufficiency, after a decade of self-sufficiency, is sufficiently selfish in some way.

Hori, and I don't know because I haven't opened them yet. I think I might give them to my girl.

as dangerous as a turtle shell barrelling at your head at 60mph as you careen around a wickedly tight corner clinging desperately to the tiny piece of vibrating plastic you call a go-kart.

oh yeah. it's dangerous.

- Beer (I'm teetotal)
- Aftershave (I don't shave)
- A t-shirt with "Tao" written on in Chinese (I despise people who parade around with clothes/tattoos/etc they can't read)
- A tankard with a steam train on (huh?)
- Socks (actually useful)
- A Stewart Lee DVD (good)
- Money (going towards an XBox, once I finish my next set of exams)

Edit: I realise this has nothing to do with games, but if it's any consolation my old high school friends have just been round for our annual lan party and we had a great time playing large games of Dawn of War and UT99.

my youngest sister bought me a copy of namco museum volume 1.

oh my goddess. it's ridiculous how much better this collection is than, say, namco museum 50th anniversary for the playstation2. the squarish polygonal museum is one of the most needless and endearing features i've ever seen in a compilation. i can wander it for hours, browsing sprite art and instruction sheets.

the collection contains bosconian, one of my favorite namco games, and i've been using the present as an excuse to play the game obsessively.

Yeah, I rocked Namco Vol. 1 quite frequently while I had it. I used it to achieve my highest score on Galaga (which isn't that high in the scheme of things - it was just my personal best of making it past level 20 or so). I think Galaga is my favorite shooter from that era. Maybe my favorite of all time, actually.

The only games I got for xmas were Metroid Prime Pinball and SotC, both of which I purchased with gift cards. I was going to get Gunstar Super Heroes too, but Best Buy had not a copy left, so it'll have to wait a little longer.

Oh! but I'm getting Guitar Hero in a few days as a joint present from my gf and her sister.

galaga is glorious, but i think my obsession is with galaga 88, which rocks the pc-engine so hard you get afraid it's gonna fall off. but the pc-engine is a sturdy little machine. it won't let you down.

Yeah, I've been look to find a Turbo Duo for a while. I'm willing to pay a price for it, just not absurd one, since I've been tight on cash lately. Actually, you've piqued my interest in Galaga '88 ever since bringing it up on a while back on ic.

I actually did have the opportunity to play Guitar Hero a couple of weeks ago, in 2P mode. It rocked me to hell! Definitely the guitar game for people who are actually familiar with the instrument, unlike Guitar Freaks which brought me to tears.

A digital camera, some Coltrane albums, and a little money. With the money, I ventured out today to pick up Shadow of the Colossus and Animal Crossing. Instead, when I walked into the fresh, new game store which has recently appeared in my hometown ("Rhino Games" - I had never heard of them), I spied this and this, both just sitting there in the "New Games" section. Those are some fair prices for games I had never physically seen before, so you know I didn't pass that up. Fuck the Colossus.

With the remaining money, I went to every single other store in town that sells videogames. Not a single one had a copy of Animal Crossing, so I got FFIV instead. They kept the spoony bard line. I don't like the altered airship view, but man... they kept the spoony bard line. Glory be.

While waiting for some food to rot in MGS3 so I could beat The Fear, I played through Rez. Managed to finally get 100% support items in the last level, without powering up in the other levels first, which I could never do on my (illegitimate) Dreamcast copy. The sticks on this Slime controller are really something.

I also got a nasty cold.

It was a pretty good Christmas.

My fave from the series is Gaplus. I think it's on Volume 3, but I might be mistaken. The best part is the music that plays while you're falling backward and enemies are swarming at you...

I should post pics of my special Namco Museum Binder that came with Encore over in 'treasures of your collection'. Honestly, the PS1 Namco Museum series was probably all that Namco ever really had to release for me to love them forever.

I got Fire Emblem: The Sacred Stones and Bomberman Generations. I think I'm head over heels in love with fire emblem, and bomberman generations is cute, fun, and should be great fun with friends once I head out of the house (the after-christmas lolling around [as an actual word, not as lol-ing] usually lasts a few days in this household). I got copies of REmake and RE:zero on the cheap as christmas presents to myself.

And a couple more art books: modern rock posters and cuban posters. The cuban posters are surprisingly funky for socialist propaganda. Also, my mom picked up that New Yorker cartoon compilation for 2 dollars and thought I might like it. I will, if only in the "laughing politely and rearranging my monocle" sense.

Also, boxers!

I guess I have not posted on this...

I got quite a few things on my own right before the holidays, but as far as for Xmas:

Metal Gear Solid Art Book
Metal Gear Ac!d
M&L: Partners in Time
Fire Emblem (GBA)
FF:IV
1 gig PSP memory stick
EB Games Gift cert for unknown amount

That is everything game related I think. I go some house warming stuff some CDs and DVDs, but not a lot. The stuff I got for myself on friday from the $10 TRU sale is as follows:

GBA:
Boktai 2
Final Fantasy 1&2
Klonoa 2 Dream Champ

Xbox:
SNK vs Capcom Chaos

Gamecube:
Pikmin 2
Viewtiful Joe 2

PS2:
Alien Hominid
Metal Slug 4&5
Romance of the Three Kingdoms X (this is only on my list because of that damn Jiji and his experiments with the series)

I was really happy with the amount of games that the TRUs had, normally with these sales I only get 1 - 3 games off a list or 10, this time I got 9 of 12. I should come back later and list all the DVD's I got with gift cards and what not, perhaps after I get home.

I got mine at http://www.japangamestock.com/ but they don't seem to have any Duos anylonger. They had them at a fair price.

I only got two games-- I bought Genji for my wife, and I was given Shadow of the Colossus (finally).

I may get a few others with the cash/giftcards I got.

Sounds like a wonderful gift. Also, I personally enjoyed Ac!d... it's a satisfying game as long as you have some patience for the weird design choices they made.

Thanks for the link anyway - they do seem to be pretty reasonable. I just scanned eBay for one and it broke my heart until I remembered what site I was on.

Well just remember that if you want you can get bare systems (no cables) and then get all the other stuff from Turbo Zone Direct to save some cash on an ebay purchase (as most people don't want to mess with ordering seperate parts). I will keep you updated if I see any deals as I come across them from time to time.

I got no games or CDs. I'll use my christmas money to buy a DVD burner.

I may join into a cult of PSX "fans" and help create a working PSX super mega torrent. More on that later, and first I need the burner.

In a Secret Santa deal, my friend got me ZATCHBELL ~the Mamudo Battles~ for PS2. My school secret Santa gave me a box of Zorts or whatever the hell those sugar candies shaped like fruit and taste like crap are called. From my family, I received two shirts that are too big for me and a box of chocolate.

Christmas sucks.
You see, I hate candy and anime games. So there!

I happened to be visiting Victoria at the time; good call! Not that there's that many ferries with arcades in Canada (I think).

Not quite the same, but it is still a great hat. I got it when I purchased my Criterion version of the film at a video store. I saw the hats when I got in and demanded to know how I could get one. It was free with purchase.
